Subject: RE: BS: festival withdrawa'l From: greg stephens Date: 07 Sep 04 - 09:31 AM I dont know what that "Eats, shoots and leaves" woman would have made of the apostrophe in the title of this thread. It might have got a whole chapter of it's own in the book. I have, by the way, left a small hostage to fortune in this message. Fesitival addiction, I must say, must be reaching terrifying proportions in the country: with many festivals on evevry weekend, and disposable income reaching such dizzy heights these days (among the folkie clases, at least), it is small wonder that some people are getting a lot more than is good for them. The worrry is that fans from the more financially challenged areas of society will start having to resort to street crime in order to raise the money for Sidmouth, Cambridge, Whitby et al. Where will it end? |

Subject: RE: BS: festival withdrawa'l From: muppett Date: 07 Sep 04 - 09:56 AM Nay greg, Just in case you are not being sacastic, I did all that on a shoe string budget.Went to fringe events at whitby, they were just as good if not better and the other events were free any way and got there and back either on public transport or by lifts off of good mates. I camped & ate fish n chips. My biggest expense was for my booze. As for the apostrophe in the title of the thread Oops my finger slipped. |

Subject: RE: BS: festival withdrawa'l From: greg stephens Date: 07 Sep 04 - 10:03 AM Whitby on a shoestring: I crept into the festival campsite under cover of darkness a good many years bck, hoping to avoid anyone finding out I didnt have a ticket. I pitched the tent in what appeared to be a suitable spot, and went to sleep. To be awoken at some unearthly hour of the morning by someone waking us up and shouting. My God, I thought, it's the festival police police, come to make me buy a ticket. But in fact we had made camp a few yards downhill of the latrines (which were fairly primitive).. Which had unforunately overflowed in the night, as a result of rain and excessive use by loose-bowelled beer fuleed folkies. And a sluggish tide of turds and looroll was just started to lap round our uphill tentpegs. We struck camp in record time. And we never did buy a ticket. |

Subject: RE: BS: festival withdrawa'l From: Paco Rabanne Date: 08 Sep 04 - 06:47 AM I've only been to five festivals this year. I only do the fringe stuff, and we sleep in my beautiful Fiat Scud. If you get it right, it need not be more expensive than staying at home. |

Subject: RE: BS: festival withdrawa'l From: MBSLynne Date: 08 Sep 04 - 07:15 AM The Donisthorpe weekend to which EPN referred was free. We held it for five years but gave up due to venue problems and the fact that the two of us were organising it on our own. I still miss it....perhaps we should revive it? Love Lynne |
