Subject: BS: 2nd Term, Scandals and more Scandals...
From: Bobert

Well, for those of you who may have forgotten because the lenghty presidental campaign was unusually long and pushed back the snadalous first trm of George W., there are quite a few scandals that will be back into the news cycles.

Like Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagna, 2nd terms are for scandals and, in spite of every effort of Karl Rove, these won't just go away.

I don't have a particular favorite as to which one is going to do the most damage because I'm not too sure just who is ging to get caught telling the bigest lie but here is the list. Looks more like a horserace to me.

1. Leak-gate, where 2 senior adminstration officials fingered CIA operative, Valeria Plame to a Robert Novik in retaliation for her husband telling the world that the "mushroom cloud" scare was a lie.

2. Halliburton-Gate I, where the SEC is probing $180M in bribes by Halliburton to Nigerian officials over a gas plant from 1995-2002. (Dick Cheney was CEO from 1995-2000).

3. Halliburton-Gate II, where the FBI is probing contract irregulatities in Iraq and Kuwait contracts.

4. Halliburton-Gate III, where the Justice Department is probing on whether operations in Iran by a subsiderary gviolated US sanctions.

5. Spy-Gate, where the FBI is probing a high level Pentagon offical, Lawrence A. Franklin, for passing classified information to Isreal about Iran

6. Chalabi-gate, where the FBI is probing classified information that was provided to Ahmed Chalibi that he passed to Iran. (And I'd persoanlly like to know why the US threw millions of our tax dollars to this crook...)

7. WMD-Gate, with the Senate Intellegence Comitte probing into jusyt why no WMD's were found in Iraq.

8. Nuke-Gate, where the FBI is probinto just how the administartion came upon and used forged documents to make a case that Iraq was trying to purchase uranium from Nigeria.

9. Abu Ghraib-Gate, where thre US military was caught red heanded violating international law in the treatment of prisoners and to date no one higher than rank of Sgt. has been charges with any wrong doing.

10. Guantanemo Bay-Gate where the Bush administartion and the US military are in violation of federal court orders to allow prisoners access to lawyers.

Yep, I hate to bring this stuff up but, like I said, these things aren't going to go away by bashing gay marriage.

Yep, looks like a horse race... If I had to handicap it I'd say that Leak-Gate looks purdy strong in a strong field...

What's yer favorite (for lack of a better term)?

Bobert

Bobert, Bobert, Bobert....

You don't really think anyone's going to get all het up over any of those potentially scandalous issues, do you? C'mon, those are important issues with genuine national and international consequences and repurcussions. To really have a scandal there's gotta be a blowjob involved! And Bush obviously hasn't had a blowjob in years so there's no chance of serious investigation, hearings or impeachment procedings.

Remember: The Resident can screw the American public all he wants with no consequences. It's only when he screws an intern in a blue dress that the shit hits the fan.

"8. Nuke-Gate, where the FBI is probinto just how the administartion came upon and used forged documents to make a case that Iraq was trying to purchase uranium from Nigeria."

This is my pick, Bobert. All the rest have money involved--well, most of the rest, and money doesn't speak, it swears (to quote Dylan). Bee-dubya-ell has the tense wrong to do with blowjob--it should be blownjob, and most anything to do with thsi administration, Cheney, and the crew has been a total fu#kup that has cost lives. "Lives for oil." Guess "guns for oil" wasn't good enough.

You seem to have done your homework on this. By comparison, a little dribble on Monica's dress seems quite 'nothing' by comparison. However, will the American people care? After all, to most of them, it's not their own sons and daughters paying the price. It's someone else's kid. Makes one proud to have companies like Halliburton around and people like Dick so snug and cozy with it, huh? Anyway, that's my vote. Why?

Because the rest is normal in Washington. However, usually when the security services of the USA forge documents, they do a better job. Mostly, I'm curious. I am gonna love the 'fairytale ending', and Washington always provides one.

Anyway, we're too busy worrying about what the jury's up to in the Lacy Peterson case to really care about all of that other stuff. I heard one of the jurors got kicked off the jury today.

Then there are the ones that have not yet crystallized but seem pretty likely. One is Diebold Gate, in which a Republican crony owns the company that sells the voting machines whihc they won't let anyone audit.

Another one is EnergyGate in which probably profiteering asshole-buddies like the Enron crew drove California;'s state budget deeply into the red by gouging under the protection of the Vp and a few closely chosen pals.

Then there's UN-Gate in which for motives not yet exposed fully to the light of day, the major institutions of planetary peace (the U.N. being one, and the U.S. Constitution being the second) BOTH get dumpstered in four short years of high-speed thuggery.

There is also 1K-Gate in which 1,000 brave American youngsters, doing their best for God and country, get sent into the jaws of death in a war that has no foundation, has no end point, and are sacrificed on the altar of our space cadet leader's self-indulgent "intuition".

And the small matter of 100,000 Iraqi lives, give or take a few hundred, needlessly spilled out on the Mesopotamian sands. Murder, high or low, is as unlovely as it can get. Cars full of women shredded with high-powered bullets like so many ground squirrels, children pulped and SHock and Awe unleashed upon peaceful citizens whose crime was seeking a path to survival.

Finally there is what the Nuremberg Trial judge called the worst of international crimes -- the crime of committing a war of aggression. War of aggression is the first offense listed in the Nuremberg Charter as a Crime against Peace. The Nuremberg Tribunal after hearing evidence of Nazi crimes in World War II convicted the leaders of waging wars of aggression, which it called "the supreme international crime."

At Nuremberg, the Chief U.S. Prosecutor, Robert H. Jackson, promised posterity that in the future all nations, including our own, would be held accountable for such crimes.

Bobert

You really need to get a life.

Laying awake at night dreaming up ways this president who got more votes than anyone in recent history is going to be scandalized really shows you have way to much time on your hands.

Why not consider channeling all of that energy towards something that will give your life some real meaning?

I guarantee you that he will not be running for a third term.

I wonder what the Constitution says on that? Does anyone know? Since Bush was not elected the first time in 2000, will he be eligible for a third term? That is, would he be constitutionally allowed to run?

This is from the new Bernstein biography of Thomas Jefferson. It is part of
a letter he sent in 1798 after the passage of the Sedition Act:

"A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over, their
spells dissolve, and the people, recovering their true sight, restore their
government to it's true principles. It is true that in the meantime we are
suffering deeply in spirit, and incurring the horrors of a war and long
oppressions of enormous public debt......If the game runs sometimes against
us at home we must have patience till luck turns, and then we shall have an
opportunity of winning back the principles we have lost, for this is a game
where principles are at stake."

And take the time to look through this video essay on the nature of electronic democracy entrusted to people who don't understand system engineering.

Well, I think it's just fine and dandy if those people in Washington want to wear sandals. I ask you, what could it possibly hurt? Jesus wore sandals. Mohammed wore sandals. And if sandals were good enough for them they're surely good enough for George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. Just as long as they wash their feet at least once a day and keep their toenails clean and nicely trimmed.

And they really shouldn't wear socks with those sandals. If they do, people might think they're folk musicians and try to make them sing "Michael, Row the Boat Ashore".

Thank you,

Miss Emily Latella

Hate to tell ya', Misss Emily Mame, but ahhh, I din't mention all the scandals when I strated this thread. The ones I put up there were just the Top Ten.

The "sandal scandal" is ranked #58 so you'll just have to saty tuned, be patient, and remember, you didn't hear anything from me... I gotta protect my sources, you know...

Heck of a post, Amos. You know with the one with the Tom Jefferson post. Mind if I use it in public?

If Tom Jefferson were alive today, he'd prolly be in jail....

If Tom Jefferson were alive today he'd be dead. Someone connected to the Oval Office would see to that.

Sigh.
