Subject: BS: Good thoughts needed for catsPHiddle's Grandma
From: Catherine Jayne
Date: 04 Sep 05 - 12:04 PM

I know some of you don't like these threads and I know there is alot of good energy and thoughts etc needed for the people of New Orleans but I would like to tell you about my Grandma and some of you met her at mine and Micca's wedding in May this year where I wore the tiara she wore at her wedding to my Grandpa 50 years earlier.

My Mum phoned me today to tell me that my Grandma Majorie has just been diagnosed with Lymphoma a form of cancer and that it is incurable. Over the past two years she has been in and out of hospital with liquid on her lungs and the consultant's didn't know what has been causing it. Grandma went for a CT Scan where it has shown up the cancer. They think they have caught it early enough to shrink it with chemotherapy but it could come back in 6 weeks or 2 years, they just don't know.

My Grandma (like everyone else's Grandma)is an amazing woman. She nursed my Grandpa through cancer over 10 years ago and was at his side when he died. She is as can be expected upset and scared and shocked. Grandma is a very loving woman and has always been there for her daughters and her 5 grandchildren. As a child my brother and I spent alot of time with her and my Grandpa. She taught me how to bake and my Mum says I get my love of shoes from her too!!

Im finding this very hard to come to terms with as she is only 72 and is otherwise fairly fit and healthy. I feel so helpless as I am a long way from her but hope to get up to Scarborough to see her very soon.

Any good thoughts and enery will be much appreciated.

Post stories about your Grandparents here too, I would love to read them.

Love Khatt and Micca x

Khatt and Micca,

I am sorry to hear of your grandmother's diagnosis and the difficulties ahead. I have no stories to share about my grandparents--I never met any of them. Two grandparents died before I was born. My parents both managed to each feud with their living parent and cut off all connections.

Whatever the outcome of your grandmother's treatment, you are so fortunate to have known and had access to her all of these years.

SRS

Dear Khatts

I hope you will accept my prayers as the gift of love for all of you which they are.

We hear the word cancer and our world seems to fall apart but there is a future, however long or short that may be for any of us. Your gran sounds a wonderfull lady, a strong lady, there will be times when the way is hard but walk with her, love her as you have always loved her, write her letters, poems , songs, paintings anything and everything that expresses the love you share. Remember you do not die with cancer the victory is to live with it untill the day you die.

In the last few weeks of my friends life we found these words they reminded us of a great truth cancer is powerless to steal who we are.

WHAT CANCER CAN NOT DO!
Cancer is so limited...............
It can not cripple love!
It can not shatter hope!
It can not corrode faith!
It can not destroy peace!
It can not kill friendship!
It can not suppress memories!
It can not silence courage!
It can not invade the soul!
It can not steal eternal life!

Love Meg

Our prayers go out to your Grandma, and all of you and the family. My Mother had serious heart attack three days ago, and at the age of 98 will have a tough time regaining her strength. It's always hard to know, though, what is a blessing. My Grandfather "lived" to 90 or 91, but the last seven or eight years he was flat on his back in a nursing home bed. He was alive, but not what I think of as living.
I prayer that your Grandma surprises the Doctors, with a remission.
Most of all, I pray that you are all a loving support for each other.
Sometimes people forget that it is the family that needs prayer as much (and sometimes) more than the person who is afflicted..

Jerry

So sorry Khatt...lots of love to you from all of us. And plenty of good thoughts to your Grandma. My Dad had chemo on tumours in his bladder. He's 77 and is now fit and well again and over here from Australia with us for three weeks, having just been to Las Vegas to celebrate my Mum's 80th. So remember that these days lots of people are ok after these things. And in older people, cancers tend to grow much more slowly too.....

I am sending you and your Grandma, as wall as everyone else, lots of Light and Love, Khatt. May I ask for her first name, please? It makes it easier to focus. PM, if you don't want to put it in public, please.

My mom had cancer in her 50's and lived on to see her early 80's, cancer-free, after chemo and surgery; medical technology wasn't near what it is today.

The only grandparent I really knew in the physically present sense was my mom's mom, Grandma Flora. I loved her so much. When she passed on when I was 13 I was so sad. This past Christmas, I found a reel-to-reel tape my brother made of her in the 1950's reading stories to us. I put them on CDs for everyone for Christmas. It was amazing and very emotional for me to hear her again after so many years.

If there is any way that you can, I'd say get your Gran on tape, video, audio, minidisc, whatever, with her stories, lore, wisdom, etc. It will be good for all to share and hear NOW while she is here and later when your memories beckon.

In the meantime, I will give thanks for peace and a pain-free time for her and for the rest of you, as well as send lots of love.

Blessed Be, darlin',

luvyakat

My father in law had non Hodgkin's lymphoma.

He had several lots of treatment and was able to survive for quite a few years.

That was almost ten years ago and there could have been improvements in the treatment since then - these days cancer is not a death sentance. Even if it is eventually fatal there is at least a paragraph still to write before then.

Khatt,

Lymphoma isn't necessarily non curable. A German friend of mine was diagnosed with lymphoma (Hodgkin's, I think) back in February, a nasty fist-sized lump, and she's just about back to normal again needing only one scan to pronounce her all cured, but last scan showed just a few traces still to go away.

Best wishes for you and your grandma!

Bente

I still remember leaving church and going to Memere's for dinner. Not the whole family just me. As one of 33 grandkids it always made me feel really special. (Yes, others had a turn at times, but this was my time). And it's where I could always find a book on the wall that had been left behind by one of my aunts or uncles and curl up and read. I was lucky enough in college to interview her about working in the New England Mills as a young woman. The cassette was destroyed in Hurricane Floyd, but the transcripts still survive.

My mom's mom was always Grandma. that was the house full of baking desserts, crafts and laughs. Halloween Parties when Grandma and Grandpa dressed as Adam and Eve. Camping as an extended family with aunts and uncles and all. Grandma lived into her early eighty's and was able to meet all of my children.

Khatt, I spent the day pruning back a monster rose bush. (More like a hedge) I've taken out about 40 square feet of dead wood and overgrowth. AS I work tommorrow, yes there is more to go) I'll think of your Gran and the cancer that needs to go as well.

Thanks for a chance to share a few memories.

Blessings and Light

Kathy

So sorry to hear that Khatt. Good thoughts coming your way from both of us.

My grandparents all died before I was out of my teens but I do particularly remember my paternal grandfather - we called him Grandad Chocolate because he always had sweets for us whenever we visited. He was a very special man with a lot of affection for his grandchildren.

I hope, when my grandchildren grow up, that they will remember me with love and affection.

Khatt if she is fit and healthy she has a good chance! Doctors always seem to prepare you for the worst and there are so many stories of people being given one month to live and surviving another ten years! Never give up hope, because that is what causes us to fail.

I lost my grandmother last year, right after I came back from Towersey. That hurt badly as she had gone into hospital with a broken leg and died of an MRSA infection. Apparently the hip operation she had had three months previously was a botched job and they had to re-do it. However it was something like two weeks before they could schedule it and by then she had a very nasty infected pressure sore. An air mattress would have prevented that but the operation was always going to be "tomorrow" so there wasn't any need for one!
A month before she had come up to Dundee from Essex with my mother to watch me graduate from university, the first of her grandchildren to do so. That is how I will remember her, very very proud of me and what I had achieved. She told me how much my grandfather would have loved watching me as well. These are the things we should always remember about our family!
Brightest blessings,
Crystal

I'll second Rumncoke. A friend died last year. That's the bad news. The good news is that he'd survived with lymphoma for 9 years, and only died because an idiot doctor changed his medication, as I've mentioned elsewhere. He had his ups and downs during that time, but before the wrong prescription, he was vigorous as ever, and planning a move to a new home in (yet) another part of the country.

I'm with Sinsull. Having neither parents nor grandparents left, I order you to go find the ones you have, scoop 'em up and love them the best you can. Just the way they've loved you. A grandparent's love in particular is so different and special.

You too, Jerry. Hard times, huh?

You're all in my thoughts and prayers today.

Sending warm fuzzies from Maine for your Grandma and hugs to you.

My Grammie raised me until I was six and was (and still is!) a haven for me when things got tough. When we get together, we talk about all sorts of things, from the silly stuff our pets do to weighty issues like politics and religion. She taught me to question authority at a young age. She's an amazing woman and I tell her that, often.

Dear Khatt,

I`m so sorry you have had this sad news. Your Grandma sounds like a lady full of spirit and surounded by love. Both those facts, along with the skilled help of her Doctors, will help her fight this cancer. From what others have said above, there are lots of examples of people fighting this kind of cancer for a VERY long time , and having a good life whilst doing it as well. Please add positive thoughts and enery from Shelagh and me to all those you have been recieving. (((((Khat and Micca))))

Dear Khatt,
I am sorry to hear of the hard work infront of your wonderful grandmother . I know she will do her part and that you will be even closer because of it !! Optomisum in adversity is what makes for an inspiring life and rollercoaster ride . Lots of love , Guy .

Speaking of rides My favorite memory of my mother's mother is the day she entered the Merrit Parkway THE WRONG WAY . My brother and I were 6 and 10 so it was 1956 . Thankfully there were less people on the parkway back then but we both got on the floor of the back seat of her 52 Pontiac screaming "Grandma your going the Wrong way ". She never noticed a thing : Being a Boston blue stocking and deaf as a doorknob she beleived she owned the road ,knew where she was going and thankfully didnt hear what the other cars were tonking or yelling . For some reason my mom didnt let us drive with her much after that.
