Subject: lookin' for From: Walt Date: 25 Jan 99 - 06:42 PM I've got this old song in my head which has a chorus (?) which goes like this: "You can tell the world about this, you can tell the nation about that, Tell 'em that the new world's been won, Tell 'em that the gospel's begun, He brought joy, joy, joy into my heart". If anyone has any idea of the name of this song or where I could find it, please e-mail Walt at tboyd@smmusd.org |
Subject: RE: lookin' for From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 25 Jan 99 - 07:56 PM Walt, I think this may be a Gibson and Camp song (Bob and Hamilton). I tried to search the DT, but it is not working for me today. I suspect some other Chicago Mudcatters have this song firmly cemented in their heads. Good luck!! Roger in Baltimore

Subject: RE: lookin' for Joy Joy Joy From: Joe Offer Date: 26 Jan 99 - 01:22 PM The recording I remember is on Wednesday Morning 3 AM by Simon and Garfunkel. It's called "You Can Tell the World," by B. Gibson and B. Camp (Bob Gibson & Hamilton Camp, but that's another story). Interestingly, only 4 of the 12 songs on this CD are attributed to Paul Simon. The other 4 albums are almost completely Paul Simon songs. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: lookin' for From: Tim Jaques tjaques@netcom.ca Date: 26 Jan 99 - 07:51 PM Is this the song that Ned Flanders and his kids sing? I think we used to sing it at Sunday school. And if the Devil doesn't like it he can sit on a tack . . . |
Subject: ADD: You Can Tell the World (gibson-camp) From: rich r Date: 26 Jan 99 - 08:31 PM YOU CAN TELL THE WORLD (Gibson & Camp) CH: You can tell the world about this, You can tell the nations about that Tell them what the master has done, Tell them that the gospel has come Tell them that the victory's been won. He brought joy, joy, joy into my heart.
My lord spoke, he spoke so well
My lord spoke, he spoke so well
Jordan River is chilly and wide
My lord spoke to you and me (...and he spoke to me)
I heard him well and I was told (I don't know but I've been told)
Sometimes I hang my head and cry
One of these days and it won't be long This is a great song based on an older spiritual. AS stated above version are on the Simon & Garfunkel "Wednesday Morning 3AM", Chad Mitchell Trio "At the Bitter End", "The Best of the CMT" "The Chad Mitchell Trio Reunion Pt 1" " , Gibson & Camp "At The Gate of Horn" and "At the Gate of Horn Revisited", Bob Gibson "Yes I See". This past fall I heard Peter Paul & Mary open a concert with it. Joe, Actually there are 5 songs written by Simon on the Wed 3 AM recording and a 6th "Benedictus" that they take credit for "adapting and arranging" the famous catchall. The confusion arrises because "He Was My Brother" is listed by Paul Kane, aka Paul Simon. Kind of like "For Bobbi" by H J Deutchendorf. rich r

Subject: RE: lookin' for From: Art Thieme Date: 31 Jan 99 - 12:24 AM I'd be willin' to bet that this song came to the attention of the Chad Mitchell Trio when Jim (Roger) McGuinn (who was the trio's accompanist then) brought it to their attention. McGuinn was a big fan o' Mr. Gibson & Mr. Camp. Art |
Subject: Lyr Add: YOU CAN TELL THE WORLD From: Joe Offer Date: 31 Jan 99 - 06:04 AM These lyrics are from the Kathleen Battle - Jessye Norman "Spirituals in Concert" CD. I guess this is the traditional version. -Joe Offer- YOU CAN TELL THE WORLD CHORUSWell, He took my feet out of the miry clay, yes, He did, And He placed them on the rock to stay, yes, He did. CHORUS Well, you know, my Lord done just what He said, yes, He did, He healed the sick and He raised the dead, yes, He did. CHORUS |
