Subject: RE: Folksong about Lindy Lou From: Dale Rose Date: 06 Nov 98 - 12:16 AM Hotmud Family, 1970s. Can't think at the moment where the album is, or what their source was, but maybe this will jog someone else's memory. It was on their Vetco string ragtime album.
I just checked the Levy site, it is there as By The Watermelon Vine, Lindy Lou~~words and music by Thomas S. Allen, 1904. Unfortunately, their copy is damaged and all that remains is the cover and the music for mandolin. I closed this thread in an attempt to avoid splitting the discussion. Please post in one of the related threads listed in the crosslinks toward the top of this page. Thanks. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Folksong about Lindy Lou From: John in Brisbane Date: 05 Nov 98 - 07:00 PM Hi Anon, if we're talking about the same song, I sang it at my school speech night almost exactly 31 years ago. The other song was 'The Road To Mandalay', which is somewhat more memorable. The chorus bits I recall:
Lindy, did you here that mocking bird sing last night,
TGIF
PS I would love the words to Road to Mandalay. It's a great sing if you pretend to be a superb baritone like Peter Dawson (who I think made it best known - and an Aussie). |
