Subject: RE: Tune for Mick McGuire From: alison Date: 29 Dec 98 - 09:01 AM Hi, It's also know as "Hot Asphalt" and, "The Regular Army, Oh,", and I think it's also called "Napoleon crossing the Rhine". I think we had a thread on this a while back, but I can't find it. Do a search for "Hot ashalt' in the databeas... it has the tune. Slainte alison |

Subject: RE: Tune for Mick McGuire From: Jon W. Date: 29 Dec 98 - 04:54 PM The "Napoleon Crossing the Rhine" that I know (learned it from a banjo book) has little or nothing to do with Mick McGuire. The two recordings I have of it, one by the Clancys, the other an early recording (1932) by James Mullan, have nearly identical melodies and are very similar to the tune in the database for Hot Asphalt. So why does the database say Hot Asphalt has the tune of Napoleon Crossing the Rhine? |

Subject: RE: Tune for Mick McGuire From: alison Date: 29 Dec 98 - 06:36 PM Hi, I had my doubts about that one (I got it from the database too) ....... I seem to remember it being something to do with "Bonaparte." ... as in Bonaparte's ???????, (don't think it was retreat.) slainte alison |

Subject: RE: Tune for Mick McGuire From: Jon W. Date: 30 Dec 98 - 01:25 PM So there's a tune "Bonaparte Crossing the Rhine" and a separate tune "Napoleon Crossing the Rhine"? Ain't folk music wonderful? I suppose I'll have to post the ones I know and you can tell me which is which. One of these days. |
