Subject: seeking song heard at Doolin pub From: dulcimer42 Date: 01 Nov 05 - 09:02 PM I was in a pub in Doolin, around Oct. 19, and the guitarist/singer asked if anyone was there from Indiana.... (and Yes, I am). He sang a song written by an Irishman, called "Fare Thee Well, my Indiana." It was a beautiful, sentimental ballad and I'd love to locate the song, in print, or on a CD, however I can find it. Can anyone help? Thank you!! |

Subject: Lyr Add: INDIANA (Andy Mitchell) From: GUEST,Tír Chonaill Date: 01 Nov 05 - 09:30 PM INDIANA Fare thee well, now, Indiana; your green land's been good to me. There I traveled, there I settled, there I raised up my family. But the cord has never severed, and the longing each day has grown, So tomorrow, I'll be leaving for the land I call my home. Friends they tell me I am crazy, going back to just poverty. America is, so they say now, the rich land of opportunity. But the red deer runs so freely, and the heron slowly flies. These are treasures of my homeland all your money couldn't buy. While the ship lies by the harbour, I will look back on that shore. I'll feel sorrow that I'm leaving this green land for evermore. But when the ship lies on the ocean, for each day we're on the sea, All the dreams I've had for years now, draw nearer to reality. Fare thee well now, Indiana; your green land's been good to me. There I settled, there I married, there I raised up my family. But the cord has never severed, and the longing each day has grown. So tomorrow, I'll be leaving for the land that I call my home. There's a bit more infoHERE Click on Track 15, and the lyrics a little bit below the bookmark |
Subject: RE: seeking song heard at Doolin pub From: GUEST,Tír Chonaill Date: 01 Nov 05 - 09:37 PM ... but it may not be the song you are looking for, methinks, as it starts 'Fare thee well, now Indiana, and seems to be written neither by Strupag, or an Irishman at all. Sorry if it's the wrong one... |
Subject: RE: seeking song heard at Doolin pub From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 01 Nov 05 - 09:43 PM You could always use the onsite search engine, which is really quite good (see the "Lyrics and Knowledge Search" box at the top of every page here). The song was written by Andy Mitchell (he calls himself "Strupag" here) who is Scottish, not Irish. Don't believe a word anyone tells you in Doolin; it's really just a tourist attraction nowadays, and whoever told you it was written by an Irishman was either lying or just inexcusably ignorant; he or she also got the first line wrong. See, for example, this earlier discussion: Farewell, Indiana ... which includes Andy's own account of how he wrote the song. There was no need to re-post the lyric. |
