That is the circus that the Schiavo case has become. I'm sure everyone is feeling the need for some relief from that this weekend, so I thought I'd start a thread here to discuss some of the more bizarre religio-comic (in the dark sense) aspects of this fiasco.

Every morning I go to Google News to do a quick read of what the mainstream media says is going on in the world that is newsworthy (and then I end the day with The Daily Show, to keep it all in proper perspective). For real, non-partisan (ie not Democratic Party slanted like Common Dreams and AlterNet) news I read Pacific News Service, Amy Goodman's Democracy Now show, Counter Punch & Z Net. So, that should give you some idea of how I glean my news and information. I am a self-admitted news junkie.

So, have any of you seen the film "Citizen Ruth"? Because watching this right wing fanatic Republican passion play unfold over the past two weeks is absolutely ripe for parody. Today, for instance, I learned that the protestors outside the hospice are claiming that Terri Schiavo's eyes and tongue are bleeding, and that her parents latest appeals (don't you wish you had that kind of money to throw at something?) include the claim that just prior to having her feeding tube removed, Terri said "Aaaaaaah waaaaaaah" in response to their question "Do you want to live?" Which as anyone knows, means she REALLY said "I want to live" but only got as far as the "I want" part.

Perhaps another round of legal battles can now be fought over whether Terri was trying to say "Aaaaaah waaaaaah to live" or "Aaaaaaah waaaaah to die".

Also on the bizarre and frightening (and not in a good way) Schiavo news front, the FBI arrested a North Carolina man on some sort of murder conspiracy charges--who allegedly put out a bounty of $250,000 on the head of Michael Schiavo, and a $50,000 bounty bonus if you kill the judge too.

Of course, that is in addition to the political threats being made by anti-abortion extortionist Randall Terry that there would be "hell to pay" if Terri Schiavo was allowed to die.

And aren't you all happy that these are the allies of the president of the United States of America, and the movers and shakers of the majority Republican party? Imagine how they'll all be partying like the Messiah is back in town if she dies on Easter Sunday! You couldn't write a script this maudlin and dire!

Hey all you Republicans--where do you FIND these nut cases anyway? I guess this is your moment to shine in the glory of god and all that.

I'd say please stop this madness, you're scaring me but hey! We're so far beyond rationality and reason, why bother?

"Another arrest was made in Seminole, Fla., a small city near Pinellas Park, after police said a man robbed a gun store late Thursday as part of an attempt to "rescue Terri Schiavo."

Well, I suppose SOMEONE has to do it, since Jeb won't send in the Guardia.

When I read the comments of the Schindlers and their attorney (The attorney said that he told Ms Schiavo that she wouldn't have to die if she was able to say 'I want to live' and that is what produced 'Aaaaaaa waaaah') I have to wonder: If they truly believe that she understands what they say and that she is trying to communicate- are they really willing to have her die in an agitated state? I can't imagine anything more horrible than to fail at communicating something so vital.

I have been present at the deaths of two loved ones who were taken off food and water at a certain stage. We swabbed their dry lips and mouths and kept them as comfortable as we could. One was under medication, the other was not. In both cases, life ebbed and sank; there were no dramatic moments.

Pissing off the Right to Life fanatics cheers me up.

But beyond that, it is especially edifying to see the deluded, the deranged, and the crusading Christian soldiers in the Culture Wars for Life saying things like "her eyes are bleeding" and "she said I want to live"--and then putting out bounties on the heads of the husband, the judge (perhaps the hospice employees will be next on the list?), and holding up gun shops to "save Terri"...It shows the extemist nutcases like the Schindler's Army, Guest 4:18/4:12/2:26 & Martin Gibson to be the true hypocrites they are--all of which has great entertainment value.

Which is one reason why America stays tuned, after all. We wouldn't be watching Fox or listening to Martin Gibson if they weren't such able monkeys, would we?

It is my wish that these boneheads mind their own damn business, and pay attention instead to the health, education and future of the millions of Floridians who aren't in a permanent coma.

3. Under no circumstances shall the governor of Florida butt into this case and order my doctors to put a feeding tube down my throat. I don't care how many fundamentalist votes he's trying to scrounge for his brother in 2004, it is my wish that he plays politics with someone else's life and leaves me to die in peace.

4. I couldn't care less if a hundred religious zealots send e-mails to legislators in which they pretend to care about me. I don't know these people, and I certainly haven't authorized them to preach and crusade on my behalf. They should mind their own business, too.

5. It is my heartfelt wish to expire quietly and without a public spectacle. This is obviously impossible once elected officials become involved. So, while recognizing the wrenching emotions that attend the prolonged death of a loved one, I hereby instruct my relatives to settle all disagreements about my care in private or in the courts, as provided by law. If any of my family goes against my wishes and turns my case into a political cause, I hereby promise to come back from the grave and make his or her existence a living ____ (fill in the blank).
