A snow blower a borrowed lawn mower and a new Great Grand Daughter.It doesn't get any better than that.

Last December, heading into a series of monumental snow storms, my wife Ruth bought me a snowblower for my birthday, and my back appreciated it. It was one of the best birthday presents I ever received.

Two days ago, we returned from Wisconsin where we celebrated my Mother's 99th birthday. The whole nine days we were gone it rained. We got over a foot of rain and even though my power mower was in a shed, there was so much moisture in the air that I couldn't get the lawn mower going. After two weeks of heavy rain, the grass was almost knee high. I spent the last two days trying to get my lawn mower going with no luck, but today my neighbor George let me use his. I hacked my way through the jungle, and Ruth raked up all the slaughtered grass. It felt mighty good to have our lawn looking good again.

And then we found out that early this morning, our Grandson's wife on Ruth's side gave birth to a baby girl .. who now shares my birthday.

A snowblower, a borrowed lawn mower and a new great Grand Daughter. It doesn't get any better than that.

Hi, Karen: Best thing about today is that yesterday was just as good, and I expect tomorrow will be too (if not better.)

Today I:

   Had breakfast with my wife
   Went for a riverwalk with my wife
   Worked in the yard with my wife
   Went out to dinner with my wife (her treat)
   Watched an episode of Frasier with my wife
   In a few minutes I'll go to bed with my wife

Sounds like every day... except for the birthday dinner treat.

Tomorrow night I'll take her out to dinner.

The true measure of a life is how good the ordinary days are.
