I really dislike it when Ive just ranted and raved to someone about something, to find they are amongst the group of people Ive just ranted about ...Example, Yesterday at work, I ranted on about a house near me having Christmas decorations up already, saying how sad it is,only to find the person I was ranting to, had her entire house decorated, and had done since 2nd week of November, why didnt she stop me mid flow to tell me this???why wait til Im exhausted with talking before she says something, I dont think she likes me much now :(

'one more small addition, when a customer says, "Thank you", upon the completion of a transaction, the standard reply from a sales clerk will now be, "You're welcome", instead of "Uh huh."'

Metchosin posted this on another thread, but it is something I want--no, need--to rant about. It really pisses me off when salespeople say, "No problem" after I say thank you. Like, I do NOT give a shit if it was a problem. It is your friggin' job. Don't f##kin' tell me it's NO PROBLEM like I give a rat's ass.

I also don't like arseholes who dial a wrong number, wake people up, and don't excuse themselves. Bas##rds!

Thank you.

Even worse are the people who dial a wrong number, wake people up, and then swear at the person they just woke up because THEY dialed a wrong number! Those idiots should have their own phone rammed up their ass.

And I agree about the "no problem" response. It's stupid. Why would there be a problem anyway?

I dislike telesales people who won't stop talking when you say you don't want to buy XYZ.
But as I don't really hate them I put the phone down in front of the speakers, and let them listen to whatever folk CD happens to be on...
And I get annoyed at people talking on a subject, whilst assuming prior knowledge of vital facts, realising you don't know said facts, and then saying " I thought you knew that" and still not expaining it.

And to those people who complain about gas prices. Come to Britan, $6 a gallon, learn to hate!

I hate reality TV. The new series of "I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here" has just started and I found myself reaching for my DVD of Apocalypse Now, fast forwarding to the bit where the planes napalm the rainforest and imagining they were all in it.

I have no problem with people saying "no problem."

While it may not be the most elegant use of language, these underpaid sales clerks just trying to accept thanks in a self-effacing colloquial manner. They may not be all that bright or well-spoken, but they're harmless at worst.

That stupid so-called "reality" television is a discouraging trend, I agree, but I avoid losing my temper over it by just not watching any, ever. There's always a half-decent old movie on TCM, if nothing else, plus of course radio and CDs.

Those telemarketer phone calls, though! #*#&$@#%&(^#*^$#$$!!!!

I hate Spam emails. I hate that Spam emails apparently cannot be outlawed because it might impinge on the sender's freedom of speech, even though they invade my privacy and hog my mailbox space.

I hate Styrofoam packing peanuts.

I hate cherubs. Again, I'm not sure why but I've always found them revolting.

I hate it when people don't take care of their animals. I hate it when my bosses don't stand up for their employees when clients are rude because "people get emotional about their pets--don't take it personally". Even if it's not personal, I shouldn't be the whipping girl for every person who thinks their pet should be fixed at bargain price and with no inconvenience to themselves.

I hate it that little girls' activewear these days always has something slightly suggestive printed across the seat. I'm well into my 20's and my mother wouldn't let me out the door with "Brat" or "Angel" or "Sweet" or whatever stamped on my butt.

Hmmm. That's an interesting problem, freda. Is he very, very serene or is he just good at controlling his outer reactions to things?

I don't lose my cool easily either, but that doesn't mean I'm not bouncing around on the inside, often as not. I almost never get outwardly angry at people. Annoyed, perhaps, but not angry. They have to really work at it to elicit outright anger from me.

I'm also the farthest thing from an "angry drunk". The only effect alcohol has ever had on me was:

1. I get more relaxed than usual
2. I get more easily amused by things and laugh more
3. I get quite jolly
4. I get kind of sleepy
5. I then stop drinking...having suffered no real damage whatsoever from the rather minimal amount of alcohol I've consumed.

That's it.    :-)

Little Hawk - we have a little thing here where you can dial a code and get the number of the last person to ring you.. When we get rude people with wrong numbers, I just get the number, wait 30 mins and then phone them back.

I had one bloke late one night (well, early next morning really) insist that I was his cousin Dave and should come and pick him up. I asked him where he was and told him it would take about 6 months and 4 hours. 4 hours to drive to York, where he was, and the other 6 months to learn now to drive first!

I have a little 'rantette' that I launch into now... when I pick up the phone and there is a delay in them answering my 'hello', I know it's a telemarketer. The delay is the satelite linkup to Mumbay or wherever... I just say 'I have double glazing, I don't want a mortgage or a loan, we don't need a new kitchen, or to change our phone/utilities tarif. Did I miss anything?' They get very confused then and say sorry!

Story I heard years back. Neighbour told me he got a call one morning--near three AM--and the fellow said words to the effect of "Will you shut you're fu#kin' dog the h#ll up. I am trying to sleep you SOB." Whereupon the phone was slammed down. My buddy woke up at 3:00 AM the next morning and called the angry neighbour. When the neighbour answered, he calmly said, "I don't own a dog." He cradled the phone gently.

Bill, don't get me started on highway signs; I swear sometimes that no one with detectable brain waves is allowed to arrange road signs.
Ever drive Through Boston on the Interstate? At least as many lanes as I've ever seen anywhere; every single ###%$$$^*&&&@ lane marked as the lane to a given exit in Boston; not one *&^%$# lane marked as a lane to stay in to go on through town. Strokes of genius like that all over the country...

Okay, the guy at the register tells me $59.60 and in my head I'm thinking, that's too much, but I give him three twenties, in cash, and he hands me 40 cents and my receipt. I look at the receipt and see that he's charged me twice for one fifteen dollar item. I show him the receipt - I have not even moved my feet one inch, mind you - and point out the overcharge. Without saying a word, he starts punching numbers on his cash register, and then says to me, "I need to see your drivers license." I say, "What for?" He says "I can't refund your money unless I see an ID." I hand him my ID, he looks at it, and hands it back to me. All this is without looking at me, mind you. Then he hands me the money.

It wasn't the sullenness which bothered me - it was having to provide identification. Pure and utter rubbish. I paid in cash, and never left the store. What the hell was the ID for?

Absolutely infuriating.

The I.D. was so that he could cover his own ass from the tyrannical idiots who employ him and demand such documentation, I suspect! Have pity on these poor sods who work retail counters. I have had such jobs, and it's amazing what one has to put up with sometimes from the buying public. The worst part is people's bloody-minded impatience. They're all in a perishing hurry...but they have no idea why or for what! When they finally get to wherever they're hurrying to, nothing has changed. :-)

Regarding jerks who swear at you at 3 AM when they have dialed your number in error...I had a friend whose phone number was one digit different from a local pizza delivery outfit. He would get several calls a week or even several a night on Fridays and Saturdays, various drunken yahoos ordering an after-midnight pizza, and they would swear at him upon finding out they had a wrong number! Well, after a few weeks of it he started fighting back. He would pretend to BE the pizza place, and take their order, advising them of all the possible toppings and combinations. He would then say, "Thank you sir! And if it's not there in 15 minutes or less, call us back and...you will get a supersized FREE PIZZA delivered with our apologies and a FREE movie pass for two at the local cinema of your choice!!!"

This no doubt led to some highly amusing and rankerous conversations between the aforesaid drunken yahoos and the real pizza place! Not one of them ever succeeded in dialing my friend's number twice in a row, but if they had I'm sure he would have worked up another trick to play on them. He was like that.

He once left a 3-minute recording of "Bird Is The Word" on my voice mail. Very annoying!

I hate it when a sales clerk or receptionist leaves me to answer the phone and then deals with the person on the phone while I am, standing around waiting. Most of them are decent and smart and will ask the person on the phone to wait while they deal with the customer in front of them, but every now and then...

"Hey, tell the one on the phone to wait! I actually got up off my arse to come down here!"

Yes, that is a real pain! Learning to ignore a ringing telephone is one of the key steps to personal freedom and liberation as far as I'm concerned, and I very much doubt that I will ever own a cellphone.

I also detest the concept of call waiting. It's very rude and essentially pointless most of the time.

Highly forwardable, Cluin! (Should that be a new 'Net acronym: HF?)

Here's a driving-(2 hours)-to-the-gig-having-started-an-hour-later-than-intended, and driving-home-from-the-gig-in-the-wee-hours rant:

If you're not passing anyone and going at or below the speed limit, get out of the frigging left lane!!! If you're not awake enough to maintain a consistent speed, get off the frigging road!!! Buy a car with cruise control!!! No, wait, you're driving a $30K frigging Toyota Sequoia, what's the matter? You think cruise control will let you fall asleep, so you're going to go down the highway varying your speed by 20 miles per hour, accelerating if I try to pass you, decelerating after you pass me?? Get off the frigging road and take a nap!!! (Oh, and thanks, you did actually help me keep awake by making me nervous about what the hell you were going to do next.)

Whew. Thanks for the opportunity. Should I have posted this to the F-word thread instead?

Then there are people like my dad who drove at 45mph, in the middle lane, regardless of traffic buildup, present speed limitations and frustrated yells from people overtaking him on pushbikes.

I had a girlfriend who always drove at 50 mph! Always. In town, on the highway, anywhere. In town she was terrifying. On the highway she was aggravating (specially to truckers stuck behind her on 2 lane roads).

She got in a fight with me one day about MY driving, saying, "You obey traffic signs!" Well, yeah! I figure they were put there for a good reason. To save lives.

She was a total nutbar. I thank God she is somewhere else right now, and not here with me.

Buncha great examples there, Bobert!

TV...the ugly little hpnotist that sits in your living room saying, "Give up all thoughts of doing anything real with your time. Surrender your creative gifts and your imagination to my programming. Forget about health and exercise. Turn me on. Tune in and drop out. Buy, buy, buy...all the crap that I tell you to buy. Let me lobotomize your kids into being good little consumers. Let me tell them what to eat and what they want for Christmas. Believe all the lies I program you with dialy. Cease living, except through me. I will turn you slowly into oatmeal. Resistance is futile, futile, futile....."

Kill it, man. Gut the idiot box with an ax and turn it into a fish tank. Your brain and heart will thank you one day, and so will the fish.

I absolutely hate that I think I am ready to handle things that I am in no way shape or form even close to being ready to handle. I started to clean out Veronica's room tonight...started to pack up a box or two of her all time favorite toys. She's been gone now for 3 months and I thought I could start to clean out that room....to make it usable...to make it part of our home again. Who the fuck was I kidding?   :( I hate that.

Somebody give me the home address of any @#$%&* who writes a radio ad that hits you cold, as you're driving in heavy traffic, with the sound of a blaring horn, or, my very favorite, the sudden sound of screaming brakes. I'll collect every pair of drawers that they've caused people to s**t from fear in, and stuff them down their f***ing throat. (It felt so good to say that...)

TV commercials that are three times as loud as the program you are watching.

By the way, is it my imagination, or have TV commercial breaks gotten a lot longer recently? I counted 22 commercials in one break a few nights ago. The program sort of came back on halfway through the break, but it was only a sort of splash screen for a few seconds to remind you what it was you were watching. And a few of those commercials were the same ones repeated in the same break.
