At last, a political party for the English people. About time too. Let's hope that this is the beginning of something big, something to equal Playd Cymru (sorry-if I got the spelling wrong) and the SNP.

I can't get the blue clicky thing to work, but there web-site is www.englandsparty.com

Never heard of them...

The site looks reasonable, but do they mean what they say? Or are they actually another thinly-veiled arm of the BNP?

I don't mind the English haveing their own Party, the only difference between the SNP and the Welsh Nationalists are that we accept people for what they are and we don't care where they come from or what language they speak, all we want is the free from Westminster rule and be able to Govern our own countries.
Unlike the English demorcratic party that doesn't want that, or maybe they do I don't know, but as Tracey Dragonsfriend say they sound a wee bit like the BNP.
Because they are after the same thing.

PS

They sound a bit rascist I think.

Or maybe not.

From the election pamphlet I got through the door it sounds like there's been some family quarrel inside the BNP.

Hmmm, does sound suspicious. It's well written, but there does seem to be some sort of subtext, and that is disturbing.

So does anyone here think the English could ever have their own party, representing their own interests, that our fellow Islanders would accept? Or are we forever to be the children of Oliver Cromwell, forever paying for the sins of our fathers?

I suppoert the Scottish National Party, and we would like the English to have their own party but not like this.

I think at the present time we need considerably less patriotism, not more.

Patriotism is best when it is local, not national.

Couldnt agree more, McGrath. The laborious attempts to invent an "Irish folk music", now being mirrored by attempts to figure out what "English folk music" is meant to sound like, is a case in point. They talk differently in Cork and Antrim, and in Cumberland and Kent. Long live regionalism. Though that might be a bit too broad: villagism, perhaps?
Personally, I havent the slightest idea if I am English or not, and I have no particular desire to define myself in those terms.

Scoundrels and jackanapes often invoke ideals under false pretenses. "Love", for example, is probably one of the most abused ideals in the English language. "Patriotism" is another. Both are perfectly fine virtues until someone with an angle gets aholt of 'em and twists them to suit other purposes.
