Subject: BS: Mudcat - Profit (or Loss)? From: voyager Date: 19 May 06 - 05:59 PM After watching the thread - Max's State of the Union grow to over 500 responses (that BIG in Mudcat terms) I found myself asking the simple question - What's our Financial Model Non-Profit Not For Profit Profit (or Loss)? Generous Tax-Deductible Unregistered Charity Personal Entrepreneurial Model Other Simply put - Let's add a Subscription Service/Charge Card/PayPal-like Credit Card front end to this CYBER MUSIC FORUM and make it a pay-as-you-like enterprise. Do any of us KNOW (or CARE) about the FINANCES behind running this Forum? Don't know how many MudCatters ever encounter THE HUMAN JUKEBOX GRIMES POTZNIKOFF GHIRADELLI SQUARE SF, CA. The man just to play on demand (a Trumpet Melody line) from inside a CardBoard Refrigerator carton. 25 cents got you a tune. So let's GROW UP (Financially Speaking) and MOVE BEYOND the hapless SPARE CHANGE FUND DRIVE SOLICITATION model. This FORUM deserves better than that. Flames Off voyager 'A Yearly Subscriber' |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat - Profit (or Loss)? From: Bobert Date: 19 May 06 - 06:34 PM Well, I kinda like the idea of nominal yearly dues but I also have been curious as to the "finances" of Mudcat... I haven't been real deligent 'bout sending $$$ in the past... Maybe $50 over the last 5 years but if I knew how much it took to run the joint and it was comin' up short I would give more... |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat - Profit (or Loss)? From: catspaw49 Date: 19 May 06 - 06:52 PM Over the years we have talked about this a lot. THIS THREAD is the latest and asks for ideas which it gets as you can see. Read Max's response in that thread. He has never wanted to do much beyond the emergency "Hey Rube" type of thing. I'd like to form a US version of the UK "Friends of Mudcat" and there are other excellent ideas, such as the the one SRS suggests which require a bit more from Max. He's had a lot of that from us before on incorporation and such but doesn't seem to want to go that route. As far as accounting goes, Max has some figures based on recent stuff and I think they are in that thread at the beginning as well. Spaw |
