Subject: RE: BS: Away for a While From: Peace Date: 03 Nov 04 - 03:36 PM I am gonna carry on just the way I always have. Hell, we had this stuff for four years and we're still here. Crazier than outhouse rats, but still here. Maybe now the axe will fall, totalitarianism will emerge, and the gawd-damned Democrats will get their shit together. As Bobert has mentioned so often, maybe the Dems can finally stop kissing up to BIG business and get in touch with what the American people want and need. This is a great opportunity for the Democrats to reorganize. S'about time, IMO. Bruce Murdoch |

Subject: RE: BS: Away for a While From: DougR Date: 03 Nov 04 - 04:14 PM brucie: why are you so convinced that the people are not getting what they want? Not everbody, of course, and certainly not you, but the majority seem pretty pleased with the outcome of the election. DougR |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Away for a While From: katlaughing Date: 03 Nov 04 - 04:25 PM Not much of a majority, Doug, what maybe 2-3 percentage points? Our country is very divided. Bush'd better not think he has most fo the country behind the smug smirk of his. |

Subject: RE: BS: Away for a While From: Peace Date: 03 Nov 04 - 04:53 PM Doug, I live in a democracy where 50% plus one means neither party really 'wins'. NO, let me rephrase that: . . . where 50% plus one means a party won, but the people lost. I am not about to slam America because of who got elected. I make no bones about despising your President. I also make no bones about saying that Canadians ain't all that much smarter than Yanks. I do think you have a serious split in your country, and I hope you find a way to heal that division. I am not of the opinion that Kerry could have done any better than Dubya. But as someone said above, ball's in your court, and how the post-election years are handled will permanently affect the course your country takes and the 'friends' it keeps or loses around the world. I hope y'all are up to it. I don't really think your President is. Hell of a note when someone as dimwitted as him leads the greatest country on Earth. Helluva note. |

Subject: RE: BS: Away for a While From: PoppaGator Date: 03 Nov 04 - 05:03 PM It's a pretty small majority, DougR -- but I'll grant you this: at least Bush got the most votes this time. As you may recall, Gore won the popular vote last time, but Bush got appointed, er, elected President. I'd be willing to bet that plenty of those who voted for BOTH candidates felt ambivalent, less than enthuiastic abut having to choose the "lesser of two evils." Amos, I hope your hiatus isn't prompted by the election outcome. I ain't real happy about it, either, but I'm used to being on the losing side and I feel confident that life as we know it will continue. At my age, I've got it worked out that MOST of my life is unaffected by the politicians, almost all the time. |

Subject: RE: BS: Away for a While From: Wolfgang Date: 04 Nov 04 - 10:10 AM I repeat here what I have posted on another thread as one of my post election wishes: I hope that some posters who seem to have come here only for the election debates (of the lowest level) either show also up in the music threads or disappear. (And who was the first to declare a temporary absence after the election? Amos. Some evil force must have seriously misunderstood this hope) Wolfgang |

Subject: RE: BS: Away for a While From: Rapparee Date: 04 Nov 04 - 10:19 AM I have assurances that Amos shall return. He will stride ashore, his pants wet to the knees, corncob pipe in mouth and his gimme cap cocked at a jaunty angle, whistling the theme from "Welcome Back, Kotter." I know this because I saw it in a dream last night after scrying for three hours straight in bottles of "Dead Man's Ale." (I also learnt that it's best not to scry over spilt beer.) |

Subject: RE: BS: Away for a While From: Dave the Gnome Date: 04 Nov 04 - 11:58 AM At the risk of repeating myself (coz I just typed this and lost it I think...) There used to be an Amos on UK soap 'Emmerdale Farm'. He was a crotchety Yorkshire pub landlord with huge sideburns. Is our Amos anything like that? I stopped watching Emmerdale when a plane fell on the village and things started getting even sillier than they were. So I dunno if that Amos is still about. Hope a plane doesn't fall on Mudcat. I'd like to see if this Amos gets back... :D |

Subject: RE: BS: Away for a While From: GUEST Date: 04 Nov 04 - 12:22 PM Wolfgang, is someone holding a gun to your head, making you read what you find to be most distasteful in the BS section (ie the US election, etc etc)? I thought not. You too, Wolfgang, could give it a rest. Take some time off... |

Subject: RE: BS: Away for a While From: Big Mick Date: 04 Nov 04 - 01:05 PM Oh, that's right. You are the one that wanted the sniping and meanness to stop. Sometimes it is hard to remember that. Hurry back, Amos. Mick |

Subject: RE: BS: Away for a While From: DougR Date: 05 Nov 04 - 01:07 PM PoppaGator: This morning it was announced that Bush officially won the state of Iowa. The gap keeps getting wider, and the country will survive. I wouldn't be too surprised to see the leaders of France and Germany offer a helping in hand in Iraq too. Perhaps not soldiers to fight, but perhaps train Iraqis, humanitarian work, etc. DougR |

Subject: RE: BS: Away for a While From: catspaw49 Date: 05 Nov 04 - 01:24 PM Tell ya' what Amos.......Whatever prompted your decision, it was a good prompt. Being around here a long time and then taking leave of the joint for awhile is healthy. I spend a bit of time each week, often each day, checking the threads but after a little respite I have found that most of the music/instrument stuff is less entertaining and often rehashed with little attention paid to great threads already existent. The BS has become political drivel, mostly unoriginal, and almost always with a bitter edge. It's still a great place but lessened for a lot of reasons well beyond my control. I enjoy the occasional post and often an evening spent making a few jokes......although those type of BS threads are more rare now and the ability to laugh around here has reached pathetic on the meter. Like Wolfgang, I hope things change after this election wrap-up. Looking up at the small possum sitting above my computer, I know his days are finished here but I hope at least a bit of that level of lightness will reinvade the village!!! Spaw |
