Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: Amos Date: 02 Sep 05 - 01:33 PM Geeze, Frank, it ain't even Getaway yet!!! You mean there's gonna be a Christmas?? Sheeshe. A |
Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: John MacKenzie Date: 02 Sep 05 - 02:32 PM If I weren't going to the Getaway I would offer to give LTS a break, but as I won't be back till the 16th November, I'm afraid I can't. BTW next year I fancy running a Mudcat Scottish meet in the highlands, in Octoberish, any thoughts on this idea would be greatly appreciated. Giok |
Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: karen k Date: 02 Sep 05 - 04:21 PM Giok, How about Sept. so it won't interfere with the Getaway. I would love to come. Will talk to you at the Getaway. Wonderful idea. karen |
Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: Pseudolus Date: 02 Sep 05 - 04:26 PM Sorry, is this too soon? :) It was brought up in another thread and suggested that we should start a brand spankin new one...so here it is! Does LTS want a break? If so I would consider it. It might not be too bad being in the know. Sadly I won't be at the getaway. Maybe one of these days I'll actually get to meet some of you...in person! Frank |
Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: John MacKenzie Date: 02 Sep 05 - 04:39 PM Sounds good Frank, I'm sure Liz would appreciate ahand if not a break, I haven't spoken to her about it yet though, so best to wait and see. Regarding the timing of a Mudcat Highland Gathering, there is so much on in the UK all summer that I thought of October first as the festivals die down by then, although I too would prefer it to be September, but that's why I put it up for discussion so early. G.. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: Liz the Squeak Date: 02 Sep 05 - 04:57 PM I'd be happy to do this and was planning on setting it up this weekend, so...... If you want in, PM me your postal details, if you do not want an overseas and I'll do the usual. SECSY LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: Stilly River Sage Date: 02 Sep 05 - 05:58 PM With the amount of time it takes packages to travel, getting started early is a good idea. We've seen packages take four and six weeks (and more) to travel between continents. Isn't it nice to consider the prospect of cool weather and fall preparations for the holiday season? It's about 98 right now here in Texas. I am heartily tired of this heat. (Yeah, I know, some Mudcatters get their holiday in the smack of the hot season. That makes a white xmas a real weather challenge, though I have friends who were hiking and camping in Tasmania one year in the 1970s who were snowed on on christmas day!) SRS |

Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: Stephen L. Rich Date: 03 Sep 05 - 01:38 AM SECSY LTS, your a peach! Thanks for doing this again. i certainly couldn't have done it. I tend to be almost as organized as a three-legged camel running backwards on a high speed treadmill and busier than a pinata full of baboons. Nonetheless, I'd love to be apart of the Secret Santa thing this year. It's always fun and surprising. Stephen Lee |
Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: John MacKenzie Date: 03 Sep 05 - 04:23 AM Count me in too Liz. I wasn't trying to steal your SECSY job BTW, just covering the bases in case you neede a break. Giok |
Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: MBSLynne Date: 03 Sep 05 - 06:28 AM Yep..I'm in too! My first time last year and it was great fun. As far as a Highland meet goes...epn and I are both all in favour of that. October is good because it's when festivals are dwindling and we have the prospect of a couple of months with nothing to go to. Can you make it lateish though so as not to clash with Banbury and the Donisthorpe Music Weekend which we are hoping to revive? Perhaps this needs it's own thread? Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: el_punkoid_nouveau Date: 03 Sep 05 - 06:31 AM Count me in! If we start now, plenty of time to get things organised and posted to far flung parts of the planet... BTW Giok - my only concern is how are the Highlands for camping in October? Other than that, go for it! epn |

I WILL NOT GO TRAWLING THREADS FOR PEOPLE'S DETAILS. PM ME OR YOU WON'T BE IN IT! Don't asume that I've got all your details from last time either.... I lost a lot of stuff in our computer crash last year, after I'd sent it all out. Sorry.... LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: Liz the Squeak Date: 03 Sep 05 - 07:26 PM Anyone can play, they just meed to be willing to post a small gift to someone in a strange place. Gifts can be up to the value of about $15 or £10, or more or less, depending on your own personal circumstances. Homemade or local crafts and gifts are always welcomed. Send me a Personal Message with your postal details on and I will match you up with someone in a far flung place. It will then be your responsibility to get something for that person and send it off. In return, your details get passed to another person who will send you a gift. Enjoy!! Santa's Executive Compiler of Secrets for this Year. LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: Tannywheeler Date: 03 Sep 05 - 07:50 PM Well, LTS, you saw me coming. I was just about to ask what a "Secret Santa" was and how "he" functioned--for us newbies, ya know. Tw |

Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: Stilly River Sage Date: 04 Sep 05 - 12:35 AM Here are a few threads from last year to give you an idea of what to expect. And now is a good time to become acquainted with the Logon/Logoff features in the upper right dropdown menu. You can come in and be the Secret Santa in a guest guise and toss hints in the direction of your intended. You need to post something to this year's version of the hints thread. Secret Santa Hints 2004 is where last year people posted the particulars they wanted their potential Secret Santas to be aware of. We tend to discuss Santas (those giving) and Santees (those receiving). This thread is called BS: SECSY Silly Secret Santa/Santee Hints and was started by me last year to get the ball rolling. I came in as a guest, as did many of the others. SRS |

Good grief - it only seems like a few short months since I got my last year's pressie.......... actually it IS only a few short months for me. There was a delay, but it was worth the wait. Thanks SRS! Jenny |
Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: SharonA Date: 04 Sep 05 - 03:07 PM After Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath this week, and the repercussions that are already reverberating through the US, the lyrics of the old song are truer than ever: "We need a little Christmas now!" Heck, by Christmas I could send $15 worth of gasoline in a thimble, and it wouldn't cost much postage at all! (...well, it all depends on the weight of the thimble...) I haven't participated in the Mudcat Secret Santa in a year or two, but this year, count me in! It'll be a very welcome bit of fun. PM on the way. Sharon |

Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: Stilly River Sage Date: 05 Sep 05 - 09:56 AM At times of extreme crisis and stress, pleasant diversions are not only welcome, they are necessary. Many of us will contract our lives and activities to respond to shortages, and we will also be working to contribute to or help out at agencies helping hurricane victims unknown to us. In the midst of this, selecting a small thoughtful gift to surprise a fellow Mudcatter is indeed a pleasant diversion. I will also be finding a few new toys now to have ready for the Cowboy Santa program that the City of Fort Worth Parks and Community Services Department runs every year. I worked there for several years in the last 1990s, but I'll be back this year, because it is certain that there will be hundreds of extra children needing a little christmas. Thanks, Liz, for organizing this again. I just wanted you to know how welcome this is in the midst of everything else that is going on right now. Maggie (SRS) |

Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: Liz the Squeak Date: 05 Sep 05 - 11:49 AM Bugger... didn't realise I'd have to check the list, not once, but TWICE!!! I'm reconsidering folks!!! SECSY LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: sian, west wales Date: 06 Sep 05 - 08:08 AM No! Don't do that, O Organized One! Is there such a thing as a SemiPermathread? I keep forgetting to add these threads to my tracer and get all flustered trying to keep track ... siân |
Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: Stilly River Sage Date: 06 Sep 05 - 10:36 AM Bugger. I should have posted this link to the 2005 hints thread here instead of in the confusing elf-name thread that looks like it is the Secret Santa thread. I posted a link to last year's thread a couple of days ago. Take pity on your potential Secret Santa and go back and dig out your information, update it, and post it on the new hints thread so they don't have to go looking all over for it. "Last year's the same" isn't as helpful as going the extra distance (thus making sure your Santa knows exactly what you do--or don't--want.) SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: Crane Driver Date: 06 Sep 05 - 04:36 PM OK SRS - done so. Not that I know exactly what I want myself - the confusion and misdirection on the threads leading up to delivery are as much fun as anything. Liz - are you Secsy or ain't you? We need to know! Andrew |
Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: Liz the Squeak Date: 07 Sep 05 - 02:47 AM Well CD........ whether I'm secsy or not I shall leave up to you (although there is someone who tells me I am..... :]), but I am for my sins, Santas' Executive Compiler of Secrets for this Year 2005. The last call for Secret Santa joiners will be towards the end of September, so that I can sort the lists before Sept 30th. That way, those at the Getaway can plot, scheme, connive, finagle, devise and obfuscate to their hearts content. LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: John MacKenzie Date: 07 Sep 05 - 03:12 AM Can I suggest through the medium of this thread that Mudcatter's put their profile on record, or update their existing one. It makes it easier and more interesting for a Santa if he/she can get data on their Santee. Giok |
Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: open mike Date: 07 Sep 05 - 01:02 PM ah ha! something to look forward to... I'll give it a go...pm on the way. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: open mike Date: 07 Sep 05 - 02:25 PM refresh to keep the 2 SS threads neck in neck |
Subject: RE: BS: The Official 2005 Secret Santa thread From: sian, west wales Date: 08 Sep 05 - 04:57 AM Another way of finding out about your Santee is to click on their blue-clicky name in a thread (as above) and read through old posts. Then you can tease and torment them with various bits of info in the hints threads ... if you're THAT kind of elf. siân |
