Subject: RE: Where r u from? From: Peace Date: 24 Nov 05 - 03:29 PM I claim the distinction of having voted for the Party that got into power only THREE times. I have been voting since I was 18 and presently I am 58--and I have voted in all Municipal, Provincial and Federal for which I was elegible (with the exception of two, I think). I don't mind association with Liberals, but I abhor golf. Poor excuse to interrupt a good walk. |
Subject: RE: Where r u from? From: GUEST,Bardford Date: 24 Nov 05 - 03:39 PM Where'd ya get yer stats, Peace? Harper's office? I thought there was at least twice as many Liberal voters than you suggested, so did a little digging. From here - Elections Canada 2004 results , I found this: 2004 Election - Alberta Voters Canadian Action party 1643 Christian Heritage Party 2567 Communist Party of Canada 380 Conservative Party of Canada 786,271 Green Party of Canada 78,146 Liberal Party of Canada 280,185 Marijuana Party 2736 Marxist-Leninist party of Canada 452 New Democratic party 121,560 Progressive Canadian party 456 Independant 601 Total 1 274 997 I've lived in Alberta 25 years. A couple of elections ago, a buddy asked me if I've ever voted for a candidate who won. Yikes! When you put it that way, it kinda makes you realize how Leafs fans feel.... |

Subject: RE: Where r u from? From: Mooh Date: 24 Nov 05 - 04:18 PM Peace, you got me beat by 3 times. I've never voted liberal or conservative, just NDP and Green. I am also a Leafs fan. Mooh. |

Subject: RE: Where r u from? From: Peace Date: 24 Nov 05 - 05:46 PM I voted Liberal once. Never before that and never since. I have NEVER voted Conservative. One of the 'wins' was an NDP fellow in Alberta. He got elected--the party didn't. So maybe I should rephrase what I said. I have ever voted for three candidates who won their seat. Once I voted for a candidadte whose Party took the election Canada-wide. He was a Liberal who did not win his seat. |
Subject: RE: Where r u from? From: Nemesis Date: 24 Nov 05 - 06:11 PM Well, I had my DNA tested by the National Geographic Genographic Project .. and 40,000 years ago I was from Arabia, by way of Ethiopia/ Somalia ... Although most recently, I was wafted here from Paradise, aka Paradise Garten sub-district of the Rhine-Moselle, Hunsruck region, of Germany with a diversion through Northern Italy And I'm going there on Monday for my first ever visit to the ol' Heimat :0) |
Subject: RE: Where r u from? From: Little Hawk Date: 24 Nov 05 - 06:15 PM From God I came, and to God I shall return. ;-) I have voted at one time or another for: the NDP, the Liberals, and the Natural Law Party. Have never voted Conservative, and probably never shall. I am presently living in a municipality that usually elects a conservative for almost any position, but has had a Liberal MP for 3 consecutive terms now, mainly because he's just a popular guy around here. (it's not the party, that's for sure...) |

Subject: RE: Where r u from? From: Rapparee Date: 24 Nov 05 - 10:07 PM No, no, I don't think I want to get that close to a troll, Peace, but thanks anyway. You go on ahead if you want, I'll wait outside in the alley. I understand that they don't bathe, use their fingers instead of toilet paper, bite their nails, suck their thumbs, and very closely sniff each other's butts when they meet. Their skin is very close in coloration and odor to an old, dirty diaper from a baby who suffered from diarrhea and their hair, what there is of it, grows in sad, discouraged clumps that are well fertilized with fresh pig manure. Their clothing consists of polyester doubleknit leisure suits found in the discard tanks of the local sewage treatment plants and their shoes have been discarded by the local golf club as too gauche. Of course, apart from the scattered rainshower they never bathe, their armpits and crotch have rotten their clothing in those areas. Moreover, they are the only creatures in the Universe whose vocal talents compare unfavorably with the sounds of a bagpipe being tortured to death by rabid pigs. And I can't even begin to rationally discuss their prefered assortment of social and dermatological diseases. But like I said, I'll wait in the alley. |

Subject: Lyr Add: DOWN UNDER From: JennyO Date: 24 Nov 05 - 10:17 PM I come from a land down under..... DOWN UNDER Traveling in a fried-out combie On a hippie trail, head full of zombie I met a strange lady, she made me nervous She took me in and gave me breakfast And she said, "Do you come from a land down under? Where women glow and men plunder? Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover." Buying bread from a man in Brussels He was six foot four and full of muscles I said, "Do you speak-a my language?" He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich And he said, "I come from a land down under Where beer does flow and men chunder Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover." Lying in a den in Bombay With a slack jaw, and not much to say I said to the man, "Are you trying to tempt me Because I come from the land of plenty?" And he said, "Oh! Do you come from a land down under? (oh yeah yeah) Where women glow and men plunder? Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover." Living in a land down under Where women glow and men plunder Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover. Living in a land down under Where women glow and men plunder Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover. Subject: RE: Where r u from? From: Metchosin Date: 25 Nov 05 - 12:53 AM I've always loved that song JennyO! Maybe one day I'll get to see the country. I voted for Dave Barrett once. He got in. Usually anyone I vote for never gets beyond opposition. That's alright, everyone needs a little oppostion once in awhile and it suits my seemingly contrary nature. |
Subject: RE: Where r u from? From: JennyO Date: 25 Nov 05 - 07:31 AM I hope you do, Metchosin. We've already welcomed a few Catters, and I think they all enjoyed themselves and would like to come back. It's a great place to live, and there's a lot to be seen that is unique. The song is an Aussie icon, and quite well known in other parts of the world. I was reminded of this a few years ago when travelling in Ireland. I had the radio on in the hired car I was driving in Dublin, and just as I went past the Guinness factory, there was this familiar sound - ♬ "Do you come from a land down under - where women glow and men plunder..." ♬ It was quite surreal singing along to that song on the other side of the world - made me feel all warm and fuzzy too!
