What a great sing around! I guess anybody who sings in the Manchester/Cheshire/Lancashire area will know of and probably have been to the Snug in the Railway at Heatley near Lymm. (Every other Wednsday?)

The Thursday Folk Club in the same pub is very well known and has amazing guest (see other posts and the Lymm Festival). The Singers in the Snug have an amazing collection of mostly traditional songs and the informal atmosphere and the warm welcome make this a great night.

I am dreadful at names (my age) but I think Alan was in the chair and he led a great night with 2 or 3 songs from those present. Great to see Ted Edwards knocking out his own songs and telling wild stories.

If you have never been, give it a go, if you have I guess you will return, I know I will.

It was good to meet you and Ken last week, and I enjoyed your 'Light Dragoon' and the wonderful 'Green and Yellow'!

Even we regulars get confused about the dates from time to time in spite of clear reminders here and elsewhere that meetings are on the second and fourth Wednesdays. Some of us have turned up on the 'odd' Wednesdays when a group of bikers usually meet, and there have been some interesting encounters in the past.

These are both songs that I have absorbed from other people. The Light Dragoon from Geoff Ingham of Leeds around 1971 and Green and Yellow from Dave ? who ran the first club I ever went to - The Jug of Punch in Ellesmere Port aroung 1968. I think G & Y comes from Red Sullivan and Martin Wyndsor but others might put me right.

I wish I had longer to construct some tortuous, witty rebutal to Guest but............. well I am now a Mancunian so what can I say about my home town. The Port, as we call it, was in its '60s hey day known as the Magic City.

At one time had two or three folk clubs. The best was the Pennyfarthing at the Travellers Rest in Little Sutton. many of us sang and Russel led with football, much wit and not a bad voice either.

Lots played including Fiddlestone who still play around the northwest and Brian Lupton who I had heard plays on the Wirral.

With the very intermittent appeareances of the Mudcat its been tricky to add to this thread, but good to hear from you again Malcolm. Sorry you won't be over this year, but enjoy your trip to NZ and hope to see you again before too long.

Fiddlestone are still going strong in Wirral.
