Subject: Lyr Req: Mike Cross sea shanty
From: Pogo

Only thing I can remember about it is " And now where's me boots? Me noggin-oggin boots? I traded 'em for beer and tobacco. Oh I spent all me tin on the ladies drinking gin. Be sailin' in the morning when the wind blows "

I have no idea if it is a traditional song Mike Cross jazzed up or if it was one he wrote himself but I can't seem to find the lyrics anywhere. Thank you in advance for the help! {O)

Look in the DT for 'All For Me Grog'

I looked and couldn't find it in the DT. Probably something I'm doin' wrong. However, to add to Barry's post, the link above takes you to a version also.

A very variable song (and title). These versions are in the DT

OH FOR ME GROG (2)
HERE'S TO THE GROG
ALL THROUGH THE ALE

And in the forum All for me grog has links to several other threads on the variants of this song.

Thank you Snuffy and Barry.

I just entered 'grog' in the DT and it brought up a whole bunch of stuff including the ones Suuffy posted. Learned something new today. Cool.

There's a terrific non-shanty version of this song " Oh For me grog" recorded by Martyn Wyndham-Read on his "Sunlit Plains" CD. He says that he got it from Bert Lloyd who collected it in New South Wales.
