Subject: Lyr Req: Reaching Out - Steve Tilston From: Nick Date: 05 Nov 04 - 06:38 AM Does anyone have the lyrics to this? I heard it last night when I went to see Grace Notes in York (who were absolutely wonderful) and worked out the tune when I got home but I can't remember any but a few words. Thanks |
Subject: Lyr Add: REACHING OUT (Steve Tilston) From: MoorleyMan Date: 05 Nov 04 - 09:10 AM Here you go Nick: Reaching Out (Steve Tilston) On a page in a forgotten photograph there she lays A ship to take me far from my failures to other days Anchored to the time, but lost in a passing rhyme, I'm reaching out, reaching out Like a ship I'm confined to the sand, to the harbour sound Gulls scream as they follow the mackerel boats on their rounds Go, gulls, and spread your wings, for my mind is on finer things – I'm reaching out, reaching out And maybe if I sing, then the wind will rise, And, taken from the tide, a thousand sights will reach my eyes All that's left is cider with orange and seaflowers Where I have tried in vain to regain those finer hours Once held so easy in my hand, once held at my command – I'm reaching out, reaching out (Taken straight from the booklet of her CD Reaching Out, of which Maggie Boyle still has the last few remaining copies for sale I believe, if you're interested!) Congrats on working out the tune on just the one hearing - it's not an easy one to get to grips with. But hey, wasn't it a wonderful gig? Grace Notes just have to be one of the most magic live acts on the scene (imho)and worth traveling the distance for.. |
Subject: Chords Add: REACHING OUT (Steve Tilston) From: Nick Date: 05 Nov 04 - 10:07 AM Thank you very much, most appreciated. I will have to get a copy of it as I can't remember how the tune of the following bit goes - "And maybe if I sing, then the wind will rise, And, taken from the tide, a thousand sights will reach my eyes" The verse is on the web site so it was more than one listen - and I might not have it right :) !! I make it something like Emaj7 A7sus4 A7 /Emaj7 A7sus4 A7 /B A /B A / Cm7 B B7 Emaj7 which I think approximates it. It was a WONDERFUL gig. I was bowled over by the harmonies, the mix of voices, and the ranges of their voices and how good they sound whether singing at the low end or high end. We will definitely hunt them out and go and see them again. |
