Subject: Lyr Add: FORD FAIRLANE (Bobby Pinson) From: Jim Dixon Date: 12 Sep 15 - 02:16 AM FORD FAIRLANE As recorded by Bobby Pinson on "Man Like Me" (2005) Dust on the dashboard, rust on the back door, Daddy paid cash for that ol' four-door Ford Fairlane; Bottle on the floorboard, butts in the ashtray Where he sat and talked to Mama after she passed away. Sittin' on some good years, parked there in the driveway, He just let it go. Hand-carved minnow hangin' from a cane pole Layin' in the trunk, ready to go, case we passed a hole we had to fish. Crack in the window, where dad pitched me one soft and low. Had to duck his head; Mama said: "I guess he's got the hang of it." Until now I didn't know why he never got that window fixed. He just let it go. The carburetor needs a kit. The driver's-side visor's ripped. It's getting a little hard to shift, And the knobs are missing off the radio. It's lost its glossy candy-apple shine. The ink has faded on the for-sale sign. The only driver that car ever owned. The first million dollars takes it home. The three on the tree was tough. My feet barely reached the clutch , But Daddy'd let me fire it up, Back it out and pull it in. Dent in the fender, sin in the seat where I found the pin that fell from her hair The night me and Becky lost it. Sixteen when I stole those keys. I guess he'd been where we'd been, 'Cause he just let it go. Dust on the dashboard, rust on the back door. I wouldn't take a million dollars for that ol' four-door Ford Fairlane. |
Subject: Lyr Add: 55 FORD (The Refreshments) From: Jim Dixon Date: 12 Sep 15 - 01:28 AM '55 FORD As recorded by The Refreshments on "It's Gotta Be Both Rock 'n' Roll – Best of the Refreshments" (2006) There's gotta be some changes made in my life. I want to ride around in style, dressed sharp as a knife. I'm tired o' walkin' around here all alone. I need to get me a motor of my own. If I had that car ever'thing would be fine. All the beautiful women in town would be standin' in line. They'll be chasin' me when I'm comin' on down the street, Cryin': "Daddy, daddy, please let me take a seat." That's the way it's gonna be. Still it's just a fantasy Till I can afford that '55 Ford, Until I can afford that '55 Ford, Until I get a hold of that '55 Ford. A T-Bird convertible, that's all I need To get me in the race and me in the lead. With that V8 motor roarin' underneath the hood, I'll be hot as the sun, feelin' fine, lookin' good. That's the way it's gonna be. Still it's just a fantasy Till I can afford that '55 Ford, Until I can afford that '55 Ford, Until I get a hold of that '55 Ford. [Instrumental break] First it warms your heart then it reads your mind. It's got trigger torque power with a Thunderbird line, Detachable top, whitewall tires, Neptune green, Automatic transmission—it's the finest thing you've seen. I don't mind savin' all my dough, 'Cause it's simply the only way I know To change my cloudy skies into blue. Now with the cab top down, baby, I'm comin' after you. That's the way it's gonna be. Still it's just a fantasy Till I can afford that '55 Ford, Till I can afford that '55 Ford, Until I get a hold of that '55 Ford. |

Having been ticketed twice in 40 minutes for driving an uninspected vehicle, I decided it was high time I took the thing to the local garage. It was there that I discovered that, according to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, my Taurus is a Crown Victoria. It seems Animal X didn't know that her Crown Vic was also a Ford, so she got the wrong title. I now have both in my purse, and, as soon as Animal X feels up to dealing with bureauocracy, I will get things straightened out. But this may take a while. I suppose it serves me right for getting a car from someone named Animal X. If anyone wants to write a song about this, they are welcome to do so. |

Subject: Lyr Add: OLD BILL MOSER'S FORD (Vernon Dalhart) From: GUEST,FALCON138506@YAHOO.COM Date: 02 May 06 - 10:58 PM OLD BILL MOSER'S FORD (Vernon Dalhart) Old Bill Moser rode a horse till the old horse died one day; Then he tried to buy a Ford, but the dough he couldn't pay; So he went and stood the rent man off and made a payment down. He was prouder than a settin' hen as he drove it round the town. Old Bill Moser nursed his Ford like a baby two weeks old. He even wrapped it up at night for fear it might take cold; And if you asked him for a ride, he'd never take a chance. Before you ever got aboard, you'd have to dust your pants. He started home from work one day, driving his Ford along, Making forty miles an hour with his engine singing a song. Dick Massey's Ford came up behind and as he turned a curve. He hit Bill Moser in the rear and busted up his nerve. It almost broke Bill Moser's heart to see his Ford bent up. He said the dern thing looked just like a chain gang's drinking cup. He turned and looked in Massey's face and the words came fast and hot. I could repeat just what he said, but I guess I'd better not. Now Bill's workin' night and day to pay the rent man off. His Ford looks like the tenent blues and the engine's got a cough, With an old flat tire and bailing wire and a piece of hickory board. That's all there is. They ain't no more of old Bill Moser's Ford. |

Subject: Lyr Add: DEAR DAD (Chuck Berry) From: leftydee Date: 06 Nov 05 - 10:55 PM Chuck Berry had a great Ford song called "Dear Dad". The best I can remember it.... Dear Dad, don't get mad, what I'm asking for, Is by the next semester can I get another car? This one keeps a missin' on the wide open road, I might as well be walkin' as to drive this old Ford She just ain't got the appetite for gas somehow, and Dad, I got four carberators hooked upon her now, I tried to hook another see if it'd do a little good, But there ain't no place to put it lest I perferate the hood So Dad send the money, see what I can see Try to find a Cadillac, a sixty-two or three Something that won't worry us and keep me on the road Sincerely Your Beloved Son, Henry Junior Ford Played with a standard Berry blues pattern. There may be more lyrics but I don't recall. Hey..... it's from about 45 yrs ago, gimme a break! Lefty |
