G-26 is from a song written by a man (who passed away earlier this year or thereabouts). The song is in the DT, I believe. (Ha! That should narrow it down, eh?)
Ron, you've got the right song in mind.
Here's another line from the same song:

"I love you, but your needs are a very different issue." And he cried, and _____ handed him a tissue."

G-25 is, indeed "Harry Pollitt" (as sung by The Limeliters)

ChazKratz, yes, the guinea pig line is from the song that starts ""Birds do it, bees do it, even educated fleas do it, let's do it, let's fall in love." But the title is "Let's Do It (Let's Fall In Love)" /Cole Porter - not to be confused with
"Let's Fall In Love" , a different hit song by Cole Porter, that starts, "Let's Fall In Love, Why shouldn't we fall in love?"

Finally--couldn't remember the woman's name--but I knew it was the title.

Finally I remembered: "Erica".

G 26--Ballad of Erica Levine

Written by a guy?--never would have guessed. I have to say I don't know anything about Bob Blue. What else has he done?

"Their Way"--the academic nightmare song? " I did it their way"? That one? Definitely a classic. Somehow I thought Michael Cooney had written it.

Chazkratz, I hate ta admit it, but I believe you're right; I misheard it, and I guess my paraphrase would have been, "I was, foolishly, looking in bottles for something worthwhile"; but "something unfoolish to say" does have that Kristofferson kink in it.

Bob Blue died just a few months ago. Among his other accomplishments he had a series of house concerts at his home in Amherst, Mass.

Close, but that line is from a song on an album by a Mudcat favorite, his only record to win a Grammy, it was issued after his death and was motly material he did not want released.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One more try?

6'    "Talk about your plenty, talk about your ills,
       One man gathers what another man spills."

               hint 1: likely known mostly by their faithful fans    hint 2: group played 3500+ live concerts

8'   "It's what you look like
       and not what you are"

9'    "These are just some sorry kids
       ... they ain't the ones"

10'   "You would stand to gain and I to lose"

11'   "She's a gal with a portable past"

12'   "I think we'd be better off
         ta just run her off this place"

These can't really be that hard. Some of the artists are Jackson Browne, Robert Earl Keen, Jethro Tull and The Grateful Dead!

It's an old sea shanty

I made a misteak it was goin' chuff chuff not went chuff chuff chuff.

The line has probably made it's way inot a lot of tunes.

Hogeye Man--
"Sally's in the garden, shellin' peas;
Her long golden hair hangin' down to her knees.

(With a hogeye;
Railroad navvy with a hogeye.
Row ashore with a hogeye, oh,
She wants a hogeye man.)

"Sally's in the kitchen, makin' duff;
The cheeks of her arse goin' chuff, chuff, chuff."

Alison is right:

If he cracked a joke Then you chortled for days

A pharoah story - Joseph & the amazing technicolour dreamcoat written in 1968 by Webber and Rice at St Paul's Junior School

Nobody's guessed these two yet, so I'll ad a bit more by way of hints.

G-28 "She picked him up all in her arms and carried him to the town
And sent for a physician, who quickly healed his wounds."

(From one of the earlier albums -- 1960s or early '70s -- by a well-known folk 'diva'.)

G-29 "The fairest lass of Saginaw let tears of anguish flow,
But her moans and cries could not awake her true love, young ______."

(This song is cited in the "Songs About Rivers" thread.)

And these also remain unguessed so far:

G-16 "This earth is just rehearsal for when I'm heaven bound."
(Written and recorded by one of our own most beloved Mudcatters - and a song with poignant personal significance.)

G-17 " Well I never will believe what another woman says, let her be white, yeller, dark or brown,
Unless she is on some high gallows tree and a-sayin that she wants to come down. "
(Trad, I believe, and recorded by one of our most famous Mudcatters.)

G-18 "When we sing, a spark within us wakes & is fanned into a flame.
To those who hear our spirit's voice, it calls in them the same"
(Written and recorded by one of our prolific Mudcatter songwriters.)

G-20 "I got three hot kitties begging, pretty pretty,
Just to go out on the town at night.
...
Sometimes I turn-a my back & they slip through a crack,
And those down town pussies get more than I do!"
(Written and recorded by one of our other prolific Mudcatter (male) songwriters, FOR another (female) Mudcatter -- as part of an auction, I think.)

Hint: These particular Mudcatter-spawned songs all have something additional in common.   The prize money doubles for whoever can figure out what that common bond is. §;-D

====================================================
Non-Mudcatter songs:

G-6 "We'll have to walk down where the fields are overgrown.
Consumption's claimed his life and we dare not miss the sight ... "
(Hint: The singer I learned it from is now married to the songwriter.)

G-8 "Oh, it's fine to pass away, but when people start to pay,
That's no time for a businessman to die!" (Hint: lesser-known song from a very well-known US songwriter. One of his earlier compositions after immigrating to the US and breaking onto the music scene of Tin Pan Alley.)

But I wound up here.
I just have to look good,
I don't have to be clear.

There's a black-winged gull with a broken back

Out on the road today I saw a DEADHEAD sticker

RedHorse, I don't doubt that verse and variations thereon appear in a whole slew of folk songs.   I found the line in a recording by Kytrad (aka Jean Ritchie) and included on one of our own Mudcat CD Samplers,
