Subject: BS: puppy update From: Donuel Date: 15 Nov 05 - 08:36 AM Gromette has doubled in size during this month. I have taken the digging damage as opportunities to inset potted bamboo and other potted plants. I taught her to not drag 6 ft lengths of sod around the yard. The border collie in her does make her very obiedient but she stays on our heels almost too much. I am afraid I might step on her paws. The other day Gromette ate out of a huge bowl of crayons. Perhaps I can get a National Arts grant by arranging her psychedelic poop in a creative way. titled: different shit/different day. She had a great time on Halloween dressed like Scotter Libby and leaking around the neighborhood. So far so good but I am still hoping she doesn't grow as large as a Rotweiller since I was told she is a - border collie/german shepard and Rotweiller mix. |

Subject: RE: BS: puppy update From: Dave'sWife Date: 15 Nov 05 - 12:22 PM Glad to hear Grommette is doing as well as can be expected. When we had working dogs as pets (when I was itsy bitsy) my father gave the dogs a small tire tied to a rope to pull around the yard either with their teeth or in a sled harness. It kept them from digging holes to Beijing. He eventually configured a harness for them to pull a cart for fun as well. They enjoyed that. Working dogs need a job. Get Grommette some geese or chickens to herd and pray she doesn't kill them. Another option is to get grommette a kitten when she's a bit older. Her natural instincts will be to protect it and care for it. My Alsatian became a proud poppa to a little feral kitten we took in 4 years ago and they STILL sleep together paw to paw, nose to nose every night on the dog bed. Frick and Frack they are. |

Subject: RE: BS: puppy update From: Donuel Date: 16 Nov 05 - 06:00 PM Poop art - loved it. good idea about a cart or something. Off topic a bit but my neighbor just cut down 8 large lower banches off my Sycamore tree. Yes 4 inches of the trunk extends over the property line. I can understand cutting branches at the property line but she had guys cut 1 foot thick branches at the trunk so far up that the tree looks more like a stick. All the aesthetic effect of the 40 foot long lower branches sahding the lawn is gone. I mean she could have asked me or something. I sought her permission to repair the common split rail fence, the least she could have done was to let me know she wanted to cut the healthiest tree we have. You see I even bought books and made plans for a tree house on the Sycamore tree but with the supporting branches gone it just won't work well and we lose the shade. Right now I am of a mind to plant invasive bamboo on the border ... and not ask her first. |

Subject: RE: BS: puppy update From: Liz the Squeak Date: 17 Nov 05 - 12:00 PM Ah Donuel - I am just so good!! Re the tree.. she should have asked your permission and consulted you because if the tree is now unbalanced and falls over in the next high wind, you could probably sue her and her little chainsaw.
