From: alison Date: 03 Feb 99 - 06:42 PM Happy to help, As you can see I've been going through A & B and putting tunes to the ones I know that don't already have them. will gradually work my way through the rest, (well that's the plan anyway)............ had a bit of time to myself yesterday...... that's why so many appeared. Subject: RE: Kudos to Alison! From: Philippa Date: 04 Feb 99 - 07:24 AM absolutely! but if the lyrics appear on threads rather than on the DT database, I suggest refreshing the old threads with the tunes rather than starting new threads. That's if you can locate the threads in question on the forum search without too much difficulty; it will depend on whether the title was used in the the subject name or if there's a good key word to use for a search of the message. |

Subject: RE: Kudos to Alison! From: alison Date: 04 Feb 99 - 07:37 AM I reckon as far as tunes are concerned it's easier to do what I have done and start a MUS ADD (insert title here) thread..... easier for Dick and co. to find. Same as it is easier to find lyrics in a LYR ADD(insert title here) thread rather than buried in a long thread possibly not even with the name of the song in the title.(What do you think Dick/Susan/Max etc....?) Often people have put tunes into files which haven't made it into the database as yet...... possibly becaue they were never found.... It would be physically impossible for those in control here to read through every thread to search them out. If it helps I'll add links to the appropriate threads. But yes I agree if someone starts a new thread about a song which has been discussed before I think we usually do a good job of redirecting them to the appropriate threads. slainte alison |

Subject: new music - old thread From: Philippa Date: 05 Feb 99 - 06:32 AM A link to threads when relevent would be helpful - and it would also tell Dick and Susan, etc. that the song was in the forum rather than in the DT database. But I would still prefer to have old threads refreshed. One reason is that if I'm doing a forum search I don't have to then go to a few different threads to get the material and associated commentary. I should think from the technical side that Max also would prefer to have less rather than more threads. I have in mind the fairly short threads, not the ones that have ~50 plus entries and take ages to download - if that's the right term). If you add 'music add' to the thread title in the subject line of your own response, Susan, Dick et. al could still periodically do a "music add" search to find all the new tunes. I don't know whether that's necessary. If the song is already in the DT database, my comments don't apply. If it's not, presumably the team will look through the thread from its beginning through to the last entry before copying lyrics from it (people often make corrections and additions to early lyric offerings in a thread). As you rightly said, we should get the opinions of the people who do the compilation work. But as a Mudcatter user and contributor, I'm giving you my opinion. Meanwhile, do keep supplying tnes, whatever way you do it - thanks! |

Subject: RE: Kudos to Alison! From: alison Date: 05 Feb 99 - 08:12 AM Hi Philippa, At the moment I am going through tunes which are in the database.... not the threads...... if you look I usually do add the tunes to songs which are only in the threads into the same thread..... But sometimes even this way they get left out. The wolfhound is an obvious example.... the words got into the database.. the tune didn't and they are both in the same thread..... (this isn't a complaint guys.... just showing what I mean...... I know you work hard....) If someone asks me for something relating to a specific thread.. it goes into that specific thread... ( check out Spancil Hill and Whisky in the jar for some recent ones)..... slainte alison |
