Subject: RE: Misleading signs From: Bat Goddess Date: 26 Oct 04 - 08:48 AM There used to be a wonderful sign in Portsmouth in the parking lot between the "neon Baptist church" and a bank -- the sign had absolutely no punctuation and said -- No Parking Violators Will Be Towed I though it rather nice they wouldn't tow parking violators . . . Subject: RE: Misleading signs From: Liz the Squeak Date: 26 Oct 04 - 07:34 PM On a certain quay in Weymouth, there is a sign that indicates the nearest public toilets. These used to be at the end of the stone jetty, but were washed away many years ago in a terrible storm. The sign is on the wall of the Ladies, and directs Gentlemen to the end of the pier where there is nothing but a good chance of getting very wet! LTS |
Subject: RE: Misleading signs From: GUEST,Hugh Jampton Date: 27 Oct 04 - 11:03 AM A sign in a Daytona park that always puzzles me reads nothing more than "Do Not Throw Stones At This Notice" |
Subject: RE: Misleading signs From: Wolfgang Date: 27 Oct 04 - 11:55 AM And there are many misleading thread titles in Mudcat. This thread title here is an example. Wolfgang |
Subject: RE: Misleading signs From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 27 Oct 04 - 10:43 PM Yes, Aussies fire shotguns at the "Do Not Throw Stones At This Notice" signs... It's called a 'Target' |
Subject: RE: Misleading signs From: emjay Date: 27 Oct 04 - 11:34 PM A local restaurant, (and others) had a sign advertising "Homade Pies." |
Subject: RE: Misleading signs From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 28 Oct 04 - 06:25 AM ... with free Lemade? |
Subject: RE: Misleading signs From: Chris Green Date: 28 Oct 04 - 06:34 AM There used to be a florists up by me that adverstied "calorgas". I spent ages trying to work out what kind of flower a calorga was and then worked out that what they were actually selling was Calor gas. |
Subject: RE: Misleading signs From: MudGuard Date: 28 Oct 04 - 07:03 AM muppitz, I saw an even better version of your "Do not turn upside down". On top of the box it said (translated by me from German): Best used before: see bottom. On the bottom, next to the date, the "Do not turn upside down" ;-) On entering a town in southern France, I saw two signs, pointing in opposite directions: << Toutes directions | Autres directions >> in English that would be: << All directions | Other directions >> |
Subject: RE: Misleading signs From: JennyO Date: 28 Oct 04 - 10:38 AM Then there are the road signs, such as "kangaroos drive slowly" or "wombats drive slowly". Jeeze, I didn't even know they could get a licence! I saw one today on the back of a truck: Tree works above Under that was the brand name of the truck - Abbey So that was even better: Tree works above Abbey I've never seen a tree working. I thought all they did was stand around all day. |
Subject: RE: Misleading signs From: Dave the Gnome Date: 29 Oct 04 - 07:55 AM Photographs do not bend! They bloody well do you know... And I have related before the famous Fleetwood market sign. "Disabled toilets in Bridcage". Never did figure it out. Cheers DtG |
