From: Peace

The post I just had deleted was a thread entitled BS:.

I drew a table which someone has found to be offensive. I called it the periodic table and it looked like this:

.....
.   .
.   .

The thread was no more a waste of space than many here. So, there is the friggin' table again.

Have a nice day.
Over the last weekend, a dozen nonsense threads were started, most (if not all) by anonymous Guests. The thread titles made no sense {e.g., colours, bugger, politics, love, gold, yellow} and most of the beginning messages were blank or were one word. Peace's "thread" had no title other than "BS:." and just a few words and some dots in the opening message. Was it another trollspam thread, or was it an unjust deletion of Peace being cute and adorable and incredibly clever? It looked just like all the others, at first glance. I suppose if the deleted thread was a valuable and generous cultural contribution to Mudcat, then its deletion may have been an unjust misinterpretation.
Whatever the case, I've moved the deleted message to this thread, and you can all see it - just above this message.

Well, I guess it depends on the meaning of the word "tables".

Check this out:

"Tables represent relationships between data. Authors specify these relationships in the document language and specify their presentation in CSS, in two ways: visually and aurally.

Authors may specify the visual formatting of a table as a rectangular grid of cells. Rows and columns of cells may be organized into row groups and column groups. Rows, columns, row groups, row columns, and cells may have borders drawn around them (there are two border models in CSS2). Authors may align data vertically or horizontally within a cell and align data in all cells of a row or column.

Authors may also specify the aural rendering of a table; how headers and data will be spoken. In the document language, authors may label cells and groups of cells so that when rendered aurally, cell headers are spoken before cell data. In effect, this "serializes" the table: users browsing the table aurally hear a sequence of headers followed by data."

-snip-

What??

I don't have a clue what I just read. All I know is that it's some technilogical gooblygook that is waaay beyond me.

The first word I think of when someone says table is "chairs".

Incipe, parve puer: qui non risere parenti, Nec deus hunc mensa, dea nec dignata cabili est.

Begin then, little boy, no one who has not given his mother a smile has ever been thought worthy of his table by a god, or by a goddess of her bed.

It just occurred to me that my "don't even go there" comment sounded kinda bossy, or even-perish the thought!-like censorship.

Sorry, Guest 13 Apr 06 - 08:02 PM. You asked a legitimate question. But I was too interested in adding that play on word example.

My bad.

I'll get up from the table now and go stand in the corner.

Okay, so it's not exactly a 90° corner. It's obtuse, just like this thread. You try doing it better withouth spending half the night on it.

"Inoffensive" ain't enough for some folks, Bert, particularly if the thread is started by one of a small number of members who happen to be on a certain moderator's personal shitlist. That this sort of thing occurs has been mentioned before in numerous contexts and the typical management response usually includes the words "paranoia" or "conspiracy theory".

"It's A Serious Matter" is the signature chant [or cheer] for
Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc., the first African American Greek letter university sorority.

I'm a member of that sorority. I also am a member of this Mudcat community. And all jokes aside, I firmly believe that Bert's 14 Apr 06 - 06:58 PM question "Why was this [thread]deleted the first time?" should be taken seriously. I also very much believe that what Bee-dubya-ell said in his 14 Apr 06 - 09:44 PM post is a serious matter.

I have never been a "my country right or wrong" type of person.
I'm also not a "my online discussion forum right or wrong" type of perrson.

If -as it appears to be the case- any Mudcat moderator has a personal "shit list" and regularly or sometimes deletes the posts or threads of members or guests on that list just because he or she has a beef with those persons on that list, than that is not only serious-it is wrong.

Just wanted to clear a wee thing up about my question to Bee-dubya-ell:)

I don't think that any Folks behind the buttons have a ' personal shitlist on the go. That does seem paranoid...(sorry BDL I borrowed your description.)

I do believe that this place would go down the toilet in a heartbeat if those behind the scenes actually outed the real truth about a few here. I can only imagine what is removed before we see it...gives me goosbumps that one...yuk! "Fess up"....Fess up to what! Why should anyone that helps run the Mudcat be ordered to explain anything!

Of course if certain members were outed for the shit they pull on people around this place most 'members' would ignore the shit pulled and complain that the poor wee victims were outed! It's a lose, lose situation. Twisted even.

There are Members however that definetly have a shitlist and actively exchange who is a top of 'said' list in PMs to their buds on whoever is the target for today or who is to be ignored or who is whatever.or what they know that no-one else knows.. That is a FACT . It is so obvious just who are the members of the wee inner circles, it's like spotting a Rhino in daisy patch!

It was said on another Thread, this is just a section in a Music forum. This section used to be a less serious section to come to and enjoy the 'Patter and have a wee blether' (Scottish terms for chat) on non Music related topics.
Now it's like coming into a bad Social History/Political Class or even worse it is a tippy toe enviroment were one is forced to rethink every bloody word they type.
Nonesense. How and when did that shit come about. Fess up to that and you will have my attention.

Actually the Music section is much, much more fun lately and has, as it always has been, a place to learn about the good stuff.

So...anyways. BDL please forget I asked my question, really. It is none of my business and I should have Pmd you anyway instead of putting you on the spot. I apologize for that and for causing the drifting from topic on this Thread.

I find it impossible to take myself and a BS section on a Forum so seriously. There as so many things in my LIFE that are serious, from the area of work I do, to personal things in General, that I cannot begin to think of a Website getting that kind of energy input from me. Damn, no way.

No I don't think ANYONE who moderates has a shitlist here. That's just my opinion however. I do sincerly hope that those that moniter this place have a list of shit stirrers and weirdos! I bet there are some members, however, who really would love to believe that moderators here spend their daily time just hatching wee nasty personal vendettas..lol...(actually that is not funny that people would want that so bad when I really think about it...in fact that is just plain sad ( in the true sense of the word )

If I have made any grammatical errors in my post...too bad..bite me.
Dyslexia rules at this time of my day.
Woke up thinking about this and really don't want it in my head for any longer than it has taken to write this post. Off to do something else..like make Coffee. Maybe Skarpi has the right idea.

Have a grand Saturday Folks.

Hope that a lighter Fare returns to the BS TABLE at some point down the road or not. Whatever. In fact I couldn't give a rat's arse if Max decides to dump this section altogether.

Here's the rub... you know that Thread that got deleted... well I am just about to post to it! FFS

I assume that "bad" here means "good".

If so, I'd say some of the time, yes and other times no.

Btw, how you gonna start a thread and then get up from the table
and leave the thread to go it's merry or un-merry way?

What's up with that??

Anyway, I'm glad your back.

What??!!!

Stables???! Stables???!!!

You mean we talked all about tables for nothin?

All along you wanted to talk about "stables".

Aren't stables barns with hay and pitchforks and stalls where horses live?

I'm a city girl. We don't have no stables around here. I can't say nothin 'bout no stables.

Aint that a cryin shame. Here I was gettin all geeked up to talk about poker tables and ping pong tables and tables made out of milk crates and tables made out of wood but with glass on top and of course I could have talked about kitchen tables but that they have their own Mudcat discussion thread so I don't need to go there, But I could have talked about all the stuff people put on tables like in the middle you know as decoration and then I planned to talk about the junk drawers in end tables and then there's those long work tables and all kinds of other tables that I'm sure not just me but other people were fixin to bring up. But no Bruce you had to come and change the subject on us.

I hope you know what trauma this change of subject will cause all the table lovers of the world.

I guess I'm gonna go off somewhere and cry.

See you later.

The following is a fable about a guy named Abel and his mother, Mabel.

Abel and Mabel had a table made from an old spool that used to hold cable.

Abel and Mabel kept their cable table in their stable.

Abel and Mabel's stable was very nice, with a lovely stained-glass window in the northern gable.

Having no horses, Abel and Mabel used their stable for raising ermine, mink and sable.

That's the end of the fable since finding more words that rhyme I am unable.

You did a heck of a job, Bee-dubya-ell.

Really. Your Abel and Mable fable is GREAT!!!

But are you able to say what is the label that Abel and Mable use for the ermine, mink and sable that they raise in their stable that has a lovely stained-glass window in the northern gable and that also has a table made from an old spool that used to hold cable?

Inquiring minds wanna no.

You're right Azizzi. I forgot to mention that Mabel would sew a silk label into the coats Abel made from the furs of the ermine, mink, and sable, which he skinned upon the table made from a spool that once held cable, right there in the stable under the multi-colored light from that northern gable. It was all a pretty gruesome process.

Oh.

I heard that Abel sewed that labels on the coats made from the fur of the ermine, mink, and sable that Mabel skinned upon the table made from a spool that once held cable that was placed in the stable under the multi-colored light from that northern gable.

And yes,
I can imagine that it was a pretty gruesome process but the coats sell well to the Paris mobs, and the unwashed rable in this world that's become a veritable Tower of Babel.

But you usually don't find a retable in a stable where Mable sews labels in the coats made from sables that Able skins on the cable-spool table, enabled by the light from the northern gable.

There once was a women called Maybell,
who had a most wonderful table.
She delighted to dabble
With the hoons and the rabble
And started her own culinary cabel.

She invited the masses to dinner,
And served Maybell's syrup – a winner
The ragged and torn
Ate pancakes til dawn
While Maybell got thinner and thinner,

Now remember as you read this small fable
That whatever you have at your table
It ain't worth a hoot
If you don't share your fruit
With the cabel at Maybell's old table.

Well, okay, I guess that in a fable you can have a retable in a stable. Usually a retable is a screen behind the altar in a church; I never heard of it before either, but it was the only word left in my rhymning dictionary that you hadn't already used up.

I just checked. It's Betty Davis who had the eyes.

Bette Davis Eyes

Her hair is Harlow gold, her lips sweet surprise
Her hands are never cold, she's got Better Davis eyes

She'll turn the music on you, you won't have to think twice
She's pure as New York snow, she got Bette Davis eyes

And she'll tease you, she'll unease you
All the better just to please you
She's precocious, and she knows just
What it takes to make a pro blush
She got Greta Garbo's standoff sighs, she's got Bette Davis eyes

She'll let you take her home, it works her appetite
She'll lay you on the throne, she got Bette Davis eyes

She'll take a tumble on you, roll you like you were dice
Until you come out blue, she's got Bette Davis eyes

She'll expose you, when she snows you
Hope you're pleased with the crumbs she throws you
She's ferocious and she knows just
What it takes to make a pro blush
All the boys think she's a spy, she's got Bette Davis eyes

And she'll tease you, she'll unease you
All the better just to please you
She's precocious, and she knows just
What it takes to make a pro blush
All the boys think she's a spy, she's got Bette Davis eyes...

Of course, this doesn't have anything to do with "stable" or "table" or grable or Mabel or any other able bodied rhyming word...But it is a song and it's sung by folks and this is a folk music website {okay a blues/folk music website though there's not much blues to be found most times} and this is a thread drift thread and this certainly counts as thread drift so at least I got the Betty/eyes association right.

Okay okay I goofed.

I'm may be down but I'm not out.

I shall return.

thanks Azizi - i think it was her legs they were on about.

my daughter is still keeping her eye on an ad for my table + 6 chairs in ebay - its a big family table and I need to sell it (tribe has moved on)- not only do I need the space for a smaller table, but I need the money. This table is a BIG thing for me right now. my daughter (the one in Austria) has bought me a return ticket to visit her in 2 weeks. I'll be in souther Austria for a month, + am hoping to sell the table so I can get to London for a couple of days to see Hilda Hish's show, and see some catters. I will buy a bottle of Maybell's syrup to celebrate if it sells!

fingers crossed

I suppose we should be grateful this thread wasn't entitled "Well, it's really about chairs . . . .", what with there being about a zillion times more words that rhyme with "chair" than "table". It would take us months to share a fair number of them and would invariably cause some of us to tear their hair in despair.

The antelope family too has a sable
It will bound away or it will stand and fight
Depending on its mood but trust me, the label
Of 'fierce' fits it any time of day or night.

Its horns are tall and they are ringed and ridged
Its maned coat is glossy and black and handsome
Bucks pursue the does- if they be not frigid.
Packaged energy, Bucks gallop fast and prance some.

Sheeesh.

Poopsie's table doesn't look like a table to me--it looks like an easel.
I sometimes wish I could make interesting drawings with a 'puter keyboard--but it never looks like I intend it to.
Course, I have the same trouble with using pencils, pens, crayons, & such. I have to admit, crayons would be my medium of choice were I to attempt to be an Art artiste. The big 64 pack!

Kaleea will now attempt to do an interpretive dance with her 'puter keyboard:
