Subject: BS: Highest rate of posting From: s&r Date: 13 Dec 04 - 08:42 AM Apart from guest I wonder: 1 Who has the highest weekly average postings to Mudcat? 2 Who has the most postings since Mudcat started? Stu |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Little Hawk Date: 13 Dec 04 - 10:09 AM We looked into this one time, a couple of years ago, but I can't remember who took the prize. Spaw was really up there at the time, but he's been posting less often since the tragic accident with the eggplant up his butt. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Stilly River Sage Date: 13 Dec 04 - 10:14 AM Stu, You can look to see how many posts individuals have by clicking on their name on any of their posts. Let us know how your research goes. Are you going to average the posts per year, or look only at the total cumulative number? SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Wolfgang Date: 13 Dec 04 - 10:15 AM Who posts the most? (old thread) Wolfgang |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Peace Date: 13 Dec 04 - 10:16 AM Noooooo. So THAT'S where the eggplant went. I suppose he got the pineapple, too. Some folks have all the luck. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Wesley S Date: 13 Dec 04 - 10:29 AM The quanity of someones posts should be pretty easy to measure. The quality of ones posts would be more difficult - and in the eye of the beholder. My guess is that as the quanity goes up - the quality goes down. Thats just my opinion. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: PoppaGator Date: 13 Dec 04 - 12:00 PM Besides quantity and quality of posts, the *size* (number of words) per post would have to mean something, too, no? Are ten 10-word posts "worth" ten times as much as one 100-word post? Depending upon the thread, a quick pithy little quip might be an excellent contribution. Depending upon the individual and his/her expertise on a given topic, a long essay could be either greatly enlightening or a lot of white noise. Measuring the sheer number of posts will tell us who: ~ has the most to share with us, or ~ has no (other) life, or ~ is *seriously* malingering at work. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Wolfgang Date: 13 Dec 04 - 12:53 PM BTW, the correct responses to both of stu's question is: GUEST. But somehow, I have the impression that that was not meant. Wolfgang |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: George Papavgeris Date: 13 Dec 04 - 01:24 PM Good impression. Matches stu's "apart from guest" statement. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: catspaw49 Date: 13 Dec 04 - 01:55 PM Hey, I tell ya' the eggplant was good and the pineapple was even better, but if you want to fire something out of your ass with real velocity, a smooth trajectory, and lots of stopping power, go with rutabagas. An even bigger advantage to assfired rutabagas is that whereas the eggplant just bounces and the pineapple splatters, that fockin' rutabaga will go right through the windshield of your neighbor's Mercedes! Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: freda underhill Date: 13 Dec 04 - 02:02 PM when are you guys gonna get it - if you say the right things, size doesn't matter. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: M.Ted Date: 13 Dec 04 - 02:19 PM Spaw probably beats everyone else hands down, both in the number and size of posts--How he managed to spew out so much, so often, will be a matter of marvel and amazement among internet proctologists and gastro-enterologists for generations to come-- |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: MMario Date: 13 Dec 04 - 02:23 PM I believe the highest rate of posting is for 'Overnight Air' - but they still don't garuantee it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Little Hawk Date: 13 Dec 04 - 03:58 PM You are so right, freda! That is exactly why Shane keeps striking out with the damsels of North Ontario. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: s&r Date: 13 Dec 04 - 05:03 PM Current high rate seems to be Chris Nightbird. Sir jOhn is a prolific poster, but didn't he post under a different title before his ennoblement? I don't know if he gets anywhere near spaw. Stu |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: s&r Date: 13 Dec 04 - 05:05 PM Spaw is 19861. Wow |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Little Hawk Date: 13 Dec 04 - 05:13 PM I'm at 13,201 posts. Not bad. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: JohnInKansas Date: 13 Dec 04 - 05:57 PM Gee, guys, my paltry 2,769 doesn't hardly count. And fortunately I'm never verbose... John |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: s&r Date: 13 Dec 04 - 06:15 PM John - you should be proud as the man who wrote the manual. Stu |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: s&r Date: 13 Dec 04 - 06:18 PM 20491 is McGrath of Harlow.. Stu |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: catspaw49 Date: 13 Dec 04 - 06:20 PM And the above is the shortest thing John has ever posted here! He once wrote 17 paragraphs on how to type the letter "q." Actually kat (katlaughing) has me beat by a mile. We were running at about the same for years, but I went through a really off spell here after Rick died and I'm just now posting more like I used to do.....but still a much lower average than before. Kat too has slowed down but she was the first to crack 20,000 and currently has 22,475. Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: katlaughing Date: 13 Dec 04 - 06:32 PM I didn't think I'd ever pass you, darlin'...:-) It a sure thing, niether of us have kept up with it, though...just ain't the same... |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 13 Dec 04 - 06:52 PM Hell, Little Hawk, if there was some way you could count all the times you've posted as Chongo, Blind Drunk..., Shatner and various other alter-egos you'd probably be the winner. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 13 Dec 04 - 06:59 PM And what's this horsehit about rutabagas? Fart-powered vegetable purists are in total agreement that the cucumber, particularly in its pickled form, can't be beat for aerodynamic efficiency. I've never seen a pickle fly. Sometimes I sit and wonder why. Is it simply for lack of wings? No. There are lots of other things that hurtle through the air with ease, like rockets, baseballs and bee-bees, that have no wings to them affixed. How do they do it? What's their trick? Simple. They're through the air propelled by forces that come from elsewhere. A gun, a bat, a rocket engine supply the energies that send 'em on their journeys through the air. Well, dang, that gives me an idear! Just take a pickle from a jar, remove your pants and underwar. Then shove that pickle up your ass and leave it while sufficient gas pressure builds up to send it flyin' across the room! There's no denyin' that fart-powered pickles can fly! Just drop yer drawers... Give it a try! |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: beetle cat Date: 13 Dec 04 - 07:01 PM I always wonder about the ratio of threads started by one person to their total postings. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 13 Dec 04 - 07:18 PM Sir jOhn from Hull probably wins that one hands down, beetle cat. Of course, 90% of the threads jOhn starts are the cyber equivalent of dialing-while-drunk.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: catspaw49 Date: 13 Dec 04 - 07:18 PM "I always wonder about the ratio of threads started by one person to their total postings." I wouldn't. It's not really all that much related. What I WOULD worry about are people who write and post stuff like the post above you. Bee-Dub got issues!!! Geeziz Bee-Dub......That's beautiful. It brought tears to my eyes.........no...wait a minute....that was a fart.............It's still really good though!!! Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Jeri Date: 13 Dec 04 - 07:30 PM Spaw, certain people believed you were having another medical adventure. I said, "No, he's just being aloof." "You mean he's in the shower a lot?" "No, I said again, that's a 'LOOFA'." I'm not sure they believed me. (About you being aloof, not what it meant.) Seriously, I've only remembered I have a sense of humor for maybe a couple of months now. Bee-dubya, it's been my experience that once somebody gets a pickle up their wazoo, it isn't going to come out again without a case of WD-40 and a crowbar. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: wysiwyg Date: 13 Dec 04 - 07:33 PM Stats in this instance are meaningless. I was getting flamed for awhile for doing a lot of posting, but a HUGE number of the posts were "welcome to Mudcat" and "refresh." Sorcha has a high rate too but so many of them are music requests she answered. Whatever! Who cares? ~S~ |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Amos Date: 13 Dec 04 - 08:15 PM My stat is 22506, but it is not meaningless. In fact that's what's the matter with it. There's enough meaning in there to fill 100,000 normal posts. I have been over-packing my posts with meaning and this has rendered me kinda seized up, if you know what I mean. I am sure Spaw will understand. Anyway, I am posting much less now. So perhaps the meaning-to-posts ratio will calm down a bit. It seems to confuse people if you allow it to get too high. A |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 13 Dec 04 - 08:21 PM I think what Amos is trying to say is that his cyber-diarrhea is chunkier than average. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Peace Date: 13 Dec 04 - 09:04 PM It don't matter if ya write a tome or a note. It counts as a post. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Burke Date: 13 Dec 04 - 09:58 PM Of course, to know the rate, you need to know the number of posts & how long a person has been posting. Amos & kat may be close in number of posts, but kat's been at it a year longer, making Amos' rate quite a bit higher. There have also been members who posted at a very high rate for a time but then tapered off & in some cases left. Four years ago very high rates went to people who had only been active for a month or 2. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Rapparee Date: 13 Dec 04 - 10:16 PM According to the stats, this will be my 5,606th post since Nov. 2, 2002, or just about dead on 25 months. That's about 224 I've shot my mouth (fingers?) off per month. Know what? I don't care -- others have said things better than I, have made more cogent comments, and know a helluva lot more about music (yeah, sometimes I post above the salt). Why, I don't know a D7 from a gazookie, mostly because I don't play strings. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 13 Dec 04 - 10:43 PM It only takes a minutia of cat/kat spray to stench up an entire thread. Praise the Ever Loving Lord for P.M.'s and the unclogging of the system.
|
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Bill D Date: 13 Dec 04 - 10:46 PM just over 12,000 in 8 years ....and of course, ALL relevant, pithy and thoughtful. Careful thinking does it...and typing 17 words a minute helps. It's a durn good thing I can't type as fast as I think. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Little Hawk Date: 14 Dec 04 - 12:12 AM Bee-dub...Yikes! You are right. I have posted so many times as my various alter-egos, as you say, that I am most likely actually in the lead at this point. Hmmm. I will have to think this over and decide what to do about it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Cluin Date: 14 Dec 04 - 02:42 AM I thought rate of posting might be different than the total of posting. Those who've been around here long would have more posts even though they hadn't posted as frequently as some newer members who are submitting messages more often, i.e. at a higher rate of interest, say, 7.75%, compounded daily, but certainly not keeping pace with service charges unless a higher minimum balance is maintained to avoid the basic corn-holing of the customer who can least afford the institution's dipping into their funds every month for their board-sanctioned extortion and... Sorry, I went tripping along the light fantangent. What were we talking about again? |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: s&r Date: 14 Dec 04 - 04:38 AM I didn't realise (should have) that this has been covered before. Perhaps for me one of the charms of Mudcat tis that the threads are the current thinking of members. You can join in someone's whimsy, learn from another's erudition, offer or gain support, be touched or irritated... Great. Stu |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: GUEST,Mingulay Date: 14 Dec 04 - 05:22 AM 42 |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Wolfgang Date: 14 Dec 04 - 07:03 AM El Greko, grin. Serves me well for not reading well enough. Wolfgang |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: GUEST,Mingulay Date: 14 Dec 04 - 09:10 AM El Greko could not go by post even if dissected. He'll have to be sent sea freight. Just enough room in a 40ft container for him and Les Sullivan **BG**. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Joe Offer Date: 14 Dec 04 - 09:28 AM I used to be neck-and-neck with some of the high-number posters, but I guess I slacked off. Maybe getting married has something to do with it. I'm at 14,330, and I started in January, 1997 (shortly after Bill D). -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Bill D Date: 14 Dec 04 - 10:20 AM but Joe...that doesn't count little red comments within posts...*grin*
BROWN.-Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: MMario Date: 14 Dec 04 - 10:21 AM yeah joe - you seem to spend more and more time on "maintainence" stuff. even most of the midi notices and things you do internally to other people's posts these days it seems. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: catspaw49 Date: 14 Dec 04 - 10:39 AM Yeah Joe.....And you do WAY TOO MUCH OF THAT!!!!!! Who the hell do you think you are? Shambles......Shambles.......Here Roger........Got a thread for you boy........C'Mon Shambles.....Come and get it boy!!! Spaw HEY!!! OFFER ain't the only one!!!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 14 Dec 04 - 10:44 AM Shhh, don't set him off again, he's been quiet for a while! |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Cool Beans Date: 14 Dec 04 - 11:14 AM Rapaire, you need six fingers for a gazookie. You need only three to play a D7, at least on the guitar. |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Pied Piper Date: 14 Dec 04 - 11:50 AM A measly 1004, but I've only been annoying little hawk and Amos for just under 3 years. PP |
Subject: RE: BS: Highest rate of posting From: Wolfgang Date: 14 Dec 04 - 12:13 PM As for rate (weekly average), Brucie is surely in the finals with 6212 postings only in 2004 so far. As for daily records, the highest I have seen was from Amos with 63 posts on the 29th of February, 2000. The shooting star may be Sorcha with 23 postings on her very first Mudcat day (which a bit later initiated the rumour she actually was katlaughing using a second handle). Wolfgang |
