Subject: RE: BS: Plane crash in New York City 11/11/06 From: Amos Date: 11 Oct 06 - 03:16 PM (CBS/AP) A small aircraft has hit an apartment building in New York, police said. The building is described as a high-rise on Manhattan's upper east side, on 72nd street and York avenue. There's no word yet on any deaths or injuries. There are conflicting reports on whether the aircraft was a small plane or a helicopter. The Federal Aviation Administration only confirms that a "small plane" has crashed into a 22-story apartment building on East 72nd Street. They have not confirmed reports that it was a helicopter, reports CBS News correspondent Bob Orr. Video from the scene shows the building fully engulfed in flames. A column of gray smoke rose over the city, and raging flames could be seen in four windows on two upper floors. Meanwhile, New York Fire Department spokeswoman Emily Rahimi said an aircraft struck the 20th floor of a building on East 72nd Street. Witnesses said the crash caused a loud noise, and burning and falling debris was seen. Flames were seen shooting out of the windows. It was not immediately known if the incident was an act of terrorism. |

Subject: RE: BS: Plane crash in New York City 10/11/06 From: InOBU Date: 11 Oct 06 - 03:46 PM The fire department have the fire contained already... the aircraft did not get deeply into the building, and the fire is now reported as routine... looks like not a lot of worry, as to the lower east side being a tinderbox, not really the case, and the building is upper east side anyway... all the best peace lor |

Subject: RE: BS: Plane crash in New York City 10/11/06 From: InOBU Date: 11 Oct 06 - 03:59 PM Most of the buildings here are brick, and fires seldom pass from building to building here, on occation in the seventies and eighties, acts of arson to clear squats would involve several buildings, but, the fact that there is quick responce from fire fighters, and no wooden structures, the LES hasn't had block wide fires such as have been seen in Philly. Do come back and visit! Cheers lor |
