Back in the '80s Tom played at my open mike at Grant's Tomb in DC. Many of the DC catters were there. He was in town for a concert and staying with Helen Schneyer. Helen brought him to the club.
The club only held about 80 people, but we had been filling it every week for the 'traditional folk music' show. The performers included the Boarding Party, Jeff Dietchman, TJ O'Malley, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Reuban Musgrave, Dave Olive, Bruce Hutton and many more.
So in view of our success, on this night the owner had given my co-host Charlie Bryant and I a fifth of Peppermint Schnopps.
As you can imagine we took full advantage of that, and when it came time to introduce Tom, my mind, seldom clear on the best of days, was somewhat clouded. Hence this introduction:

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I'd like to introduce the internationally known folksinger, founding member of the New Lost City Ramblers,
TOM PAISLEY!"

Can some one tell me if Tom Paley, founder of the New lost City Ramblers, is the same Tom Paley that has a son called Ben who plays rather excellent fiddle and hangs out in Brighton?
