Subject: Lyr Req: (not-quite-folk) Larry Gatlin song From: Jeremiah McCaw Date: 01 Feb 06 - 06:53 AM Trying to locate lyrics (chords would be nice, too, but that's secondary) for a country player friend of mine. Spent an hour with Google to no avail (other than just a note of the title in discographies). "Fools Bar & Grille" by Larry Gatlin. Anybody? Pretty please? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: (not-quite-folk) Larry Gatlin song From: GUEST Date: 02 Feb 06 - 08:24 PM Sorry, don't know it! I'm afraid lots of us around here avoid all but the top 2% of country songs, (I'd say creme de la creme but that seems a little silly considering the subject) some even call it 'that dang snot-nosed country music'. Used to love the Gatlin harmony though, hard to beat. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: (not-quite-folk) Larry Gatlin song From: Lin in Kansas Date: 03 Feb 06 - 01:26 AM Jeremiah McCaw, Have Googled till I'm blue, and can't find lyrics for you, nor even an Mp3 to download--sorry. Sorcha, where are you? If I recall correctly, Larry and the brothers were always extremely protective of their music, so it may be that someone who actually has the album ("In My Life") will need to transcribe it for you. Don't give up! Lin |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: (not-quite-folk) Larry Gatlin song From: Jim Dixon Date: 04 Feb 06 - 10:05 PM FOOL'S BAR AND GRILLE is on Larry Gatlin's album "In My Life," Spring Hill CD #25463, 1998. The best I could do was transcribe this excerpt from a sound sample at Amazon.com: ...life goin' straight to hell, But I thought the whole thing over, and I said, "I believe I will Stop in for just one at the Fool's Bar and Grille." Smoke and mirrors hit me when I walked through the door There was a jukebox in the corner and sawdust on the floor.... |

FOOL'S BAR AND GRILLE Larry Gatlin I was drivin' down the highway, not much on my mind when out of the corner of my eye I saw a little home-made sign I ain't been able to forget it, I don't think I ever will it said "TURN RIGHT HERE - for the Fool's Bar And Grille." I ain't had myself a drink, it's been quite a spell I was dyin' a whole faster back then life goin' straight to hell but I thought the whole thing over and I said I believe I will stop in for just one at the Fool's Bar And Grille Smoke and music hit me when I walked the door there was a jukebox in the corner and sawdust on the floor a lot of smilin' faces on [??] half empty glasses and totally empty eyes so I pulled up a barstool and ordered myself a coke couple of the customers laughed out loud they thought it was a joke I took one sip and I put it down I purty much had my fill of the the good life at the Fool's Bar And Grille paid the man behind the bar and I took one sip more I took one last look around the bar then I headed for the door I said a prayer for the lonely people who are probably sittin there still if not for the grace of God I'd be sittin' there still living and dyin, but mostly dyin' right there at the Fool's Bar And Grille TAG: I was drivin' down the highway..... |

Subject: Lyr Add: FOOL'S BAR AND GRILLE (Larry Gatlin) From: Jeremiah McCaw Date: 13 Feb 06 - 02:04 PM Well, it's been 3 days since I've been able to get on Mudcat - I seem to have a knack for trying when it's down for maintenance or otherwise off-line. Aargh! Gene, many thanks for the 'stab', not to mention subsequent emails, the mp3 and the phone call. I just love what the Mudcat community allows us to achieve! At your suggestion, here's the complete lyrics for any as may be interested. The Gatlin recording, by the way, starts off in F-freaking-sharp, and modulates to G at the 2nd verse. FOOL'S BAR AND GRILLE Larry Gatlin I was drivin' down the highway, not much on my mind When out of the corner of my eye I saw a little home-made sign I ain't been able to forget it, I don't think I ever will It said "Turn right here - for the Fool's Bar and Grille." I ain't had myself a drink, it's been quite a spell I was dyin' a whole faster back then; life goin' straight to hell But I thought the whole thing over and I said I believe I will Stop in for just one at the Fool's Bar and Grille Smoke and music hit me when I walked through the door There was a jukebox in the corner and sawdust on the floor A lot of smilin' faces, all part of the disguise Half empty glasses and totally empty eyes So I pulled up a barstool and ordered myself a coke Couple of the customers laughed out loud - they thought it was a joke. I took one sip and I put it down; I purty much had my fill Of the the good life at the Fool's Bar and Grille Paid the man behind the bar and I took one sip more I took one last look around the bar, then I headed for the door I said a prayer for the lonely people who are probably sittin there still Living and dyin', at the Fool's Bar and Grille If not for the grace of God I'd be sittin' there still Living and dyin, but mostly dyin', right there at the Fool's Bar and Grille TAG: I was drivin' down the highway..... |
