Subject: BS: Brutal Murders From: Fiolar Date: 30 Dec 04 - 08:56 AM Over the Christmas period which is supposed to be the Season of Love and Goodwill, I was saddened and sickened to hear of two murders. One was of a 93 year old who was killed in her home and the other of a 14 year old who was strangled. Peronally I hope that the perpetrators rot in hell. I wonder what satisfaction the bastard/bastards who carried out the killings get. I suppose if the killers ever get caught, they will plead insanity. |

Subject: RE: BS: Brutal Murders From: wysiwyg Date: 30 Dec 04 - 09:08 AM Those are just the extremes. The holidays bring out all kinds of distress, dysfunctionality, and acting-out. Few are immune-- the hope of all the promised seasonal joy exacerbates life's unexamined unhealed disappointments and they come right to the surface-- "But you were SUPPOSED to..... [insert stored disappointment of one's choice). Ask anyone in any of the helping professions who has to deal with people-- it's not just the busy-ness of the holiday season that tries one's patience and strains one's good will. It's the old baggage being flung about, sometimes with tremendous force. Add to that the onset of SAD.... money worries.... seeing a year come to an end... the opening of tax season.... and it's like a colossal full moon. ~S~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Brutal Murders From: GUEST Date: 30 Dec 04 - 09:45 AM Snopes needs to update that entry. New studies on all deaths throughout the year which is much more comprehensive than "Olmstead County Minnesota) were published this year, which included a study of 55 million death certificates. The study concluded the deadliest day of the year was Christmas day, when the death rate spikes across the US. But from all causes, not just suicide. So I guess there is something to that "urban myth" after all, eh? We discussed this in a pre-Xmas thread, and I linked to articles on the studies, but I'm too lazy to bother with finding the thread to give the links again. |

Subject: RE: BS: Brutal Murders From: Wesley S Date: 30 Dec 04 - 10:51 AM Brutal murders happen every day. The type of person likely to commit such crimes arn't going to be slowed down by the fact that it's a holiday. And Christmas is one of the big days for family abuse. When you mix high expectations with some booze and forced togetherness - somethings going to blow. |

Subject: RE: BS: Brutal Murders From: LadyJean Date: 31 Dec 04 - 12:26 AM I dropped my purse at the bus stop on December 24, and didn't notice it until the bus was underway. I got back as soon as I could, but someone had gotten into it, and taken out my atm card, and my cell phone. I suspect they planned on using the atm card for Christmas shopping. (They didn't get the opportunity.) Jerks are jerks 365 days a year. |
