Steve has been my number one singer, songwriter, guitarist hero for years. Last weekend I went to see Martha and him gigging in Birmingham. WOW!!! If you get the chance see her, if you don't, buy a CD - she is a real talent in my opinion, particularly her writing. Glad she's got recognition with a nomination in the Open and Fair awards.

I've always been a Steve Tilston fan, but I keep meaning to check out Martha. She sounds good from what people tell me.

Hi -
I heard Steve at Whitby and I have a couple of his CD's, but I know nothing of Martha. How is Martha related to him? How would you describe her style?
Thanks.

She's his daughter, Joe.

If you go to the link above and navigate to her album, you can download it for free, as Chas said above. Many thanks for pointing it out, Chas. Free is my kind of price (but how/why do they do it?)

As for her style, I've just started listening to it now, so it's too early to say, Joe. But she has a pleasant voice. Not sure who she reminds me of, but it might come to me later... maybe there's a little bit of Laura Nyro in there somewhere, on the first track at least (or am I way off beam guys?)

I suggest you download it soon, though, because the free offer is for a limited time only, according to the WWW site.

She has a pleasant, strong voice - not sure who I would compare it to. What I appreciated most was her writing. It felt fresh and original - the sort of stuff which, if I saw it on the page I may be unsure of, but when performed just hung together really well. Varied subject matter, melodies and meters, and a great personality (which came across really well in a small, intimate setting) kept me interested for the whole of her set.

When she and Steve sang together it worked better when he sung the line and she harmonised than the other way round.

Lovely evening though.

I dawdled while I was posting. The two links from Fidjit weren't there when I started typing my post. Thanks, Fidjit, Scrump, and Trevor. I'll have to give a listen. Wish I had braodband instead of a dialup connection.
