If I were the owner or rider of one of those horses I wouldn't talk to the sports press before the race or even let them within 100 feet of me--you could hear the pointed questions bringing bad luck to the race. They sucked the good energy right out of that horse and crew. They asked their questions like this was real "news" or something--and felt entitled to ask all sorts of negative "what if" kinds of questions that felt (as I listened) like they were intent on changing the outcome.

But, it was a horserace! There's a reason why other things in life that aren't certain are referred to as "horseraces." Nothing is certain.

So, why is it a sad day for America?

Kendall, I suspect the thread title is a bit of black humor. Everyone who has opened this thread has probably expected it to be about Ronald Reagan.

I didn't think that. The outcome of the race was unexpected, we knew Reagan was 93, suffering from Alzheimers and did not have much time so it can hardly be considered "sad". The loss of the triple crown was sad.

Given that he merely gives samples to a test tube and never gets to do any of the fun part, you may be right.

By Strick - he's still stimulated to orgasm. My guess is that that is pretty good anyhow.

Fellow who's 94 years old goes to a sperm bank. Says he wants to donate. Wide-eyed nurse, not wishing to insult the old boy, gives him the specimen bottle and directs him to a room down the hall.

An hour an twenty-three minutes later, the nurse gets a bit worried that maybe the guy's had a heart attack. She knocks on the door. He opens it. His face is very red, his breathing is laboured, his brow is sweaty, he has tears in his eyes, and his hair and clothing are quite messy. She asks if he is OK. He replies in a trembling voice very close to breaking, "I tried with my left hand, then I tried with my right hand, then I tried with both hands, and I just can't get the lid off the jar!"

LOL, Brucie!

BTW, a report on Smarty Jones I saw on TV last week said something abou him racing for one more year and then moving to his "second career" which would involve "servicing" three mares per day during the mating season. Not too bad a career move, I'd say. ;-D

Hey, who says I ain't a smart horse? Make a name for myself in a couple of races, then a little pasture with the fillies, ya know? No more work for me besides the old you-know-what. And man, did you ever see them fillies they put in with me? WOOOHOOOO!

Strick, I read somewhere that with high dollar horses like Smarty Jones they don't do the artificial insemination. He gets the real thing, because anyone who pays the fees they're gonna charge wants their money's worth.

Horse sense - the sense that horses have that stops them betting on humans.
