Subject: RE: BS: Blame Normans From: Jeanie Date: 15 Apr 05 - 08:32 AM I recently heard on the radio the funniest true story I'd come across in a long time: During discussions in the European Parliament about some milk crisis, a French delegate proposed that the only way to solve the problem would be by relying on the good sense of the farmers in Normandy ("la sagesse normande") - duly translated by the interpreter into the English-speakers' headphones as: "What we need to solve this problem is Norman Wisdom." Result: British delegates suddenly reduced to gibbering, giggling jelly.....remainder of Europeans totally baffled ! (For non-British here: Norman Wisdom - a brilliantly funny comedian and comic actor, his character creating havoc wherever he goes. Thinking about it.....he could do no worse than parliament does already). - jeanie |
