I found Heinz Spotted Dick puddings at the Celtic Collection, here in Pittsbugh. Fans of Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey Maturin novels, will recognize Jack Aubrey's favorite dessert.
I mention this because the store also sponsors ceidhs, and Scottish Highland Dancing classes for students of all ages, including geriatric types like me.
It's on Lincoln Avenue in Belleview.

I have a can of Heinz Spotted Dick right here in a box in my little office/shed. If you check the ingredients on the can, you'll see that it contains fish oils. I have yet to get an explanation for the presence of fish oils in a canned sweet pudding.

Jack Aubrey did love his puddings, didn't he? That's probably how he got to be such a big boy. Seems to me he was also fond of one called "boiled baby." Yum...

i thought for sure this was about a radio programmer...in washington d.c. Dick Spotswood, host of WAMU's Dick Spottswood Show, talks with Bill Radke about his new compilation of forgotten and overlooked Christmas music, "Where Will You Be on Christmas Day?"
http://weekendamerica.publicradio.org/programs/index_20041218.html
http://www.wamu.org/programs/ds/more_information.php
the cotton top mountain sanctified singers are here...
oh i know this is all off topic, but somehow it is
about music and christmas....sorry no fish oil omega 3 for long life, etc. perhaps i should start a new thread.....

Fray Bentos steak and kidney pudding, which comes in a small basin shaped tin, is known in our house as boiled baby's head. Very nice it is too!!

Spotted "dog" is just the bowlderised version of spotted dick. Should be made with beef suet not fish oil. It was one of my favourites until I had my cholesterol measured.

cholesterol and trans-fats are probably the reason for the fish oils.

'Twas "Spotted Dog."

"Spotted Dick" was a reference to a old shipmate of Jack's who while a mere midshipman broke out in a bad case of acme.

Who's turn is it to serve now?

This thread is a blatant and silly attempt to upstage my Aunt Penelope's marriage thread. It won't succeed. That's my prediction.

I know a vetrinarian who calls dalmations damnations. She isn't big on dogs anyway, but especialy not "rottenweillers and damnations".
