A recent census indicates that tuba playing has become more popular in Denmark in the last 5 years. There are now more tuba players per capita in Denmark than in Holland or Lichtenstein, but Germany still holds the premier position for popularity of the tuba. It is thought that the more sophisticated image of the tuba presented in recent years by popular movies such as "Stollig Werta" has had the effect of drawing more younger players toward this instrument. Music stores look ahead to increased sales of the tuba in 2005.

That's great! Now that everybody's going to be playing tuba there should be a bunch of nice guitars for sale cheap. Anybody planning on swapping a 1963 D-28 for a tuba, PM me first.

Man awakens with a monster hangover and vague memories of having been at a party the night before while discovering he left his coat at the party...

After some asprin and thought he reconstructs where the part was held and returns to claim his coat... So he knocks on the door of the house where he thinks he was and a woman answers the door.

"Excuse me, but was I here at a party last night?", he asks.

"Yes, you sure were, and you were the life of the party," the woman responds.

"I was?"

"Yes, you certainly were. You were something else."

After retrieving his coat the man was about to leave when he stopped, thurned back toward the woman and asked, "Do you folks really have a gold toilet?" to which the woman responded....

"Hey, Harry. Ya better come down here. I've got the guy who sh*t in your tuba..."

Nevermind...

Bobert

At one time, long ago, the tuba was the bass instrument in a band.

Then along came the stand-up bass. The stand-up bass replaced the tuba.

The tuba (or its marching-band cousin, the sousaphone) is *STILL* the bass instrument in many of New Orleans' hottest bands.

Kirk Joseph of the Dirty Dozen pioneered the "sousaphunk" style back in the late '70s, and many bands ~ stage performers as well as marching ensembles ~ have been using the tuba with incredible effect ever since.

A really good player with a microphone hung inside the bell of his big horn can produce every effect that can be gotten out of an electric bass, and with more dynamic range, blowing notes *faster* than anyone could possibly finger strings.

I once was asked to arrange a musical piece and perform it for a chapel service in a Christian college. I wrote an arrangement for Oh Sacred Head, JS Bach, for a tuba trio. it was performed guite admirably I thought, but I was never asked to write any more arrangements after that!   jimmyt
