Subject: BS: Respite Tavern - Revisted
From: katlaughing
Date: 11 Jun 04 - 01:11 AM

This is a mellow tavern. One of soft lights, cool, smooth drinks, and no televisions or radios, so it is completely devoid of any outside news. It is a place to come away from your cares and concerns. To tune up and tune in with friends in a mellow blend of voices and instruments. The only rules are no political/war debates and no brawling.

Back in ought three that's the way the whole thing started...now, we're putting some dusty roses in the vases, polishing up the mirrors and old, smooth-worn bar to offer another side of Mudcat...the one we've all been to before; the one that seems to get lost in the detritus of a ravaged world. Kinda like forgettin' to go to watch the sunset over the ocean or sit by a quiet running brook in the glade of a forest, or well, you know, darlin'...mellow-yellow, smoooooooth mooves, tender mercies strumming in a slow and haunting melody, THAT part of Mudcat! Nothing from the 3D world coming in 'cept fellow travellers ready for some Peace, Love, and Rest, yeah?!

So here's to a smooth and tasty amaretto sour, a fresh, cool breeze, and the faint strains of soft, tender guitar strummin' fading up...aaaahhhh....won't you join me?

(Same rules apply!)

Oh the relief. Hello there Kat ma darlin. You have done a lovely job with this place as usual. You are the Host of all Hosts.
To escape from the World of whatever and whatever (won't even say those the banned subjects words...sick of it all, need to get away from the repeating, drone)
Ah yes. The Sun is coming in through the open window accompanied by a gentle Breeze. maybe it's time to get the Mandolin out and join the Guitar player. Have to move the sleeping cat though from the Sofa..just a bit over there ma dear as I like you to sit beside me still. There now...sigh...Bliss!
This is one of my favorite places on the Mudcat. A respite indeed.
The long months of friction melt away under the Roof of the Tavern.
Ill sit a while in the hope that some Old Friends who haven't been around and who I miss so, pop in to say hello and maybe share some Music, laughter and Smoothies (Allan is the Smoothie King in my Book).
The Clematis has grown so high and the it's Flowers are peeking in through the Back window.
The Annuals in the Window Boxes are attracting the Humming Bird. Oh I needed this.
..... I know this tune. Margaret's Waltz. Now we're cooking:>)
Talking about cooking...any quick snacks on the go perchance!!

As always I am a bit apprehensive wandering into a new session for the first time , so I find a seat in a corner and start unloading the
various Calton cases (All white Fibre glass - WHAT a Poseur) then quietly get 'em all into Concert pitch . Margarets Waltz ? NIIICCE -
A Bit of whistle I think , and THEN I will see what the beer is like in here .

Quietly. Budget hearings, service level reports, OBE, family problems, house stuff, traffic snarls, personnel issues, building repairs, bodily aches and faults, all flow away and out the drains installed to dispose of such things.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH....

A small single malt, please. Thank you.

That's a lovely tune, Albadarlin'...c'mon Leadfingers, a bit of a whistle and who cares wotcher made of, eh? **bg**

Thanks to you, m'dears, my mind is free and relaxed..floating down the old mill stream, on a lazy, not-so-hazy summer day with my summer love...oh well, better stop with the titled cliches, eh?LOL

Love that amaretto sour, anyone else like something or have a tune for us?

Way Hey. Thanks for the head's up there Passing Cloud. Best go outside so the Bikes don't park on the soft lawn. Nothing for the Stands to go into! Ill direct them round the Back to the Tarmac. See Good Things come to Good People in Good Places!. As a Biker myself they must have got my message that the Tavern was open again..such a neat ride out to here. The Cliffs on one side and nothing but Fields on the other. Looking forward to a few old tunes with the Lads. Maybe later we can take Folks that feel the need for a breeze for a blast along the Coast Road?. Plenty Bikes and Riders by the sounds of it.
Shame you can't stay for a while PC. The Tavern is never a place where the outside world can spoil...only enhance.
The Stones coming in!!! Damn Keith Richards really does look like that way......Guess it must be nice for those Guys to go somewhere and be able to relax.
Youve come to the right place!

The bartender slides Guest 03:52 PM a nice glass of hard cider, with a Mickey Finn, gratis. Guest, anxiously looking around at the unusual mix of people and the preponderance of doors, throws the drink back quickly, looks a little sheepish, lays his head on the bar, and starts to snore. A couple of the regulars gather him up and move him off of the bar. He'll sleep it off and wake up much mellower, and no one will vomit on him over in that corner where the tree usually stands. Just nudge the cat off of the window seat, someone, please, while we move this fellow over out of harms way. . .

I visit regularly, and usually bring smoked salmon. There's not enough if all of those bikers come in--but it looks like they're having second thoughts. Too much clematis climbing on the building, a little too folksie, wayyyy to mellow? (They obviously haven't heard about christmas two years ago!) If MMario comes by he'll have to throw a couple of aurochs on the rotisserie.

Whew! Beautimous Barkeep-ette, put the kettle on, wouldja? Herding them Go-Go Hamsters is a thirsty business.

They are oh-so proud of their new show "Go-Going Gone: A Rodent Retrospective" that they can't wait to shake a tail-nub for y'all. I realize there wasn't any mention of it at the Tonys this year (although I heard a rumor that Hugh Jackman was entertaining the crowd during commercial breaks by singing songs from it) but the hamsters are happy all the same.

While they work the kinks out, I'm gonna take myself a sit-down over here in the bench by the bay window. I can peek through the clematis at the bikers this way!

I don't think I have the strength to hold up my end of the bargain at the kissing booth this go-round, so when I get rested, I'll get a marker and change the sign to a "You Show Me Yours, I'll Show You Mine" surgery scar viewing booth. Vasectomies pay double, lobotomies ride for free. We can at least raise a few bucks to put on Bert's tab, eh?

Well, this is what I had been missing. No evening off since sometime last week. thursday open mike is not optional. I managed to beg off being a church board officer but I still have managed to accept committment to a group with 7 different interpretations of spiritual growth.

Maybe there are a few friendly shades here? Ah, I'll go get THAT one to show me why I can't find all the chords to "Sing a Rainbow."

Barkeep, here is a bottle of cognac, one of Tia Maria, and a quart of heavy cream. Please pour in equal parts over crushed ice and keep 'em coming. I used to pull down   pitchers to earn my way through senior year. er, 35 years ago. Do the taps still work the same?

Plant swap out that side door on the patio -- the one with the vine-covered wooden thingie -- lessee, I've got artemisia, hostas, rooted cuttings from a pink rambler rose, LOTSA blackberry suckers if you wanna start a patch, here's a peony sucker (red), a couple lilac suckers ... who else has garden stuff to swap?

The cat indeed came back!!

After an horrendous week of calling the animal hospital (when I wasn't in the human one myself), and making the decision to let the Amber cat go - quality of life and all that..... I'd broken the news to Limpit and we'd already picked out a replacement kitten.... Amber cat decided that she wasn't ready to go.

She's back home, putting on weight, sleeping, eating, sleeping, washing, napping and doing all those things she used to do, with a new sparkle in her eye. Finally after 4 months and about £500 in vet bills, we've cracked this infection thing. No relapse after a week and she's looking more like her old self.

Respite indeed.

And last night, I was out shopping at a craft store when I bumped into a very dear friend who was at a loose end and we ended up having dinner and going for a very long walk around some lakes. It was a glorious evening, still, fresh and bright. We walked for a couple of miles (something I couldn't do 2 weeks ago!) along overgrown paths, never farther than 8ft from a lake or canal. We saw many heron, geese and goslings, swans and cygnets, 2 pairs of crested grebe, a jay, a pair of terns, bright blue dragonflies, reed warblers, robin, blue and coal tits, and a long tailed tit. But best of all was a flash of electric blue streaking across the lake, that was gone in a split second - only the second time I've ever seen a kingfisher - and all this within 20 mins driving of London!

All it needed was a cool pint of beer in a pub garden to complete the evening. Unfortunately, I had to get home so I've come in here for the cool beer. I am soooo chilled out and relaxed that even the London Underground failing didn't annoy me.

Having my Amber cat at home and happy, and that little flash of blue kingfisher is better than any antidepressant I've taken.

Slide that cool beer down the counter and I'll prop my feet up on this unconscious GUEST.... All I want is a pussycat in my lap and some good listnin' and sippin' music..... Play on, McDuff!

With the Captain out of town, I have the use of his computer and even better his dog Seamus. So Seamus will have a Guinness. (Just don't tell Kendall) and I will have a nicely chilled Pinot Grigio. How about some some soothing music to help pass the time?

Oh a room without boxes... I'm just going to stretch out my legs and forget about the guy who hasn't shown up yet to put down my kitchen floor. So what if my cabinets are in the garage. I've got plants to add to the swap and there's no pesky boarder folks to worry about pests and other such nonsense. No self respecting pest makes it through the tavern doors.
I've got some sorbet peonies and a shell pink to share. oh and if anyone wants Tansy I've got lots to spare. Hosta, Shasta Daisy, Mallow, Iris. And I just put a big bunch of mint behind the bar for drinks. MAG I think I'll take some of the rose clippings for the godess garden.

Now let me tune this guitar and find someone to follow....

You're going to have to sing over the noise of the cats purring in the windowseat. Quite a cat-cophony. Those Shasta daisys look very nice--mine got so wet last week the flowers gave up. I have extra coreopsis if you'd like to step out and take a look at the pots in the back of the pickup. They're right beside the ice chest full of cold Negra Modelo beer. The bartender was out last time I asked, so I brought my own.

Is MMario still knitting? Is he planning to come cook? I couldn't lift something like that auroch by myself even if I wanted, so he'll have to take care of the big stuff.

I beg to differ--I'm sure you CAN get a dink at the Mudcat if you try hard enough. . .

I saw something dragging that velociraptor out of the dumpster, MMario. Looked like a dingo. Maybe came in from the south? I realize it was just a little velociraptor, but I sure hope it WAS dead and not just preserved cryogenically. I think I'll keep my flashlight and ice axe handy when I have to go out to the parking lot, just on general principles.

MMario in the kitchen with a hungry, angry, garbage covered raptor on the loose. Just like that scene in Jurassic Park. This will be a fun evening.

Thank you, SRS. The thread creeper was getting out of hand, there.

I got this Eliza Gilkyson CD which is just wonderful. Am I behind the times in discovering her? The title is

"Land of Milk and Honey," spoke more in sorrow than in sarcasm, about our good old us of a.

ahem! yes maam. any slow reels on the jukebox here? and is this a tempurpedic couch over here?

I DID try to buy one, Amos, really. Way back when there was a thread about it. It is a long unmellow story, involving their jobbing out of delivery and billing. Delivery may be in three weeks. maybe. meanwhile ...

WAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!

The doc put me on beta blockers so no more IV gin!!!

Pour us an ice cold cranberry juice and sling another raptor bum on the grill.....

Hopefully it's only a temporary measure until I get another operation like the last one (then it was jump leads, this time it'll be the soldering iron), which will either kill or cure! Well, not in so many words...... but you get the picture.

Now just put that chill out music away and slip in some Mozart..... bliss.

... duck listens to the tapping noise, strolls to the window and fastens the catch. The tapping discontinues immediately. Strange how your preconceptions colour your interpretation of the world!
As he watches from the wndow, a small velociraptor slowly climbs out of the garbage skip, shakes itself and pauses for a moment to absorb the full rays of the sunlight. It looks around with darting eyes and takes in a vision of wide open spaces. The velociraptor gathers it's vitalty, the muscles on its shoulders bunch together as it prepares to venture forth into the wide blue yonder...
It points it's snout in the direction laid out by the dark grey highway...
It takes a step forward onto the dark tarmac. It leaps into the middle of the road and...
SPLAT -the wheels of one hundred and fifty motorcycles flatten the unsuspecting dinosaur... (get your motor running...head out on the highway..etc...)
Meanwhile back inside the tavern...
Hey - MMario...
Are those Auroch Burgers done yet?
I've finished my bucket of Belgian beeerrr and need something to mop it up with!
I could handle a small velociraptor as long as it stays on the plate. I'm not into "fast food" - you understand! I like mine "well done".
And Liz - I've never tried Gin-Five. sounds like an interesting one...
Quack!
GtD.
