When I listen to recordings of song circles and the Getaway, I usually can not tell the difference between my own voice and Dani's. (Many of you know we are best buds.)

Pretty neat. If it sounds pretty good I can decide it's me singing. If it sounds pretty bad, I just decide it must be Dani;>) Friendship means having some one else to blame.

JS,

Appropo(s)of your comment, I wondered about that.

I just didn't wonder about it enough to go find a dictionary.

So I googled it, and found several writings where it had been spelled without the s. If enough people spell a word wrong, does that make the spelling right?

The fact that for YEARS the Starship Enterprise was 'Boldly Going' doesnt make a Split Infinitive Good English !

there is a hot debate in Oxford's sleepy spires that has the split infinitive as a non object in the English Language, only Latinate languages - but I only regurgitate what pedants tell me.

:) After being subjected to a 'strapping' by a Teacher at School (they did used to belt us with a Leather belt on our hands, the teacher that day was very determined that I would get these wee words correct resulting in being strapped 24 times, full force, hands swollen like ballons because I just couldn't see the diffrences in to, too, two I got the concept but kept spelling them incorrectly.
I have commited my Life (**BG**) to not really caring how someone spells something if I know what they mean by their spelling of the Word.
Mild Dyslexia was found to my prob...and The Strap , as it was called, well it dun nothin to help my speling..lol

I know what you are saying Janie as I have a friend who I get to sing with now and again and it's harmonies with us. I can never really tell who is singing the harmonies but have no problem hearing the difference in our voices when one of us is carrying the melody. Like yourself I uselly blame the buddy if the Harmony is off..heehee and vice versa. That indeed is what Friendship is about..:>)

Best Wishes to all
Love and Light

If I had known that, and if I had then figured out how to do the little accenty thing over a, I would have then promptly forgotten how I did it. If I'm too dooflous to find a dictionary, I'm certainly too dooflous to learn html. I'll choose for myself how I waste time, thank you very much!

I'm with Mr.Red and not Leadfingers.

It's as difficult to get rid of the 'split infinitives is bad English' error as the 'ostriches bury their head in the sand' mistake.

People were being smartarses when they made the split infinitive point, carrying over a rule from Latin, where it belongs, to English, where it doesn't. They were trying to make English as respectable (in the 18th century) as Latin was.

Present company excepted, it's snobs and the ill-informed who still think it's an error.

And Janie, blaming means not taking one's rightful responsibility (not the same as ALL the responsibility).

Auto.

Or it may be spelled 'dooflous'. I have just decided that either way is proper.

And the split infinitive is not "boldly going", which is not an infinite, but the high mission 'to boldly go'. I don't care what the Latinaters say, I think "To Boldly Go" is a beautiful phrase, whereas "to go boldly" is not.

And you may pronounce it however you like. You have my permission. No matter how you choose to spell it.

If it sounds good it is all rightfully my responsibility. If it sounds bad it is all rightfully Dani's responsibility. Do I make myself clear?

(OK, I'll go get a life now...uhmmm....or maybe not.)

Does one split an infinitive like this?   in/finitive.

Like this? in-finitive,

or like this? in
finitive.

..here to report that I am not in fact Janie, but am just as likely, if not more, to sing off key in any given situation.

Speaking of splitting infinitives reminds me of ending sentences with prepositions (as opposed to propositions, which don't cross my threshold often these days).

... one of my favorite Churchill quotes is attributed to the great man in response to a woman (naturally) who brought to his attention the commission of aforementioned sin (preposition, not proposition). He is reputed to have said, "Madame, that is the kind of criticism up with which I will not put!"

Dani (really and truly)

If friendship means having someone else to blame....

and since Dani up and decided we are not the same person....

I think I can safely say that it is all her fault that I will not wake up tommorrow morning 3 inches taller, 40 lbs. lighter and 13 years younger!

(I get better at this pretzel logic all the time:0)

I heard it was in response to someone criticizing him for ending a sentence with a prepostition; to which his response was, "That is the sort of arrant pedantry up with which I will not put!"

But hey, whatever Churchillism floats your boat, y'know?

Up with which I will not put has entered the English language because of that remark by Winnie, and is often used by politicians with pretentions to statesmanship.
