Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: GUEST,Toilet Bowl Date: 06 Feb 05 - 10:40 PM This game was very boring. I watched the first super bowl and they just aren't the same now. In the early days the grass was real and they played in real weather. |

Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: Sorcha Date: 06 Feb 05 - 10:48 PM Sorry, this looked like real grass and real weather. Only watched the last quarter (in the pub) and actually it looked like a pretty good clean game. Was it 24-21? I really can't remember, already. Just glad it 's over |

Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: Joe Offer Date: 06 Feb 05 - 11:04 PM We went to a concert during the Super Bowl - Borodin's Second Symphony. I wasn't familiar with it, but I really liked it. Now, If I could get my wife to stop humming along with the orchestra... Janet Jackson wasn't there, but I did see some cleavage in the violin section... So, who won the Big Game, Sorcha? -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: Teresa Date: 07 Feb 05 - 02:00 AM Well, I don't despise it, but I could take it or leave it. My family wanted to have a party around it, so I had a good time with them, even though the game was sort of background. Hey, Paul McCartney got the whole half-time to himself. that part wasn't so bad. :) And the commercials can be fun to watch. If I'd been left to my own devices and decided to spend time alone, I wouldn't have watched it. I'd prefer a hockey game. But alas, no. ah well. Teresa |

Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 07 Feb 05 - 10:30 AM I'm not a football fan either, but I think the holiday that has been created by the game is wonderful. I love celebrations! I understand it was a good game too. For all the whiners that like to complain about the hype - that part is over too. Get on with your lives!!!! |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: Jeri Date: 07 Feb 05 - 10:44 AM Ron, if people want to whine, you shouldn't whine about their whining. We don't have enough cheese. Speaking of which, it's fine with me that Philly got creamed. I did watch some of it. Paul McCartney's a great songwriter, but to mme, the halftime show felt like Bingo night in the retirement home. Big whoop...zzzzzzzz |

Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: Bill D Date: 07 Feb 05 - 10:48 AM well...with football over and hockey in limbo this season, TV oughta be kinda quiet for a couple of months! Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: Charley Noble Date: 07 Feb 05 - 11:30 AM Yes, it was a close game all the way. Both teams appeared to be evenly matched. I tuned in about half way through when it was still 7 to 7 and probably missed most of the interesting commercials. The Paul McCartney set was bizarre, fireworks and disco lights, but it's nice to hear the old songs. He did take his jacket off but was wearing a turtleneck underneath. It's over and the Pats managed to win another cliffhanger. Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: Don Firth Date: 07 Feb 05 - 01:29 PM For the most part, around our domicile, it went by like almost any other Sunday. Didn't turn the TV on until it was time for Masterpiece Theatre. The big event was that, on Saturday, FedEx delivered my new HP Pavilion zv5000z notebook computer (customized). Athlon 64 3400+ chip, 1 gig RAM, 80 gig HD, CD/DVD RW drive, all kindsa neat bells and whistles including wireless capability. I spent most of Sunday playing with that. Plan to go wireless soon, so I'm reading up on it. I heard that a couple of days before the Super Bowel, Paul McCartney said that he could guarantee he would have no wardrobe malfunctions. He planned to perform naked. Don Firth |

Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: PoppaGator Date: 07 Feb 05 - 01:38 PM I think it's a sign of progress that all music at this year's Super Bolw was performed live, not lipsynched, for the first time in living memory. Not just Sir Paul at halftime, but a number of pregame performances as well. The most surprsing (to me, anyway) of the pregame musical spots was John Fogerty singing two of his finest and most vitiolic anti-establishment rants, "Fortunate Son" and "Bad Moon Rising." To those paranoid souls who believe that the three post-9/11 Super Bowls have been rigged to give the championship to the politically-correctly-named Patriots, Fogerty's performance should indicate that there is still a *bit* of free speech allowed by the NFL-Corporate Complex. (Of course, we didn't hear "I ain't no Fortunate Son" during the peak-viewership halftime show, only during the more low-key pregame.) For the last few weeks and months, I hadn't known whether I'd stay home in front of the tube Sunday evening to view the game, or go out into the streets for the big Bacchus parade. We experienced a rare conflict this year here in New Orleans: Super Bowl weekend falling on the same dates as a very early Mardi Gras weekend. (Tomorrow is Fat Tuesday.) I got myself thoroughly tired out, marching in a parade Wednesday night and spectating on Friday night and Saturday daytime and evening, and so spent Sunday soaking in a hot bath and reclining on the couch in front of the TV. I'm at work at the moment (Moday daytime), but the revelry will resume at 5pm and continue into the night, then all day tomorrow. Glad the NFL gave me an excuse to take a day off from Mardi Gras. |

Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: Pauline L Date: 08 Feb 05 - 12:43 AM I'm so glad to see that I'm not the only one who doesn't care at all about football. I have had two good experiences with Superbowls. 1. One year, a good local restaurant which I couldn't afford had a half price special during the Superbowl. My date and I were the only people in the restaurant except for the staff. 2. Quite a few years ago, the Redskins won the Superbowl and there was a big victory parade downtown on the National Mall a few days later to celebrate. According to some sources, more people turned out for the parade than for any political rally to date, even though it was cold and rainy. The federal government even gave its employees time off of work to attend the parade. I was a fed at the time, and I took a good, long lunch hour, which I did not spend at the parade. |

Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: kendall Date: 09 Feb 05 - 04:24 PM It bugs me that I just don't understand why it matters to anyone which gang of glandular cases wins or loses some silly ball kicking thing. According to a recent survey, 21% of the people polled didn't care who won. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: Little Hawk Date: 09 Feb 05 - 05:22 PM That means that 21% show signs of taking the first steps toward higher consciousness! Not bad. (Either that, or they're just totally oblivious...) |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 09 Feb 05 - 07:50 PM ... and 79% of the people did care who won. Why is it that people have to go out of their way to comment on someone else's idea of a good time? If they did polls to see who gave a rats ass about a folk festival, would that matter to us? NO!! Live and let live. There is no need to get jollies by knocking people that truly enjoy football. I don't like the sport either, and I haven't watched a SuperBowl in 20 years(at least.) But I'm not about to think myself superior because of it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: Little Hawk Date: 09 Feb 05 - 08:25 PM Heh! Well, I enjoy making fun of football now and then, because I was forced against my will to both play it and watch it when I was in high school. The first was a miserable experience, the second was just a waste of my time. I have plenty of good friends who love it, though, and I do not begrudge them their enjoyment of the game. |

Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: WFDU - Ron Olesko Date: 09 Feb 05 - 08:25 PM Sorry Kendall, I did not mean to direct it at you. I just get tired of everyone posting gripes about football that are directed at people that are actually enjoying the sport. I can't take pleasure away from anyone, even if I have better ways of spending my time. People look forward to the Super Bowl and have a good time watching the game with family and friends. I wish we had more times like that. |

Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: Little Hawk Date: 09 Feb 05 - 08:48 PM For the people who naturally enjoy watching it, it's a great time. Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: gnu Date: 10 Feb 05 - 02:01 PM Just an observation. If a person played and enjoyed a sport, watching others play is the next best thing to playing. While I appreciate most sports, watching those I participated in during my younger years is far more enjoyable than watching others. It just means more to a person if they can identify with the action. As for "The Show", I can understand how the hype would get on the nerves of some. Even I can't take all the hype that the media throws at the fans. And I was a mean inside cornerback and free safety. Kendall... perhaps you might idetify with this. I have some buddies who just glue themselves to "The America's Cup", but, as far as I am concerned, if you're not catching fish, what the fuck are you doing in a boat ? |

Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: Don Firth Date: 10 Feb 05 - 02:33 PM I'm not much of a sports fan. I don't follow sports at all and I generally don't know who's playing who and I don't much care. The sports I do follow from time to time are pretty esoteric: fencing, which I used to do (gets absolutely no coverage in this country, even when U. S. fencers pile up the medals), and figure skating, which both of my sisters were deeply involved in (both won National Championships, turned professional, and taught). Re: football. I don't watch it on TV because I'm just not interested. But should I find myself forced to watch, say during a Thanksgiving gathering and everybody else wants to watch the game, I join in, find that I actually get involved, and wind up enjoying it. Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: Raptor Date: 10 Feb 05 - 08:06 PM Ron Good for you, I like what you said. I find the poeple who complain most about things are the people who don't understand them! And would rather look down on things than try to understand them! What they don't realise is that they only look like pompous, pious, fools. If you don't like football DON'T Watch it. Simple enough. Now who wants to bet the next posts are gonna be about people triing to explain how they know all about football, or played it before, or that they find it too simple, or something like that. Yeah whatever! Quit bashing things you don't understand! Raptor |

Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: ranger1 Date: 11 Feb 05 - 05:40 PM Personally, my household is going through severe football withdrawal at the moment. We taped the game and have already watched it twice over. Right now, my mom is a little confused as to how both her daughters ended up as major football fans (Pats all the way!) when we were raised in a non-football household, but she's dealing with it ok. We may even get her into it... |

Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: Little Hawk Date: 11 Feb 05 - 06:14 PM Raptor - I don't understand that gorilla that busted in here a week or so ago, and tried to kill me. Chongo blasted him with the tommy gun in the nick of time. No, I don't understand him at all. I don't think we had ever even met before. In keeping with what you said, though, I have decided not to bash him verbally in this forum. That wouldn't be giving him his proper due as an individual who has his own good reasons (no doubt) for doing things like breaking into stranger's houses and trying to rip their heads off. Nope, I am not going to bash him here. No sir. Mind you, it's a moot point, because he's 100% dead now. Oh, well...maybe his relatives will appreciate my restraint. :-) Football? GREAT game. I love it. I wish it was happening all year long. Really, I do. |

Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: Little Hawk Date: 11 Feb 05 - 10:59 PM It's Chongo's meds that need to be adjusted, not mine. He smokes way too many cigars and drinks way too much whisky. Did I mention that he's a chimpanzee? And that he wears a fedora and trenchcoat. It's probably best that you know that. I have to say that his aim is true, though. Damn good thing or the gorilla would have ended my present incarnation prematurely. Football, football, football...what would life be without it? |

Subject: RE: BS: Damn Super Bowl is Over! Yes! From: Hollowfox Date: 12 Feb 05 - 10:38 AM Nobody in my house cares for football, but we all admit to being curious about the ads an, to a lesser extent, the halftime. I mean, there's no marching bands making interesting shapes while they play the tunes anymore. (geezer moment). So, we tape the game and do anything else in the world we want to while the little machine does the work. Then we watch the tape at our convenience and zip through the dull bits, like the football game. Marythehedonist |
