Subject: BS: fancy dress ideas please? From: pixieofdoom Date: 16 Nov 05 - 10:16 AM I've just been informed that our work Christmas party (yes I know, it's horribly early for the 'c' word) is going to have a 'night at the movies' theme. Our team (5 women, one man) have decided they want to come as a themed group. Any ideas? Women will dress as men if necessary. It's all getting nauseatingly festive round here............. |

Subject: RE: BS: fancy dress ideas please? From: GUEST,Mr. Fancy Pants Date: 16 Nov 05 - 11:35 AM I think this is very exciting pixieofdoom. A business Christmas function were you dress up in movie themes. I personally like the nostalgic look when it comes to movie themr galas. With this in saying, and the times we are living in, a gray and white approach would be more appropriate. My suggestion is the movie On the Waterfront. Think of it, you can go as Marlon Brando ! |

Subject: RE: BS: fancy dress ideas please? From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 16 Nov 05 - 12:06 PM If you wish to save money and if you work in an office, think of a movie about life in the office, then go dressed in your office clothes. In order not to seem to be thumbing your nose at authority, wear any red and green office clothes you already own. How much you wanna bet the whole idea is dropped before the big day? |

Subject: RE: BS: fancy dress ideas please? From: Cllr Date: 16 Nov 05 - 05:19 PM Serious Suggestion It should be easy to do and can be more suggestive than actually rude St Trinians: The man could dress as either Flash Harry or and more appropriatly as Alaister Sims Character The Headmistress Only problem it gives Pixie a legitimate excuse to go armed with a hockey stick. Cllr |

Subject: RE: BS: fancy dress ideas please? From: Cllr Date: 16 Nov 05 - 05:39 PM Bugsy malone not only do you get to dress up in roaring twenties flapper girls you get to sing songs. Only problem it gives Pixie a legitimate excuse to go armed with a Custard pie. Cllr pie = paper plate and a spraycan of aerated cream + christmas party well see end of film |
Subject: RE: BS: fancy dress ideas please? From: Rapparee Date: 16 Nov 05 - 06:55 PM Flesh Gordon...wait, that's an old XXX flick. Robin Hood: Men In Tights. Monty Python and the Holy Grail. |
Subject: RE: BS: fancy dress ideas please? From: Cllr Date: 16 Nov 05 - 07:01 PM Another from the twenties or a possibly more risque set of outfits either flapper or corsets etc. The Film Chicago You have the female Murderesses from the song "I didn't do it" as well as Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart Nickie, Liz, Annie, June, Hunyak (foriegn one), also if one of your ladies would rather take a more subdued costume gray suit would do it, there is the prison governer Matron Mama Morton. For the male there is Billy Flynn as played by Richard Gere. or possibly Amos Hart Roxie's husband or just simply a corpse belonging to one on the women. Only problem it gives Pixie a legitimate excuse to go around as a murdering female Oh.. Hang on. Cllr |
Subject: RE: BS: fancy dress ideas please? From: Cllr Date: 16 Nov 05 - 07:06 PM Speaking of Monty Python what about "Life of Brian" where the women are all dressed up as men to go the stoning. Fairly easy to do false beards and robes and your single man could be the person being stoned. Only problem it gives Pixie a legitimate excuse to go armed with load of rocks. Cllr |
Subject: RE: BS: fancy dress ideas please? From: Cllr Date: 16 Nov 05 - 07:15 PM There is of course the christmas classic "Rudolph the rednose raindeer" You could get everyone to wear a rack of Antlers which are quite easy to get hold of this time of year (usually brown felt like dealy boppers) and your man to get a glowing red nose (something left over from red nose day or from a joke shop) to play Rudolph, the rest could be Donner Prancer Vixen etc, etc. Only problem it gives Pixie a legitimate excuse to go around with a big rack. Cllr ** runs and ducks** I'll get my coat |
Subject: RE: BS: fancy dress ideas please? From: GUEST,Fullerton Date: 16 Nov 05 - 07:34 PM I threw a fancy dress party once one guy came as an oil rig and some one else dressed up as the local church!!!! His head stuck out of the steeple. |
Subject: RE: BS: fancy dress ideas please? From: The Walrus Date: 16 Nov 05 - 10:52 PM I'd favour any of the old black and white movies of the Astaire/Rogers class (gents* in white tie, laadies in evening gowns) or of the 'Roaring Twenties'/'Public Enemy' class (gents either double breasted suits and fedoras or d/b DJ/Tuxedos, ladies either 1920s 'flapper' or evening dress), BUT do it all in shades of black, grey and white with neutral grey cosmetics for everyone. Alternatively, pick a silent film, again, all in a black and white theme, white face for all with heavily made up eyes and everyone carrying a small blackboard and chalk for communication (unless you can get 'titles' some other way). Walrus Of course, if the only man is bald (or can wear a bald wig) Turn up as the Siamese court in 'The King and I' * Plural if SOs are invited |

Subject: RE: BS: fancy dress ideas please? From: pixieofdoom Date: 17 Nov 05 - 04:41 AM I quite like the Rocky Horror idea but I suspect some of my more conservative colleagues won't really appreciate it. The classic look sounds good too..........(I could come armed with a cigarette holder Cllr) Thanks for your ideas everyone! |
Subject: RE: BS: fancy dress ideas please? From: David C. Carter Date: 17 Nov 05 - 10:43 AM Go dressed as Groucho Marx. Then when it is all over say,"I,ve had a great evening, but this wasn,t it". |
Subject: RE: BS: fancy dress ideas please? From: Geoff the Duck Date: 17 Nov 05 - 04:50 PM How many people - it is always fun trying to squeeze the wrong number of people into an idea - making the Magnificant 7 from 9 people, Snow White and the 7 dwarves with a total of 5 people - somebody doubling up a two of them. Quack! Geoff. |
Subject: RE: BS: fancy dress ideas please? From: Joybell Date: 17 Nov 05 - 05:07 PM An appropriate one - "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" (Pia Zadora fans are everywhere) We've got the theme song words "Hurray for Santy Claus" if you need them. Cheers, Joy |
Subject: RE: BS: fancy dress ideas please? From: Georgiansilver Date: 17 Nov 05 - 06:18 PM Snow white and the seven dwarves from how many...when you consider you can be sneezy and happy. Subject: RE: BS: fancy dress ideas please? From: dianavan Date: 17 Nov 05 - 09:31 PM The grinch is a good idea. You need only one Grinch, a Cindy Lou, and the rest can be Who's with a question mark on their shirts. Better yet, The Matrix. Just dress in suits with little earpieces and sunglasses. |

From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 17 Nov 05 - 11:31 PM Black is always formal - accesorize with the same single item,(broach, cameo, scarf, belt, hair-pin .... to identify "the team" ....think of the item as your "logo" presented against an expanse of nothingness)

Subject: RE: BS: fancy dress ideas please? From: Joybell Date: 18 Nov 05 - 05:02 PM Number 6, She's all over the web actually. There are photos of her with clothes and without - on different sites -One with her Mum (clothes on) where she's looking rather faded but still smiling in that way she has. She's very popular in Japan and Germany. I noticed that she looks a lot like many Japanese super-girls in some of her old photos. We show a Pia Zadora double-feature for Christmas each year - "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" with Pia at age 7 and "Voyage of the Rock Aliens" when she'd grown up and married a producer. In the second feature there's a wonderful scene of girls dancing with just their feet showing under the doors of a row of toilets. (Somehow they took off their jeans without removing their panties, which are around their ankles.) They're at a school called "Heidi High" where there's a big statue of Heidi on the lawn. We surely love Pia Zadora. Hooray for Pia Zadora. Cheers, Joy |

Subject: RE: BS: fancy dress ideas please? From: MuddleC Date: 19 Nov 05 - 08:22 PM Dear Pixe of Doom, not knowing where you intend having you party, but realising all the men will want your group to be wearing very little... and that other people seem not to want you armed with anything... go 'commando'! so, full combat gear, no underwear......! I personally would opt for the 'xena' warrior princess look... but that's just me... perhaps you should go for 'G.I.Jane' or 'Private Benjamin' look (having a jar-head haircut is a bit drastic) enjoy |
