Subject: RE: Tech: Jeff@Mudcat.org emails Virus From: MudGuard Date: 30 Dec 04 - 12:08 PM So what? You do not really think that Jeff sent that mail? It is no problem to send an email with whatever you want as a (fake) sender. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Jeff@Mudcat.org emails Virus From: Jeri Date: 30 Dec 04 - 10:32 PM Clinton, you have this annoying tendency to get pissed off about things you don't have a clue about and shoot your mouth off. It's getting pretty old. You don't care if you do anything that will help - you just want to hurt someone, anyone else. Worms use addresses in the infected person's address book to stick in the 'From' field and possibly in the 'Reply To' field. Please discover a clue or STFU. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Jeff@Mudcat.org emails Virus From: Clinton Hammond Date: 30 Dec 04 - 10:41 PM I know how worms work... and it's just as likely that it came from Jeff as anywhere else... So, you 'STFU', dolt I posted this, on the off chance that Jeff is infected and doesn't KNOW it... Take your hurt little feelings that someone would DARE criticise ANYTHING you hold dear, and cram them up your back-side, if you can find room with your HEAD being up there |

Subject: RE: Tech: Jeff@Mudcat.org emails Virus From: Stilly River Sage Date: 30 Dec 04 - 11:00 PM Most often virus or worm-laden mail sent with a "sender" address listed is spoofing the sender. All you can presume from that message is that the computer that contains your email address also contains Pene Azul's address. There are a lot of computers that probably fit that description. Tsk tsking at Jeff is probably hitting an innocent party. SRS |

Subject: RE: Tech: Jeff@Mudcat.org emails Virus From: GUEST,Songster Bob Date: 30 Dec 04 - 11:08 PM The fact that the message was blank and the subject "Hi" indicates that this was a worm-driven email from some unknown person's PC that contained both Jeff's and Clinton's email addresses. If Jeff had sent it, HE'D HAVE SAID SOMETHING IN THE MESSAGE, TWIT! Sorry for shouting, but Clinton seems to have a cranial-rectal juxtaposition problem. Bob |

Subject: RE: Tech: Jeff@Mudcat.org emails Virus From: Jeri Date: 30 Dec 04 - 11:20 PM Bob, some people go down to the local bar and comment on big, hairy, tattooed guys' mothers. Clinton has a go at people on Mudcat. Probably saves him a fortune in dentist bills. Jeff knows a bit more about viruses and worms than average folks, and if the address is always spoofed, the person the e-mail appears to be from is just about guaranteed NOT to be the one it's from. From Symantec's site: The email has the following characteristics: |

Subject: RE: Tech: Jeff@Mudcat.org emails Virus From: GUEST Date: 31 Dec 04 - 06:52 AM This began this way: Clinton: Please clean up your act Mudcats: blah blah Clinton: I think it's as likely as not... Jeri: Clinton, you have this annoying tendency to get pissed off about things you don't have a clue about and shoot your mouth off. It's getting pretty old. You don't care if you do anything that will help - you just want to hurt someone, anyone else. Please discover a clue or STFU Clinton :I know how worms work... and it's just as likely that it came from Jeff as anywhere else... Take your hurt little feelings that someone would DARE criticise ANYTHING you hold dear, and cram them up your back-side, if you can find room with your HEAD being up there So who exactly stirred this up????? Clinton said please with his request. Jeri is the one who came in and started throwing insults around. Thus, escalating Clinton into defending himself. Jeri is the instigator and the individual who shot off her mouth, saying insulting things. But she believes she is always right. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Jeff@Mudcat.org emails Virus From: wysiwyg Date: 31 Dec 04 - 06:55 AM The thread title is pretty inflammatory, but I believe unintentionally so. A tactful title change might be: "Jeff@Mudcat.org" emails Virus?? Perhaps CAH might consider requesting same via Help Forum? ~Susan |

Subject: RE: Tech: Jeff@Mudcat.org emails Virus From: MudGuard Date: 31 Dec 04 - 07:06 AM I know how worms work... and it's just as likely that it came from Jeff as anywhere else... The part after the first "..." proves that the part before the first "..." is not true. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Jeff@Mudcat.org emails Virus From: Bill D Date: 31 Dec 04 - 11:41 AM Let's see how Clinton reacts when someone claims that HE sent a virus, based on a spoofed address. Jeff is about the most unlikely person I know to ALLOW a virus to be sent using his addy. It is as Songster Bob says..... |

Subject: RE: Tech: Jeff@Mudcat.org emails Virus From: Clinton Hammond Date: 31 Dec 04 - 12:08 PM Let's see... I'd take that as an indication that I should maybe check my PC, just in case it wasn't a spoofed addy... Better safe than sorry... I certainly wouldn't take it personally, like so many sucky-babies here seem to want to... |

Subject: RE: Tech: Jeff@Mudcat.org emails Virus From: GUEST,Frug Date: 31 Dec 04 - 12:32 PM Hey come on guys...........keep on like this and some one will write a soap opera about it. Can't you just hear the intro? Did Jeff intentionally infect Clinton or did Clinton already have worms ? Will Clintons hard drive eventually turn floppy ? Will Jeff ever be able to rid himself of this slur. Anyway who is guest and why is Gargoyle, what is a WYSIWYG and a MudGuard. Ultimately who gives a FRUG |

Subject: RE: Tech: Jeff@Mudcat.org emails Virus From: Jeri Date: 31 Dec 04 - 02:02 PM Let's see...if I really wanted to let someone know they might be infected with something, I'd tell them privately. You probably don't know what Jeff's e-mail address is though, so you had to have a public cow, saying 'please clean up your act', which doesn't actually suggest he ought to check, but assumes he IS infected. Then you back-peddle and try to claim "I posted this, on the off chance that Jeff is infected and doesn't KNOW it," which is a load. If you posted it for any reason other than to piss people off, I can't see the reasoning. In my case, it worked, because of the 'last straw' syndrome. I shall go back to just thinking these things instead of sharing them with everyone. Sometimes, 'STFU' is the best possible advice for more than one person. Bill, since the virus plugs in 'From' addresses from the same collected addresses it puts in the 'To' field, there's a very good chance Clinton's sending it to folks. I hope those people ask him privately instead of automatically assuming he really did it and accusing him in a public place. No, not really. Frug, I think the soap opera idea is a great one. The only problem you'll run into is when somebody gets offended by your refusal to take the ridiculous stuff seriously, stomps their e-foot and informs you, "That is NOT FUNNY!" Then again, it would fit in just fine. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Jeff@Mudcat.org emails Virus From: CarolC Date: 31 Dec 04 - 04:17 PM I can think of at least a handful of people who would send you an e-mail with no content and a virus attached on purpose, Clinton, but Jeff ain't one of them. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Jeff@Mudcat.org emails Virus From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 31 Dec 04 - 08:11 PM I was called on this week to "fix" a PC after it was upgraded to XP.
Clinton - WELL DONE!!! You had your shields-up and were aware to the situation before it could cause any damages. You also gave alert - to be alert. The holidays provide a prime target zone for neferious deeds.
Clinton your situation is another WARNING!!! Thank you for posting.
The "fix" referred to above - required restoring "lost" programs that had been backed-up. The "backup" unleased the dormant SASSER-B (worm) the owner became beligerant .... screaming that there had never been a worm before. An over-the-net ... anti-viral ... cost 10% of my services.
No matter, if it is ... sex, security, or the internet. Always BE SAFE and have fun, sing songs, and see that no-one is hurt.
Sincerely, (Clinton ... you did good) Gargoyle |
