Speaking of movies that are hard to find,(Song of the South) I've always wanted to get a DVD of Dead Of Night. I have it on video (Which took an enormous amount of searching and the dilligence of a friend of mine who ran a video store.) I saw the movie in the 60's in a small art theater on the lower East Side in New York City... it was the first time it had been shown in this country in twenty years or more. I think that it's a great, classic movie, and don't know what the legal problems were that made it so innacessible. I don't think that videos are even available any more.

Is this considered a classic film in England?

I also have a video of Whistle Down The Wind (equally unavailable,) and wait for the day they put The Innocents with Deborah Kerr out on DVD.

Hey, they finally put Bad Day At Black Rock out on DVD after a wait of many years.

But, enough drifting... anyone remember Dead Of Night? Is it available in England?

Jerry

I tried for years to track down a copy of "Red Skies of Montana", after reading Norman Maclean's excellent book "Young Man and Fire" and hearing James Keelaghan's also excellent "Cold Missouri Waters". My uncle finally got a copy for me, by recording it off his satellite dish. Interesting take on the tale.

Halleloolyer, and Peace be unto you, Peace!

I've checked periodically for Dead of Night to see if it was available, and just out of curiosity went on amazon.com, and by Golly, there it was... and a double feature with another classic English film, Queen Of Spades (which I've never heard of.) I just ordered a copy, and will be excited to watch the movie again.

Maybe I'd better check to see if they have Whistle Down the Wind or The Innocents...

Jerry

Thank you! You've just found my sister's 21st birthday present. She's been looking for a copy of 'Dead of Night' for years!

Trip To Bountiful is one of my very favorite movies (Tender Mercies is right up there, too.) Trip to Bountiful is available at amazon.com. I have a copy on DVD, and it is wonderful!
