Worst part is that his crime is largely responsible for the republican majority in the house and that won't be corrected even if he is executed.

The real question is if Bush can function at all if by some chance Rove is forced to step down---and if he's indicted, it's not unlikely.

And if Libby is indicted instead, what will that mean?

There's a significant comma missing, surely?

'Hang your head, Tom Delay, and cry!' Would be the imperative, directed at Mr de Lay, whereas, what we currently have actually orders us to hang our own personal chief Tom de Lay, which assumes we all have several.

This does seem a little judgemental, as not all of them can be that guilty...

Actually, I agree with the last poster (GUEST of 06:09). I don't like De Lay, but he's been indicted, not convicted.

Do I think he's guilty? From what I've read, perhaps. From his actions? You betcha! He protests too much that this is all a political vendetta and that "they're out to get him."

That's an insult to the Grand Jury that indicted him and to the justice system.

Sounds to me like the squealing of a pig caught under a fence.

Ronnie Earle has gone after democrats also, so despite DeLay's attempt to throw sand in the eyes of media observers, he really doesn't have much hope of denting Earle's reputation.

Many years ago, Lyndon B. Johnson had much the same outward attitude of Tom DeLay..."I know what I want, and I will stop at almost nothing to be sure I get it."

The difference is the almost and the ultimate goals. I have no doubt LBJ fudged a few rules in his time, but DeLay seems to have an arrogance and amorality about his machinations that would make LBJ blush.

No one is going to accuse DeLay of pushing "Great Society" programs on the American people.

DeLay wants to handpick his judge and jury, to be sure he gets a dyed in the wool party loyalist. But it doesn't always work that way, even in Texas, which USED to be one of those "Yellow Dog Democrat" states. There are vestiges to be seen in Austin and environs.

Rapaire: It's interesting how two people can read the same news stories and deduce completely opposit opinions. From all I've read, DeLay is innocent of breaking campaign finance laws AT the time he is accused of doing so.

Sorefingers: No point in allowing him his day in court, right?

Of course he deserves his day in court. It may turn out no one deserves it more than he. He just doesn't deserve to be allowed to go judge shopping, just because he is a politician.

And it is his sense of entitlement that he DOES deserve that preferential treatment (to judge shop), that makes him the unappealing, arrogant ass that he is. He won't win any sympathy from a jury with the attitudes he has expressed so far, that's for sure.

Doug, that's the problem with getting your information from the news. And that's why I try to find a wide spectrum of sources to get it from. I can only discuss the case from what I've read or heard and not from my own certain knowledge or evidence. Which is why I said that he was indicted, not convicted. Apparently a Grand Jury found that the evidence was strong enough to return a true bill; now it remains to be seen whether or not that evidence is strong enough for a conviction, where the standards are higher.

The other -- that the gentleman doth protest too much -- is my opinion, based upon seeing others caught with their hands in the cookie jar, so to speak. Nixon, Estes, Clinton, Poindexter, a whole slew of politicians in Illinois....

Yeah, Bev and Jerry, great point...

Here the avearage workin' man, who plays by the rules and pays his taxes, is gettin' his hard earned tax bucks spent by crooks who were elected because of illegeal redristricting in Texas and illegal use of funds... Hey, if this just effected Texas it would be one thing but it doesn't... It effects every American taxpayin' workin man or woman...

Here's what I don't get... In Bush v. Gore the Supreme Court ruled that Bush would be "harmed' (???????????????) if the recount would be allowed to continue??????

Ahhhh, like what the heck did that mean??? Well, if me and the Wes Ginny Slide Rule have it correct that would mean that Bush would have lost, which of course, we all know he did...

Now fast forward and the House of Representatives swings heavily toward redneck Repubs, mostly from Texas, and I, as a tax payin' worker, feeel harmed by waht Tom Delay has done to me... I don't want, nor do I deserve, to be friggin' *****ruled****** by a bunch of redneck cowboys....

I have been ****harmed**** beyond my wildest nightmares by Tom DeLay and I hope the wiezel gets lots of jail time...

But beyond that, I think America, on the whole is owed REPARATIONS fir the damage he has done to democracy....

I think that Texas should be forced to go back to the pre-Dealy boundaries in the next federal election....

At the very least....

Bobert

Mr. Bobert, you are a trip! By definition, a redneck is a poor southern white person. Bush, DeLay, et.al., poor?

I have read where you have been buying and selling properties. How have you been "hurt"? Examples, please!

Could you possibly be lacking in self esteem, hence the reason for your ridiculous outbursts? Possibly even a little delusional?

Bobert,

Some of these scurrilous guests are just working to distract your attention away from the subject at hand and in the process attract attention to themselves. Name-calling seems to be a tried-and-true method. But as long as they're hiding as an anonymous "Guest", you can dismiss them as inconsequential. Gadflies. Know what I mean?

Not intended to be name calling - just an opinion of what seems to be a character reflection.

And yes, inconsequential would be the proper verb. What other effect could one have in a place such as this?
Know what I mean?

Seems to me, when people repeatedly tell others their actions or words are having/will have no effect, it's pretty likely to be the opposite of the truth. Otherwise they wouldn't be so anxious to shut people up by telling them their words will have no effect.

Aw, Stilly, don't waste your energy wishing violence ("...hanging offense..."). The most I do is--someone (DeLay) makes me so mad I'd like to get him by the lapels and shake him til his teeth chip.

The Repubs ( Gingrich, the Newt) crucified Jim Wright and put up the ethics in Congress rules. Now they're caught with their pants down violating the same rules they insisted on and they're trying to repeal them.

BTW, Stilly, I'm PROUD to be a vestige.....      Tw

Donuel's parody lyrics:

(Chorus)
Hang down yur head Tom Delay
Hang down yur head and smile
Texas just gave you one inch
Then you went and stole a mile

Tom was a terminator
Killin bugs and pests
He wanted to use banned poisons
so he attacked Congress

He chose to be one of em
He ran for the house and won
He found there was big money
and drew lines to have some fun.

(Chorus)

Tom broke all the campaign rules
And swept it under the rug
Now he's no longer leader
He's squashed like a great big bug

I can't be judged by libr'als
I need a jury of my peers
So they gathered crooks and criminals
Amidst the shouts and jeers

(Chorus)
