Is it just for the one night 'cos it's the same weekend as Saddleworth and that would mean 'giving up' a whole weekend of singarounds (hopefully) for just the Friday night. Are you doing it again later on in the year as normally I could have made it.

Yo Carol,
Yes, we are planning one night only at the moment to see how it goes. If everyone has a titter we will hopefully do a full weekend in August. The Pub is ideal for it.
So far I know that we have "the harri watts band" and "the Mick Tomlinson Experience" coming from Hull, and hopefully a Harp/uellian pipe duo breezing in from Harrogate. Oh, there will also be a lot of smock clad yokels as well!

What's the weather forecast? Do I need to bring my storm guy ropes and pegs? Do the toilets have wooden seats? What's for breakfast? Are the showers 20p for 15 minutes. Will there be any cow pooh on the grass? Is it flat or hilly? Is there a tree to wee behind? Will we be woken early in the morning by bagpipes as it's near Scotland? Are high heel shoes out of the question? I could go on. So I will!
Will my double sleeping bag be big enough? How friendly are the sheep? Do they sell petrol up there? Should I invest in some new ski's? Can we keep any mushrooms that we find? Will there be any guards on duty? How can it be free?

If you are ever in the area on a Wednesday, Carol, we are always there and you would be welcome. I don't know how far away you are so it's difficult to know if that's feasible.

There is still some (very basic) information about where the pub is on the following : Blacksmiths Arms, Farlington

(I will try and upload a few pix and a bit more information soon in case it's useful. Probably not today as I am in an ongoing-significant-age-birthday crisis today)

Aerial view of the village courtesy of multimap - Aerial view of Farlington

>>What's the weather forecast?

Excellent - sun shines on the righteous

>>Do I need to bring my storm guy ropes and pegs?

It depends if he needs them.

>>Do the toilets have wooden seats?

Mens no, ladies unsure. Soft paper.

>>What's for breakfast?

Make it yourself - Ben reckons he will have a hangover. There is a barbq which could be used. More later.

>>Are the showers 20p for 15 minutes.

Hot water available all time. No shower I am afraid.

>>Will there be any cow pooh on the grass?

Is George Bush a moron?

>>Is it flat or hilly?

See picture. Edge of Howardian Hills. 100 year old badger sett up road (very slow badgers...)

>>Is there a tree to wee behind?

Plenty. Most of us tend to use the toilet though. But then we are just simple Hill Folk happily frolicking on the fields with our flint based weapons and tools etc etc

>>Will we be woken early in the morning by bagpipes as it's near Scotland?

My wife's nephew is a trained piper. For a fee something could be arranged...

>>Are high heel shoes out of the question?

You can wear anything you like. Ted had his painted nails on and still was allowed out.

>>I could go on. So I will!

>>Will my double sleeping bag be big enough? How friendly are the sheep?

Friendly to the point of illegality if you really pushed your luck. (I presume that's why you were querying the sleeping bag size?)

>>Do they sell petrol up there?

You have a car? Haven't seen one of those for many a year. Mostly horse and carts here.

>>Should I invest in some new ski's?

Gold is probably a better bit but you really need advice from a qualified financial consultant. I can put you in touch with one if you want.

>>Can we keep any mushrooms that we find?

Is this a Hull game? Like Hunt the Thimble?

>>Will there be any guards on duty?

Nope.

>>How can it be free?

Cos people are wonderful.

Thanks for the info. - I live at Rawcliffe Bridge, the 'wrong side' of York but could come up for a weekend sometime. I've been told about a 'session' every other Wed. at the George and Dragon, West Haddlesey near Selby and intend to explore there tomorrrow - hopefully to find some singing. also a reminder about Filey Folk Festival on 30 July to 1st Aug - concerts, musicians sessions and most importantly singarounds in the Grapes Pub all weekend!!

Nick you did so well with those other questions.....SO

If you take an Oriental person and spin him around
several times, does he become disoriented?

If people from Poland are called Poles, why
aren't people from Holland called Holes?

If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?

When cheese gets its picture taken, what does it say?

Why isn't the number 11 pronounced onety one?

Last night I played a blank tape at full blast.
The mime next door went nuts, why?

Do people who spend 90p apiece on those little
bottles of Evian water know that spelling it backwards
is Naive?

If 4 out of 5 people SUFFER from diarrhoea...Does
that mean the fifth one enjoys it?

>>If you take an Oriental person and spin him around
several times, does he become disoriented?

No. Disorientated perhaps.

>>If people from Poland are called Poles, why
aren't people from Holland called Holes?

Holles surely? But it doesn't work.

>>If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?

Because lust pinched love's sight

>>When cheese gets its picture taken, what does it say?

Cheeses don't talk. And anyway it's the photographer who asks the question. Presumably if cheeses DID talk they would say what the photographer asked. Ask the photographer

>>Why isn't the number 11 pronounced onety one?

Because 12 is not pronounced onety two. (and 10 is not onety nought)

>>Last night I played a blank tape at full blast.
The mime next door went nuts, why?

Mime people are weird people. (Don't get me started on morris people*)

>>Do people who spend 90p apiece on those little
bottles of Evian water know that spelling it backwards
is Naive?

It backwards is ti - so probably not

>>If 4 out of 5 people SUFFER from diarrhoea...Does
that mean the fifth one enjoys it?

Yes. And I know him. And he does.

(*People who drive morris minors - not those nice dancing people)

Thanks to Ted and Sweetfia for coming along last night and helping me (and Mike) celebrate our birthdays. (And thanks to everyone else who came and made it a memorable evening for me.

Had a really good evening even though I didn't get to bed till 2 so am suffering a touch today.

It augurs well for the 16th when I understand we will see a number of visitors. Bring your tents and campers and come and have fun.

Us regular locals will be there plus I have contacted a few other people who I'm sure will come along and play or get involved. Hopefully we will manage to shoehorn all these people into the limited hours we have (what - 6 or 7? - Ed).

Anyway thanks again to all concerned.

And you sang really well last nice Sweetfia. Lovely. :)

Hope you enjoy the cd by the way - remember to copy/pass it onto sweetfia's friend who I promised it to

Aww, you're making me blush, thanks Nick! Yeah thanks for the CD, it feels weird listening to yourself, but it's really useful.

Neither of them look fifty! For a start Steve "El Ted" Robinson, Nick has all his hair, teeth and is still in shape...which is ALOT more than a can say for you!!!

I'm really looking forward to the 16th now. And i know a few off you have been asking about increasing the time we spend at the Blacksmiths to a weekend...for now we are just keeping it for the night as we a keen to see how it goes. If all does go well i'm sure a weekend visit can be arranged for later on in the summer. Plus, the locals need breaking in...i'm not sure they could handle a bunch of nail vanished drag wearing foreigners for a whole weekend!!

From North Yorkshire weather from the BBC -

"May was warmer, drier and sunnier than normal this year...

Sunny May

Fortunately there were no hurricanes in May, indeed it may surprise you that the month was actually warmer, drier and sunnier than normal.

How could we have a month without breaking a record! In fact this month's accolade goes to Fylingdales, high up on the North York moors, which recorded its highest ever May temperature - 27.8C (82F) on Saturday 31st May.

Temperature 16.8 deg C (average 15.7 deg C)
Rainfall 43mm (Average 56mm)
Sunshine 197hrs (Average 185hrs) "

So that would be about 6 hours a day to take the picture.

How was it done? Well...

We have some swifts nesting just above our bedroom window and have got to know them quite well. It was an easy job to teach them to use the digital camera (one holds it round his neck, one points it, and one pushes the shoot button) and they seemed to reckon it is a reasonable trade for a summer's accommodation.
