I wonder why the Clinton administration did not use our fears to increase it's power and control over society over the Al Qaueda threat?

The dumb ass ignored it and it became a bigger threat which could not be ignored after 9/11.

Yes there are threats and we have a government to deal with those threats: "To provide for the common defense"

I am not persuaded by movies. They are for entertainment, not to be used for a moral compass.

I am sure there were similar charges agout the government and the military using Communism as a fear tactic to heard the masses. That genuine threat went away and things were great for a while.

Yes, there is a grave threat from terrorisim and I don't need the government to bring it to my attention.

Do you watch the cartoons shown on childrens TV in Iran and other muslim countires? It glorifies the killing of Jews and Martyrdom.

In that way the governments in those countries create a haterd of jews and then use that hatred to control society.

If you watch that stuff you will turn into a terrorist.

The military industrial complex needs work. They had it as long as the Soviet Union endured. When the Soviet Union collapsed, they had to find or invent new enemies fast...or lose a hell of a lot of money. Naturally, given that situation, they found and invented new enemies...small enemies...almost powerless enemies...enemies who where no real threat to Amerika...but enemies who would provide endless new opportunities to build armaments, kill people, and blow up things real good.

Presto! Milosevich, Saddam and Al Queda. Clinton was in on it too, by the way. His administration was very much involved in promoting war and bloodshed around the world, but his part of the schedule didn't involve Al Queda too heavily, that's all. His main event was in the Balkans.

It's 99% lies and manipulation, and its purpose is to keep society on a war footing forever, if at all possible, because that is profitable for certain interests. If you want a war that lasts forever, you just invent an enemy that has no borderlines and can't be found. Presto! Al Queda.

To summarize it all .... create a 'boogey man' to unify the populace, keep them in order ... make the citizenry demand that the government be strong ... and they will be willing to sacrifice all their freedoms to have this strong, powerful government protect us ... protect us from that boogey man lurking beneath the bed.

Yes, and they will revile you as a "peacenik", an "appeaser", or even a traitor if you point it out. Study the history of Nazi Germany for really good pointers on how that works.

Amerika has not one enemy in the world right now which Amerika did not itself create....and not one enemy who is more than a helpless, totally outgunned punching bag of a target either. That's what's so shameful about it on the part of the US administration (not the people). It's cowardice, masquerading as patriotism.

Al-Qaeda is the best 'boogey man' created in modern history .... you just don't quite know who they are, where they are, they have no borders, you never know just what they are up to.

So keep your guard LH ... just remember .. the next time you go to your corner store, that mid-eastern guy behind the counter might be one of 'them', the next time you take a taxi in Toronto, the driver just might be one of 'them'

If you haven't y'all should watch the documentary. I don't agree with all of the conclusions and they paint the situation as being a little less gray than it is. But it does point out some interesting history.
Donald Rumsfeld in the 1970s telling the same sorts of lies about the russians as he told about Al Qaeda / Saddam a few years ago is the most revealing part.
