Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I Ain't Been Anywhere (Hank Snow) From: GUEST,Patrick McFarland Date: 05 May 05 - 03:31 AM After rereading the all the post I have to agree with Gene that it is "To Bad" not "doo dad". this would also agree with the other comments like "I am sick" "No Place" and "No Where". Sorry I did not make the change in my previous post. |
Subject: Lyr Add: I AIN'T BEEN ANYWHERE (from Hank Snow) From: GUEST,Patrick McFarland Date: 05 May 05 - 02:35 AM Using the information provided by Jim Dixon Date: 27 Mar 05 - 11:46 PM Transcribed from the sound file at The Record Lady's All-Time Country Favorites, Requests Page Six (There are a few holes.): I used a sound file taken from the Hank Snow - Singing Rangers Vol 3 12 disc set, disk 6 1992 release. I then used Nero Wave Editor to apply some Transposing and Time Correcting to slow the vocal down enough to pick out the missing words. Then I did a web search for each word as I thought they sounded to find the correct cities. I hope this meets with everyone's approval. I AIN'T BEEN ANYWHERE by (Larry Butler, 1971) INTRO: I was sittin' at home just a-list'nin' to my radio, An' along came a fella who apparently had been on the go. Well, he started in a-braggin' 'bout ev'rywhere he'd been, And there isn't any place in this whole world he hasn't seen. You ask me where I've been, an' I'm a-going to tell you, pard. Why, ain't even been outside the gate in my backyard. CHORUS: I ain't been anywhere, Joe. I ain't been anywhere, Joe. I didn't want to go, so I guess I'll never know, Joe. An old stick in the mud, bud I ain't been anywhere. 1. I ain't seen London, Paris, Washington, Chicago, Bombay, Mandalay, Calgary, Cashmere, Thailand, Ireland, Iceland, Greenland, Halifax, Poland, Switzerland, Scotland, Liverpool, Dry Gulch, Tombstone, Moscow, Carlsbad, Leningrad, Stalingrad, doodad. CHORUS 2. Siam, Amsterdam, Oslo, Rotterdam, Birmingham, Tokyo, Melbourne, Saigon, Trinidad, Hong Kong, Florida, Reykjavik, Copenhagen, Berlin, Congo, Key West, Petersburg, Wallaceburg, Cherbourg, Luxembourg, Chalush, Toronto, Cripple Creek, I am sick. CHORUS 3. Kumquat, Limerick, Inverness, Loch Ness, Swansea, Cuanda, Colombo, Gold Coast, Edinburgh, Singapore, Galveston, Okinawa, Blarney, Killarney, Karachi, Pyongyang, Warsaw, Tarancon, Down, Libya, Goose Bay, Labrador, Outer Space, no place. CHORUS 4. Olio, Toledo, Wexford, Frankfurt, Silverton, Norfolk, Alamo, Sabula, Brighton, Kiowa, Denmark, Dover, Challis, Rio, Lima, Philippines, Hebrides, Hawaii, Portland, Cleveland, Leipzig, Laramie, Horsehair, nowhere. CHORUS SPOKEN: Wait a minute! Horsehair! Why, doggone it, that's my hometown, so I guess I must 'a' been there, huh? SUNG: I ain't been anywhere [Recorded by Hank Snow on "Cure for the Blues," RCA Victor LSP-4379, 1971.] |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I Ain't Been Anywhere (Hank Snow) From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 01 Apr 05 - 07:55 PM Geoff Mack and his wife are now 'self-funded-retirees' (an Aussie political joke!) due to this single song, so he says! Of course the REAL "I Ain't Been Anywhere (else)" song is the 'Woolloongong' version, posted elsewhere... :-) |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I Ain't Been Anywhere (Hank Snow) From: Jim Dixon Date: 31 Mar 05 - 06:54 PM Warsaw Ed: Hank Snow didn't write I AIN'T BEEN ANYWHERE, but he did record it. Larry Butler wrote it, as I said above when I posted the lyrics. I AIN'T BEEN ANYWHERE was an "answer" or sequel to Hank Snow's earlier hit I'VE BEEN EVERYWHERE. Geoff Mack, an Australian, originally wrote I'VE BEEN EVERYWHERE using all Australian place-names. Hank Snow asked him to rewrite it for him, using American place-names, and the rest, they say, is history. You can read all about it in this thread: Lyr Req: I've Been Everywhere. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I Ain't Been Anywhere (Hank Snow) From: Bill D Date: 31 Mar 05 - 06:32 PM been converting and listening.. agree about Boulder & Dover I think "Alamo" is really Alamosa (in Colorado) and after Swansea, is "Towanda" and before "Iran" (not sure of that one) sounds like Rangoon, only not quite. going away for the weekend tomorrow...we'll see what happens later (my slowerdowner is SilentNight CD/MP3 player) |

Dear Mr. [Warsaw Ed] > > I had another person inquire about this song. I asked quite a few people if > they have ever heard of this song and no one can seem to help me. > Unfortunately, Hank did not write a song called "I Ain't Been Anywhere". > The song he sang was called "I've Been Everywhere". Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I Ain't Been Anywhere (Hank Snow) From: Bill D Date: 30 Mar 05 - 05:32 PM I actually have a piece of software that will slow down songs, but IT won't play RealAudio, so I'll need to convert it to MP3 and see what happens.....watch this space...(or I may have my wife, who is a genius at picking out words, have a try) |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I Ain't Been Anywhere (Hank Snow) From: Warsaw Ed Date: 29 Mar 05 - 04:33 PM Thanks again Jim Dixon. That's a really tough transcription job! I just now tried to fill in the blanks by listening and didn't get very far. I think that it's "Cashmir" after "Calgary" in the first group, but couldn't hear the three blanks after "Petersburg" in the second group. Maybe I'll try to adjust the speed on some recording machine??. Or find Larry Butler?? Ed |
