Subject: BS: Marriage From: MBSLynne Date: 15 Nov 04 - 05:55 AM I have just been reading Jimmy T's thread about his 35th wedding anniversary and wondering, in these days of frequent partner-changes, how many people have actually managed to stay the course with their original partner. So...who is still on their first marriage, and how long has it been? I'm on my second.....10 years, though we were together for five years before we got married and already had a four year old son. My first only lasted eight months. Love Lynne |

Subject: RE: BS: Marriage From: Dave the Gnome Date: 15 Nov 04 - 09:51 AM First for both of us (Should be, I was 20 and Mrs was 19!) - 31 years now! Mainly good times. Some better that others:-D A recent survey (where do they get them???) showed, apparantly, that any couple who are unhappy at any point in their marriage but stick it out will become happier than those who reckon it's all wine and roses! Go for the rows and sulks, then get over it! You will last a lifetime then:-) Cheers Dave the Gnome |

Subject: RE: BS: Marriage From: jonm Date: 15 Nov 04 - 11:40 AM Ten years. First time around. I'm one of the younger 'catters, from the survey a couple of weeks back. When your wife is your best friend and your chosen partner for everything - conversation, dancing, music etc. - and when your mutual admiration is such that arguments and disagreements enable you to learn more about the other and strengthen the relationship, you are guaranteed never to be invited on Oprah. She has recently started working where I am, which gives us opportunity for a chat at lunchtime and to actually take a break instead of working through. Nice to relax and talk without the kids for half an hour! The fact that some people I work with think we're having an affair says a lot about us, I guess. |
Subject: RE: BS: Marriage From: GUEST,Chief Chaos Date: 15 Nov 04 - 11:45 AM Married for 16 years now, both of us our first. "Marriage is a great institution, but who wants to be institutionalized?" |

Subject: RE: BS: Marriage From: Bill D Date: 15 Nov 04 - 12:30 PM tried at age 19...lasted 4+ years...ah, youth! tried at age 26...lasted 11+ years...lots of good and too much bad. got it right at age 42....going on 24 years now and those early 'lives' are more like strange dreams I sort of remember, but I'm not sure that was me in them... |
Subject: RE: BS: Marriage From: jimmyt Date: 15 Nov 04 - 12:42 PM Thanks for the kind words Lynne. 35 today! It helps if you are also best friends, which we are. A good foundation is valuable when rocky times come which they probably do to every couple. Just as I have always been envious of people who always knew what they were going to do with their lives at an early age, I am also appreciative of being one of the lucky ones who has been blessed with a great companion and best friend, who is also my wife. Many people question her mental condition for hanging out with me, and also suggest that she is certainly eligible for sainthood. |
Subject: RE: BS: Marriage From: Janie Date: 15 Nov 04 - 12:49 PM Yeh, first and only. |
Subject: RE: BS: Marriage From: Scooby Doo Date: 15 Nov 04 - 12:57 PM Even though i am divorced we are closer now than we were when we were married for those 21 year.I think marriage can often put a strain on the relationship and its make or break . |
Subject: RE: BS: Marriage From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 15 Nov 04 - 01:06 PM My Beautiful Wife had been married previously, for seven years. I was thirty-three, and had been actively looking for a wife since I was twenty-five. The girls who interested me were either already taken or weren't interested in me. Dorris and I met on July 16, 1963, and on Labor Day she agreed to marry ne. We got married on December 21, 1963. Longest night of the year; we were no fools! We've been ecstatically married for nearly forty-one years now. I told her when we got married that I'd give her seventy years to straighten herself out, and if she hadn't done that in seventy years, out she'd go! Looks like she might make it, too! Subject: RE: BS: Marriage From: Wesley S Date: 15 Nov 04 - 01:06 PM Eight years and 2 weeks. My first and only. |
Subject: RE: BS: Marriage From: Tannywheeler Date: 15 Nov 04 - 01:13 PM Married in early Aug., 1966. Still married to same man. We've surprised alot of our relates. As I've learned, in bits and pieces, some family history of each of us I've seen at least 2 other scenarios which, if either had continued its play, would have brought us together almost 10 yrs. earlier than we actually met (which was in college). We might have done jr-hi & high school together, too. Even when we are not in perfect agreement I don't waste time fantasizing about divorce-leaving. I figure I couldn't manage a life that doesn't include Bob. That keeps me in line for the times I'm falling on my knees to thank God for putting Bob in my life -- not believing how lucky I am to know him. (3 kids, 4 grandkids -- how could I leave that!!??) Subject: RE: BS: Marriage From: frogprince Date: 15 Nov 04 - 01:47 PM Managed to stay single for almost 42 years, but still got hooked. We're at about 20.9 years now. I have no intention of letting this gal get away, so unless I finally aggrevate her until she actually has to kill me, we're in it for keeps. I write 'em, she sings 'em. |
Subject: RE: BS: Marriage From: SINSULL Date: 15 Nov 04 - 02:00 PM Always a bridesmaid, never a bride. Almost a few times, but they always wanted me to change - "once we're married you will have to stop..." Like that was going to happen. I envy the ones who manage to make it work and pity the ones who didn't know they were happier single. SINS |
