Now that I've retired, being a bit of a folkie, I'm also in a community choir. I'd already acquired a copy of ANIMATERRA's CD when I saw they had a new CD out. For some strange reason, I thought,"why not pop over the pond & pick up a copy in person" (sometimes we make rash spontaneous decisions without much logic, but there you go) so yes that will happen when I go to ANIMATERRA's concert on Friday May 12 up in Keene NH. And then I saw that there was the HARLEM GOSPEL CHOIR doing a gig on May 6 so I thought, ok, I'll do that too. BUT, then I found Ed Trickett was doing a gig on the same day in Boston, so I'm gonna do that one instead!

I arrive in Boston on Wednesday 26 April & return on Monday 15 May. So in between those dates (& the 2 gigs) I would be interested in meeting up with any 'catters in the NE Seaboard area & share some music & humourous verse.

I'd also be interested to know of any sessions taking place, any (mixed)community choirs(chorus')practices AND any folk/barn dances --Contra, Square, Running Set et al.
Regards Bradfordian

After Boston, Ed Trickett is heading up to Maine for a House Concert. You are welcome. Just PM me. A meal, a bed, good music, good people. He then heads up to Camden, ME, I think, for another concert.

There is always music at the Press Room in Portsmouth. Friday nights and the third Saturday of the month though not Gospel.

Hi Bradfordian,
You may be interested to check out this link:
http://www.ceili.unh.edu/
It is for a local (seacoast New Hampshire) radio show on college radio, which specializes in music of the British Isles. At that link site, you will find a calendar that will certainly help you. Roland Goodbody (the DJ) has posted dances, concerts, sessions, workshops and events, one month at a time, all in the English, Irish and Northeast American traditions.
I notice that he only has March up right now, but he usually does keep two months up at a time. Keep checking back, and you'll surely find something that interests you... if you happen to be in the southern New Hampshire/southern Maine area, that is.
Have a great visit!

Many, many contra and English (Playford style) and international folk dancing opportunities in that region.

- A reference for the northeast and beyond: The Dance Gypsy
- Contra Dancing in Greater Boston. Some of those dances will include squares in an evening.
- Folk Dancing 'Round Boston

Have fun!

Hi Bardfordian
You might want to check out the "Music-For-Robin" site calender. It gives a good listing of venues & happenings within, I think, a 200 mile radius of Boston. Also as time draws near check out the Boston Globe's calender section, very good on folk listings, sessions, concerts, coffehouses & dances.
There's also the Friday evening sessions at the Press Room in Portsmouth, NH.
Barry

Ok guys, back safely in UK & home. I'll report back later, but one thing caught my eye. I picked up The (British) Times & the headline screamed "TOUGH CURBS ON WATER USE AS DROUGHT HITS BRITAIN" A slight hint of irony as I recall the conditions in new England over the weekend! It was well "wet" when I drove on the Interstate into Boston on Sunday afternoon but got to the hotel ok (more or less!).

Well, when I got home, there was a note on the chalk board "do dishwasher & tidy up before dad gets home" They (wife & two kids 23 & 24) missed that one! The grass is reaching jungle proportions & there was a water leak in the tank that holds water for the toilet, been going for a week or more! I thought to myself "Welcome home brad!"

Susan, I met you and Dick (& Joe Offer)two or three year back when you came to Whitby, & if I can get up to Whitby I'll look out for you. The tour worked out extremly well, pulling in the Press Room, the Ed Trickett house concert in Portland c/o Sinsul, two concert visits to Animaterra plus a non-folk liason and a visit to Niagara Falls over three wonderfully sunny and DRY days.
I met and enjoyed the hospitality of several 'catters in Portsmouth, Portland, Keene/Nelson, Copake, Sharon, & Litchfield. You guys know who you are, so I just want to say a great big thank you for briefly sharing your music, your company, your time. It really suprised me just how well I did get on with you guys, 'cos I really am one of these very reserved types, so thanks for making me feel at home and encouraging me. I'm sure I am now feeling much more confident among folks who were one moment strangers, and the next moment friends, and yes I do owe all this to Mudcat, (with some gentle encouragement from Bill/Sables). Talking of whom, wow, its so nice to be greeted with a cup of decent tea. Everywhere I went there was this tin box emblazoned with YORKSHIRE TEA. Well done Bill, what a trail blazer!
I'll be posting some photos in due course, so keep an eye out. I'll also be reporting to the Yorkshire Gathering & hopfully seeing Bill if he's attending.

"I would have invited you to visit", but you DID bbc, and I am sad that it was all too brief a visit. I have this ploy where I try to leave something behind so I have to come back again. Trouble is, folks keep mailing my left behind possessions to me. Doh! Just as well 'cos I might not have needed my leather coat when the temps hit 75F but I sure needed it at the soggy weekend. The forecasters reckon tonight and tomorrow (Wed) is when the Merrymack and its tributeries are going to peak, just when Britains water levels are at there lowestest for manys the year!

Hi, Bradfordian:
It was a pleasure to meet you and to share the meal at the Bull's Bridge Inn with you and bbc. Hope the photo I took of you at the covered bridge turns out okay. Sorry we couldn't get in touch with the Indian Neck folks in time to have you spend an evening there. Maybe on your next visit? We'll look forward to seeing you again.
Ain't retirement grand? I've now been "retired" for fourteen years! At what point, then, does one get to stop working?

It was great having you around both at The Press Room Friday session and then meeting you a week later at the Ed Trickett house concert at Sinsull's (which will never be the same after a couple of your recitations ;-) )

Glad you are safe home and are missing our, uh, water works here in New England. No real damage at our ol' homestead, but with water over bridges and roads washing out, etcet etcet, it does make getting around this neck of the woods way too interesting.

Later! (Dinner calls)

Linn

Barrie, it was great meeting you, attending the gospel workshop, having you at my concerts, and just hanging around, sharing music and recitations. I did find the "left behind" item which will remain in safe keeping until we meet again!

We're still soggy but unflooded in the southwestern part of the state. We had 4 hours of actual sunshine this morning, but the clouds are back, alas!
