My washing machene seems to be biting little holes in my laundry.

The sheets (or whatever is in) seem to be getting pinched by the agitator.
Anyone else ever have this problem?

Can this be fixed?

Raptor

We had this problem with our old machine... we didn't know how to fix it either, although I did notice it wasn't so bad if I a) only washed clothes I don't really like (i.e., not my favourites) and b) didn't overload the machine.

Raptor:

If it has developed recently, rather than occurring all the time you have had the machine, then it is caused by parts wear and can be fixed.

A specialist will have to tell you which parts.

How old is the machine? These things can keep going for ages, but if it is ancient, and you think you might like some of the newer features (when I bought the house a couple of years ago I loved getting a new machine with a "handwash" setting and that gives me more water temperature and extra rinse and spin options) then you may want to weigh the cost of the service call vs the price of a new machine. In my experience, there is no free estimate in small motor and home appliance repair.

Washers and dryers aren't that hard or expensive to repair (unless you call the service folks). I have friends who have done it. They know a little about electricity and small motors, which helped. I wouldn't know how, so would have to do some research before making the attempt. Since I'm good at research, I could figure out how to fix my washer.

Evaluate where you fit in this sliding scale just described, and go from there.

Our brand new one does this. It's wrecked a couple of nice blouses. I don't wash 'em in there anymore-- just tough stuff.

Inanimate objects are known for their perversity. Your washing machine hates you. The behaviour will continue until you are able to make friends with it. Perhaps some nice tasty 3-in-1 oil?

See if you can actually catch the washing machine in the act. Then shame it into correcting its behaviour. This IS a moral question!
