Subject: BS: A Headstone for Bill ( okthen ) From: RolyH Date: 12 Feb 05 - 03:28 PM Bill Stephens was an avid reader and poster on Mudcat until he died last August. He posted under the Mudcat name okthen. His wife,Shiela has been reflecting on his life and wondering what would be a suitable epitath on his headstone. She does not want the usual "Rest in Peace" type messages but something that will celebrate his life. She has asked me to post here as he spent a lot of his last few years at Mudcat. Bill was a very creative person and she would like something that would reflect his love of music and life in general. Any ideas Catters? |

Subject: RE: BS: A Headstone for Bill ( okthen ) From: nutty Date: 13 Feb 05 - 03:59 AM I've just written a farewell song that incorperated thoughts of some good friends who had died. The chorus goes ...... When we meet again there'll be such singing When we meet again we'll set the heavens ringing We'll raise our voice in harmony and roll the years away When we meet again .... some day Otherwise, I can think of no finer verse than Dave Webber's tribute to his friend John Purdy ................. And when my song is o'er and done and singing it must cease Just lay me down in country ground to find eternal peace And just one thing before I go, with you I'd like to share That peace for me can only be when song is on the air |

Subject: RE: BS: A Headstone for Bill ( okthen ) From: Rapparee Date: 13 Feb 05 - 10:14 PM Not knowing him, I wouldn't want to propose an epitath. But as an old stonesetter -- he deserves a good one. Rock of Ages is a good brand, as are Georgia Pink, Georgia Gray, Swedish black and Barre granites. Mahogany is okay; you can't afford Minnesota red or black. Look for close "grain" and forget ones with multicolored streaks. And get one that's well-blasted -- I don't trust the new laser carving to last very long. One way to tell a good stonecutter is to ask if s/he can do shape carving -- if they say "yes" ask to see a sample (shape carving is what gives curves to sandblasted leaves and makes them three-dimensional). Good folk folks deserve good stones. |
