Well, not to mix words, but it sucks so...

...here's what Bobert proposes for the next year:

1. First of all, as fir those rich folks, that party is over... You can't continue being the upper 5%, controlling 70% of the wealth and paying only 45% of the taxes... Like I said, time to pay yer share of the wealth you have corraled. Add $500B to the coffers..

2. We're gonna have to rewrite the Medicaid perscription plan that favors the seniors... No middle men and no rip off drug companines...

3. Speaking of drug companies, hey, we're going to finance a one payer health insurace plan for every American... This is going to help out industrial sector which blames every lay-off on rising health care.

4. We are going to crate private-public partnerships between industry and the various department of corrections faciltities and decrease the incarceration rate by 25% in the next year and 50% by th year after.

5. Owners of new non-efficient automobiles and truck will be taxed at $2500 a year, this money going into r&d for more econimical vehilcles and mass transit.

6. Speaking of mass transit, $200B of the dough we got from the rich paying their fair share, will go annulaly to on a matching dollar for dollar basis to major metropolitan areas for building and maintaining mass tarnsit systems.

7. The Minimum wage will be increase to $12.oo per hour for anyone working fulltime and considered perminent employees and $10.00 and hour for part time and summer workers.

8. All federal elected campaigns will be publically funded and 527's and 501(c)'s will not be allowed to either place ads ordo amil outs... No exceptions...

9. The exective branch will not conduct in any illegal activities and if there is even the slightest possibility that it might be illegeal then it will go before Congress to plead it's case.

10. The windfall profits that have been enjoyed by the oil companies will be taxed 100% retroactively to those profits reported (peercentage wise) before 9/11.

11. The US will enter into an agreement with Saudi Arabia and impliment the Saudi Peace Plan.

12, The US will withdraw all it's tropps from Irag within 6 months.

13. The US will pay the cost of fixing the levee system in New Orleans and will provide gap insurance to any homeowners as well as delaring that any New Orleans resident, land owner ot not, will hjave an opportunity to return and live in N.O.. For renters HUD will offer rent subsidies.

14. The following folks are tonight getting pink slips: Donnie Rumsfeld, Karl Rove, and I the creep appointed to be ambassador ot the UN...

15. All federal effortes to compromise communties from using marujuana for medical purposes will be ended...

Now, them's is just starters... Hey, ya can't do every thing in one year...

Good night and God Bless America

Well, I listened to 90% of Bush's State of the Union address and at the 20 minute mark I had cught him 8 lies, 2 half truths and 1 "Yeah, right" ( a new category added this year for stuff that you know he has no interst in, like making the US less dependent on foriegn oil)... There were a lot more "Yeah, right's" in the last part of the speech in the area of "domestic policy" wheere BUsh and the Repubs have taken a 5 year "pass"...

I did listen to Governor Tom Kaine (Va) and thought he offered more in his 10 minutes than Bush offered in his 1 hour...

One thing that came thru loud and clear, howver, in Bush's was he don't want no impeachement rumblings so he pushed hard for his domestic spying... Porblem is that had he felt he needed to do this he could have gone to his very Republican Congress and got legislation thru...

I don't buy his, "My job is to protect the American people"... (See "KatrinaGate" thread fir details...)

As for the "partisanship" issue, Bush made not one single attempt to find common ground...

Hey, I have laid out what is becoming my annual "State of the Union" here in Mudville and will continue to do so... This is now my second and I will, God Willin', continue to offer a few other things to think of other than the same-old-same-old....

As fir Martin??? He is a joke... He wouldn't come forth with any real ideas if his life depended on it because he has no ideas...

No brag, just fact...

I read Bush' address. I like the words. He's always had good speech writers. I'll be impressed when half of what he predicts starts to show up. I don't think he was the right mouth for those words to come out of; he sounded hypocritical in the extreme, to me. He's still a warmonger first and foremost, pretending that America's choices are isolationism or military adventurism, with no other options. This is not the truth of the matter. And I notice he is shaping Iran up as his next military adventure by carefully pretending not to while characterizing them with the sam ebrush he characterized Saddam's despotism.

I read some of it.

Oh, for heaven's sake. The usual bravado and patriotic overblown BS that one can expect from the leader of a warring great power. The usual pretensions of moral leadership and declarations of idealistic intent. The usual hysterical appeals to standing up to "evil", etc, blah, blah, blah...

You'll never hear a speech like this in Canada. People would just be downright embarrassed by it.

Yeah, Amos, I kinda felt that this was going to be the year where I was going to need the "Yeah, right" category 'cause lots of the stuff he said the only thing I could think of was "Yeah, right..."

But, in actuality, I expected more "Yeah, rights" then Bush delivered... Most of them were the same old worn out sugar coated lies, like again teing the war in Iraq tio WMD's (cleverly, you'll have to read it to see how sneakilly he did it) down to telling us that we're in Iraq to protect "our freedom"... Like where is the truth in that one???

Wal, for all his smarmy mealy mouthed platitudes, the bit about protecting our freedom in Iraq is a new right-wing "retroactive justification". It works like this: we are at war in Iraq. Since all this war is going on there must be a good reason for it. Therefore, since there were no legitimate threats from I raq at the time the war was started, it must be a brilliant strategical move. What has it done that we could claim was brilliant and strategic? Well..it has had the effect of magnetizing the area to draw in suicide volunteers from all over the lands of Allah, who have poured into Iraq to help kill Americans. So, you see, strategicalery, we have taken a widely dispersed and hard to find enemy (think Osama here) and have made a sandbox that draws them in so we can fight them with our military. Brilliant, eh? Justifies the whole operation.

And, since they come to kill the great Satan, and we don't want to be killed because it reduces our freedoms dramatically to be killed, why, we're defending our freedoms in a justified war. See? Ya just gotta get with the program man, and think the right way, and Big Brother will love you, too.

I am glad Bobert watched the Kaine response.   At least one person in the country watched it.   Whose bright idea was it to have the response in the governors mansion?   Probably the same guy who fed Kennedy questions in the Alito hearings.   Conversation probably went "Teddy, you really got to hammer him on being a member of an all male club when he was in college 30 years ago"   That worked out really well.

Well, I only got to the first point in Boberts SOTUA when I found the first lie.   Here are the correct numbers.

Top %    Earns % of Wealth    Pays % of wealth

1%            20.8%                37.4%
5%            35.3%                56.5%
10%          46.0%                67.3%
25%          67.2%                84.0%
50%          87.0%                96.1%

The top 10% of the weath earners in this country (like myself) earn 46% of the wealth but pay 67% of the taxes.   Clearly we are overpaying. Half the people in the USA are paying nearly all the federal taxes while the bottom half (like Bobert) are paying almost nothing.

Clearly the solution is to tax the poor.   They are not paying their fair share.   Why should I pay tax if half the country doesn't have to pay their share of the tax.   TAX THE POOR NOW.   (TTPN)

Bush did not speak for 1 hour, it was only 51 minutes. If he did have something of value to say he might have been able to use up more than 1/2 on the time slot allowed.

The catch phrase is now WMM (weep on s of mass murder) not WMDs.

I hate how he (or anyone else) focuses on a family of someone who lost a loved one to war. It belittles the dead & exploits the family. While at the same time Sandy Sheehan was being arrested, as an invited guest, because of the shirt she was wearing at the time. It was said that protesting within the house is a misdemeanor. What a place to be deprived of the right to freedom of speech, so what else is new. Didn't both families lose out?

As far as the speech goes nothing was said that hasn't been said. The reinforcing of the path we are on, sadly, was restated. Each mention of making attempts to make a bad situation better was hard to hear. Energy – become more self reliant, find better ways. Please you've have already to many years & you've managed to make things worst. Education - No child left behind worked lets go one step better "no kid goes anywhere". Again no teeth, no money, no worry, no more, not again.

Faith based groups will find the cure to the AIDS problem. They will continue to get most of the money to tell the world sex is a no-no.

Global warming, the environment, greenhouse gases, oh forgot to speak about these non pressing issues

Taxes???? The man said nothing of importance here. The middle classes & the poor will still support the nation & bare the burden for the small very wealthy & very powerful no matter what some seem to think.

I didn't expect much from this address & guess what? I didn't get much either, what a sad state the union is in today.

Strong ecomony? Not. That's not the veiw that the majority of Americans see.

The war beats on, the enemies are here & abroad. We are feeding on ourselves & he wants us to go on a diet, PLEASE.

Did anybody else think Dumbya was talking to his "base" the whole time? What it sounded like to me, amongst a bunch of patriotic sounding platitudes, was "it's ok boys, we're staying the course... you'll all be fine!"

The Dems response said a lot of things I liked to hear, but, actions speak louder than words and I sure haven't seen much action. I'd like to see just one Dem step up and say, "this smells like shit' when it smells like shit. Unfortunately, they are too busy collecting money from lobbyists and acting like Republicans to do the right thing for the American people.

No, Larry K, the solution is to get you to pay it all... (grin)

And if you can't, then strip you naked and hang you upsidedown over a pit of scorpions and vipers, and lower you inch by inch while you are made to write over and over again on the blackboard, "it is better to give than to receive", "I love my fellow man", "I yearn to contribute to society", and other such sayings to warm your cold, cold heart. The Onion

WASHINGTON, DC—In his State of the Union address to the nation last night, President Bush announced a new cabinet-level position to coordinate all current and future scandals facing his party.

President Bush announces his plan to manage the numerous scandals of his administration.

"Tonight, by executive order, I am creating a permanent department with a vital mission: to ensure that the political scandals, underhanded dealings, and outright criminal activities of this administration are handled in a professional and orderly fashion," Bush said.

The centerpiece of Bush's plan is the Department Of Corruption, Bribery, And Incompetence, which will centralize duties now dispersed throughout the entire D.C.-area political establishment.

The Scandal Secretary will log all wiretaps and complaints of prisoner abuse, coordinate paid-propaganda efforts, eliminate redundant payoffs and bribes, oversee the appointment of unqualified political donors to head watchdog agencies, control all leaks and other high-level security breaches, and oversee the disappearance of Iraq reconstruction funds. He will also be responsible for issuing all official denials that laws have been broken.

"Many of the current scandals in Washington are crucial to the success of my priorities for the nation," Bush said. "The Department of Corruption will safeguard these important misdeeds."

Well, gol danged....

A Department of Corruption, Bribery and Incompetance??? Hmmmmm??? Will this make Karl Rove Secretary Rove???

But as others have said, yeah, there was a lot of stuff that Bush left out... Like he didn't make one single reference to Africa or AIDS... And what happened to the "bird flu" that he was trying to talk up last month... Not a peep (pun intended...)...

And as fir the hydrogen car??? Like how many presiodents have thrown that poor thing into State of the Union addresses??? Five??? Six??? I think it was Jimmy Carter who first floated the idea...

And yeah, the MMM didn't escape me wither... Melts in yer mouth, not in yer hands...

But now we see that Bush is off on Airforce One @ $10,000 per hour to fly around treyin' to ***sell*** his proposals 'cept here we are a day later and not sure he actually proposed anything other than the "persoanl health accounts"... And lets look at them fir a second... What he is actually saying here is that if you really want tp have health insurance go down to yer bank and open up a savings account and put enough money in it for like, ahhhhh, when you get friggin' cancer from breathing Bush's air...

Hmmmmmmm?

Okay, a cnacer treatment can go fir up to half a million $$$$$'s... But not to worry becuase the average working stiff will most ceratinly be able to put that extra $1000 a onth into his personal health account to go with his $500 for each kid for college and this all on his $14.75 an hour job...

Hey, maybe we could get Larry K to do the math here since he seems to be a numbers wiz...

(But, Bobert, this is the "ownership society" that Bush has been talking about...)

No, the oownership he has in mind is when the working class are living like slaves and that ain't that far off...

I heard on the radio today that the percentage of savings in the UNited States is the lowest since 1933!!! Wonder why???

even if you have savings in your bank account if its in US $
it worth 50% of what it was when Bush was appointed.
Their devalution in 2004 was a way of handling the deepest deficit in history, and passing it on to its citizens and the rest of the world.

To answer a few questions asked:

1. My source of the numbers was the IRS web site.   I keep this chart with me in my planner when questions like that come up.

2. I checked the IRS web site last year and found that the top 10% wage earners in the country were above $92,500 (approx)   This changes a few hundred dollars either way each year.

3. The top 5% I think was about $150,000 or so.   I will have to look it up.   From memory, I think the top 1% was over $350,000.

4. You are absolutely right that Americans are saving less.   This year Americans have spent 100.5% of what they earned.   They actually spent .5% more than they earned which depleted savings.   Terrible. In addition 70% pay credit card interest.   Also terrible.

Little Hawk:

I know you recognized my sarcasm in the tax the poor reply. You asked what I did to help society. Let me fill you in.

The month of Sept. I have done 8 speeches teaching people how to save money on their energy bill (and also conserve resources)   This included 2 training sessions for United Way case workers, Canton UAW, Monroe exchange club, Ypsilanti public library and others.

Next week I am the keynote speaker for Senator Bashams energy summit, speaking to 500 employees at Budco, and training SEMCA (low income) reps on energy efficiency. The following week I am doing a town hall in Downtown Detroit, and appearing on WWJ 950 radio (50,000 watts) for the THAW (The heat and Warmth Fund) Telethon.   I than am taking my family on a cruise to the Caribean.

Last year I did over 50 seminars to over 6,000 people teaching them how to save money on their energy bill. This included many low income groups such as THAW, United Way, Human Services Agency, Headstart, Legal Aid Society, New Detroit, AARP, and even spoke at the Michigan State Fair.

In addition, my company has sent out over 3,500 copies of my tv show on managing your energy costs.   We have just reprinted another 1,500 copies as they are out of stock.   (If anyone wants one, just give me a mailing address and I will mail you one- no charge)

I am also the booking agent for The Oakland County Traditional Dance Society.   Hopefully this saves me from hanging over a bed of trarantualas as you suggested.

Mebbe Bobert would at least hang onto his committments beyond 24 hours:

Administration backs off Bush's vow to reduce Mideast oil imports
BY KEVIN G. HALL
Knight Ridder Newspapers
WASHINGTON - One day after President Bush vowed to reduce America's dependence on Middle East oil by cutting imports from there 75 percent by 2025, his energy secretary and national economic adviser said Wednesday that the president didn't mean it literally.

What the president meant, they said in a conference call with reporters, was that alternative fuels could displace an amount of oil imports equivalent to most of what America is expected to import from the Middle East in 2025.

But America still would import oil from the Middle East, because that's where the greatest oil supplies are.

The president's State of the Union reference to Mideast oil made headlines nationwide Wednesday because of his assertion that "America is addicted to oil" and his call to "break this addiction."

Bush vowed to fund research into better batteries for hybrid vehicles and more production of the alternative fuel ethanol, setting a lofty goal of replacing "more than 75 percent of our oil imports from the Middle East by 2025."

He pledged to "move beyond a petroleum-based economy and make our dependence on Middle Eastern oil a thing of the past."

Not exactly, though, it turns out.

"This was purely an example," Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman said.

He said the broad goal was to displace foreign oil imports, from anywhere, with domestic alternatives. He acknowledged that oil is a freely traded commodity bought and sold globally by private firms. Consequently, it would be very difficult to reduce imports from any single region, especially the most oil-rich region on Earth.

Bobert If you are so great why ain't you doing the SOUs?

Criticism is your game. You can start out as dog catcher and you work your way up to the point where every asshole in the world wants a piece of you.

The Onion is not well known as a parody. Of course Amos will stare down his intelectual nose and claim anybody that does not know this is stupid.

Amos picks out the ones that are detrimental to the administration and posts them without comment hoping people will believe it is the truth.

When he posts something that is not parody he preceeds it with sarcastic notes of his own. Like "The New York Times excoriates the sleazy extremes of the Bush campaign tactics as beyond the pale of decency. What else is new?."

IF you don't like my comments on news articles, I suggest you stop reading them. It is pretty pathetic that you come to a folk music forum to get upset by opinions you don't like, day after day. I am sure you would be more comfortable hanging around a more sympathetic site like rightwingassholesstuckinahole.org or perhaps the threads and discussions at psychoticdramatizingnutballs.com.

If we do criticise the president for his lapses when using the English languages we also may criticise his alternative presented here by Bobert along the same lines.

Putting more money into "mass transit" ? You mean flooding Canada with all the (il)legal Mexican and Cuban immigrants and refugees? That's not very nice of you Bobert, but it may solve some problems and it will surely piss off the Canadians...

Wolfgang (grin)
