Subject: Lyrics for: Well may the world go From: marla Date: 24 Feb 97 - 11:39 AM I am looking for the lyrics to a song. I am pretty sure the title is: "Well may the World Go." I am also pretty sure that it was done (long ago) by Pete Seeger, perhaps on banjo?? I would really, really appreciate getting a hold of the the words. There do not happen to be alot of resources for music in this town. Library loan can take up to a month or more, so if someone would print it here or tell me what database, and where, it would really help a lot!! Thanks, marla (Archer@mufn.org) |
Subject: RE: Lyrics for: Well may the world go From: dani Date: 24 Feb 97 - 04:59 PM There's a terrific Pete Seeger Appreciation page that has links to the lyrics of many songs Pete does. The address escapes me now. If you can't find it there, post again because I'll be at my library Wednesday and I'm sure I can find it. |
Subject: Lyr Add: WELL MAY THE WORLD GO (Pete Seeger) From: Becky Bernson - RJB@pacificcoast.net Date: 24 Feb 97 - 06:35 PM I learned this lovely set of words to the old Scottish tune “Keel Row" from Mike Marker, now of Bellingham, WA. They are indeed written by Pete Seeger: Well may the world go, the world go, the world go. Well may the world go, when I'm far away. Well may the skiers turn, the swimmers churn, the lovers burn, Peace may the generals learn, when I'm far away. Well may the fiddle sound, the banjo play, the old hoedown. The dancers swinging round ‘n’ round when I'm far away. Clear may the rivers flow, fresh may the breezes blow, Blue above and green below, when I'm far away. |

Subject: Well May the World Go ^^ From: raredance Date: 12 May 00 - 09:35 PM This add was triggered by the contemporaneous post about "Keel Row III" which is a version of "Weel May The Keel Row". The more common version of "Weel May The Keel Row" is already in the DT (search: [keel row]). Pete Seeger was inspired by this song to write the song "Well May the World Go". I couldn't find Seeger's lyrics in the DT. WELL MAY THE WORLD GO (Pete Seeger, 1973) CHORUS: Well may the world go, the world go, the world go. Well may the world go, When I'm far away. the swimmers churn, the lovers burn Peace, may the generals learn When I'm far away. CH: Sweet may the fiddle sound The banjo play the old hoe down Dancers swing round and round When I'm far away. CH Fresh may the breezes blow Clear may the streams flow Blue above, green below When I'm far away. CH Pete has it recorded on his "Banks of Marble" album and on "Together" with Arlo Guthrie. rich r ^^ |
